  1. The Brewers would be completely insane to trade Arcia, short of receiving a Sano type player, but... I guess you never know.
  2. Has absolutely nothing to do with this, but isn't hot stove season in the winter?
  3. Definitely: Orlando Arcia, Jorge Lopez Probably: Michael Reed, Damien Magnifico Maybe: Nick Ramirez, Victor Roache, Jorge Ortega, Austin Ross I'd be surprised: Wei-Chung Wang, Brooks Hall, Chris McFarland, Brent Suter, Adam Weisenburger I wouldn't be surprised: Jacob Barnes, Angel Ventura, Taylor Brennan
  4. I really like Houle as well. He has (or at least had, before injury) an absolute cannon for an arm behind the dish, and has a good idea at the plate with some pop. If he gets back to Wisconsin next year, he'll be right about average age for the Midwest League.
  5. Kaprielian has signed (per my MLB Trade Rumors feed), and I think I remember reading some reference to an Allard deal being done too.
  6. Have to think Jaye Chapman will get called up if the Brewers trade relievers. Maybe Pena, too.
  7. There was someone who knew about the trade where we acquired Grienke.
  8. Beloit? He's getting traded to the Twins obviously. Obviously, since Beloit is an affiliate of the A's.
  9. Looking at it some more, it seems that LHBs who play everyday face LHPs closer to 30-35% of the time. Interesting.
  10. By my very quick count, of the 97 starting pitchers who currently qualify for ERA leaderboards, 23 are lefties. Not going to count relievers, but managers are so fond of bringing in LHP to face LHB late in the game, I wouldn't discount Gennett's inability to hit lefties so much. Edit: Actually, just looking at guys who play everyday regardless of what hand the opposing pitcher throws with, it seems that LHPs account for just about 25% of all ABs.
  11. Helena wins despite allowing 20 base runners and only striking out one opposing batter.
  12. How did Orimoloye last until the 4th round? Brewers would not have been crazy at all to draft him instead of Kirby in the comp round. Maybe he and the Brewers worked out a predraft deal? Anyway, another 15 base runners for the Baby Brewers tonight. And another four hits for Monte Harrison today. I get the feeling that if the Brewers actually manage to bring in a couple good prospects before the deadline, they could have a top 15 farm system in the near future. Maybe top 10 after next year's draft.
  13. I don't think you're a geek until you're checking the DSL box score every evening to see if Ignacio Otano is finally playing again. Free Yerison Pena! But yeah, I really look forward to seeing what these guys do every night. Guessing that Lara and Clark will be pushed along faster than the other three, but hopefully they do all end up on the same team down the road again. At the very least, looks like we'll see an Wisconsin outfield of Stokes-Harrison-Clark next year, and maybe even Gatewood and Lara playing side by side on the left of the infield.
  14. Probably Schafer in center, though it might be an opportunity to see if one or more of Segura, Sardinas, or Rivera could play center.
  15. Besides the aforementioned players that got us to the playoffs twice in four years, Jeremy Jeffress and Taylor Jungmann are both literally on the team. Right now.
  16. Besides the fact that Lucroy never said that all of our first rounders since Braun have been busts, the only terrible first round the team had was in 2009. None of those three guys were reaches at the time, but something broke down in their development. Jeffress hasn't reached his full potential, but he's a valuable contributor at the MLB level. Not a bust. LaPorta was a bust to Cleveland, but worth a pretty decent chunk of CC Sabathia to the Brewers. CC Sabathia was not a bust. Same story with Lawrie and Odorizzi. Both players had a direct impact on getting the Brewers deep into the 2011 postseason, in the form of Marcum and Grienke. And both players are not busts for their current organizations anyway. Odorizzi is one of the better young pitchers in the game. He's about as far away from being a bust as is possible. Frederickson was a terrible reach of a pick. I don't think it's fair to fault the Brewers for what happened with Covey. I'm not shy about throwing stones at Nichols and Seid, but they had no way of knowing about his medical condition. Jungmann is in our rotation - saying he is a bust is ridiculous. I still have hope for Bradley as well, though he'll probably be closer to where Jeffress ended up, as opposed to Odorizzi, if he makes it. You have made it clear over and over again that you don't like Melvin - we get it. I'm just going to suggest that if you seriously think that Jake Odorizzi is a bust because Melvin was the GM when he was drafted, you might want to back away from the myopia.
  17. He'll go relatively close to slot, and I don't think he'll have a great impact on the Brewers' few remaining potential signings. There might even already be an agreement in place. Again, not too much of a rush because he'll pitch little if at all the rest of the year. I'll be worried if he's not signed by the 15th.
  18. He's going to be added to the 40-man roster this offseason, but I don't see a compelling reason to call him up this year and start his service clock. Even if they trade Segura, I'd rather see what Rivera has to offer first.
  19. Was just contemplating the Timber Rattlers' struggles this year and their potential roster for next year... depending on how things shake out, it could be the most prospect-laden offensive team that the Brewers have had since I've been following them. C: Houle 1B: Denson 2B: Neuhaus SS/3B: Gatewood 3B/SS: Lara OF: Stokes OF: Harrison OF: Clark A pitching staff potentially headed by Kirby, Ponce, and Diplan is pretty exciting too. The rest of the pitching staff might be another story, and the system is looking like it might have gaping talent holes in Brevard (with the possible exception of the rotation) and Biloxi (with the possible exception of a Coulter/Taylor/Roache outfield) next year, but that Rattlers lineup is definitely something to dream on.
  20. They may or may not have, but in any case it would be even more foolish of them not to try to get the most public money possible, which is what they are doing. Again, I have to believe they have contingency plans A, B, C, D, E, F, G, and H, and had it all mapped out before agreeing to purchase the team. I don't get the impression that Lasry, Edens and Dinan are the type of businessmen to fly by the seats of their pants in this sort of thing.
  21. The Brewers may be taking a close look at his physical, and he's not going to pitch much the rest of the year anyway.
  22. Except for that if they fail to build an arena, the NBA buys the team. Might be a small profit involved, but the owners won't be moving the team, the league will. Would make more sense financially for them to get the thing built and have their capital appreciate over the long term. And that's why I have to think this gets done, someway somehow. These guys never would have bought the team if they didn't have full confidence that they'd get an arena built.
  23. I'm thinking they may start winding Medeiros down and start giving him an inning or two here and there. He's already pitched more than he ever has before and I would be surprised if the Brewers let him get to 100 innings, and he may not even get to 90.
  24. Bayley and NBeXT are both injured at the moment, so if they were going to be called up, they aren't now. My guess would be Charlotte and Sasha come up after Summer Slam. Who else is waking up at 4:30 in the morning on Saturday to watch The Beast in the East? Owens vs. Balor in Japan is going to be epic. Also, the videos they've put together for Balor the past three weeks are mind-blowingly well done. Go extremely far out of your way to see them if you haven't already.
  25. The Brewers could see some upside in this - if they end up spending $600k or so, they could trade the remaining $1.8M in bonus pool money to the Cubs. No idea what the return would be (probably worse than just spending the $1.8M), but better than nothing.
