  1. The new Baseball America "expert draft" is up (link for subscribers). Important to note that this mock draft isn't who they think teams will pick, it is who they would pick if they ran the teams. They have the Brewers taking Guerrieri at 12 and Gray at 15. Lindor and Baez had already been taken by the 12th pick.
  2. Speaking of Baez, I wrote about him yesterday at Disciples of Uecker. If he's there at 12 (and assuming Lindor is not), I bet they'll take him. Edit: In other words, I think the odds that they get either Baez or Lindor are relatively high. Outside, extremely unlikely possibility that they get both.
  3. I don't like creatine, but I'm not trying to add a bunch of muscle/water weight. And I'm not an expert. I use Optimum Nutrition Pro Complex for protein. I like that is has a number of different kinds of protein that release at different intervals. Post-workout, I use 2:1:1 Recovery. Really impressed by how well it works. I wouldn't buy either of those from the manufacturer's website, or at a GNC, though. Online discounters (like Amazon) usually have much better deals. I'm down a little more than 40 pounds this year, and for the first time in my life, I can do pull-ups. I have the tall-person problem (I'm ~6'6) mentioned earlier, but now I can do 8-10 of them. I'm also up to 10 miles for running and I plan on doing my first marathon next summer.
  4. Went to Rainbow Foods today. Checked out in the Express 15-Item Or Less lane. I had 14 items. Was scolded by the cashier for having so many items, told that "We like to keep it closer to 10." Nice knowing you, that store.
  5. The Brewers gave then 16-year-old Milton Gomez $350,000 last July and the right handed pitcher made his debut tonight for the DSL team to good results. The now 17-year-old went: 6 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 7 K. All non-K outs were recorded via ground out or line out. He features a low 90's fastball with big velocity upside, a curve that's already decent and could be a plus pitch someday, and a changeup that isn't anything yet. Edit: Blog entry about it.
  6. Going by FanGraphs UBR, Fielder has been the worst baserunner in baseball since the beginning of the '07 season.
  7. Not really a transaction yet, but RHP Jeffrey Saba is one of the young Latin American players who will make his stateside debut this summer.
  8. Part of his problem is that he looks awkward out there. He's not a natural defender anywhere. But he makes almost all of the standard plays now.
  9. If there's an extra line for the runner, the catcher not only has a choice about whether or not to block the plate, he has the ability to protect himself from baseunners flying shoulder-first into fair territory to hit them in the face. Or, at least to get an automatic out in that situation. I agree it might just be a focus on rules is called for, but you may as well give the umpires a visual aid.
  10. I don't think he's as bad as people make him out to be. He's certainly improved from a few years ago. I think he's to the point where his athletic ability has really made his marginal improvements on ball reads that much better. I wouldn't call him even average, but he's not the total hack that he was.
  11. Similar to the Lucroy defense poll, I just want to know how well you think Ryan Braun has performed this year running the bases. The rating should be all inclusive of stolen base tries, advancing on ground balls, fly balls, etc. Important note: The rating should also include the effect Ed Sedar has had on Braun's baserunning. If you feel Braun has run into any needless outs at home as a result of Sedar's coaching, I want you to factor that negatively into your rating. Thanks! Once again, 10 for Rickey Henderson baserunning, 1 for... Prince Fielder baserunning.
  12. The Brewers play 20 in a row from June 3rd-22nd. That's a tough stretch. June will be a potentially much bigger grind than May should have been. I'd be happy with 14-13, though if they can carry their current momentum into Florida, 15-16 wins is possible.
  13. He also said that Ross looks like a "relief [prospect] at best."
  14. The Brewers won this game like the Twins usually win a game when they're going well. That makes me feel dirty. I need a de-Twinsing bath. Don't get me wrong, I'll still take the W.
  15. I turned on the game for the first time today with a runner at first and one down in the top of the 8th, Brewers still up 2-0. Sorry about that, guys. I'm doing something else now.
  16. The catcher is still going to block the plate, so how does this help? Gives the catcher a chance to not have to block the plate, and if they aren't blocking, the runner can't touch them. Seems pretty clear. There is a defined area for the baserunner, they have to be able to touch the base, so that defines where they can be when coming into home. Maybe technically defined, but extremely vague in practice. Maybe we should just make it always a force out at home? I think that's a bad idea.
  17. Then make it 30 feet from home. Or 20 feet. The point is, if there's a defined area where the baserunner is supposed to be and where the catcher is supposed to be, it would make things go more smoothly at home plate. I'm not against contact, but the current situation seems closer to chaos.
  18. Not well, but it would be more relevant to the play call at home, so I think the umps would be more likely to pay attention to it. I suppose MLB could also threaten instant replay on those calls, similar to the two feet inbounds calls in the NFL.
  19. I thought the Brewers' TV crew did a fine job of breaking down where the catcher should be if he wants to avoid contact. I'm all for Schroeder's idea of putting the 45-foot foul territory box that they have on the first base line on the second half of the third base line. Runner steps out of it, he's out. Catcher goes into it, either the runner is safe or the runner has carte blanche to do what he wants to the catcher within the basepath.I can dig that. I don't think Posey was really blocking the plate much, if at all, but as has been mentioned a few times - what in the world was he doing on his knees?
  20. 3 year/$30ish million dollar extensions seems to be popular with pitchers around Marcum's age to slightly older. I could be convinced that a 3 year/$35M deal wouldn't be a terrible idea, especially if next year was year 1 of that deal.
