  1. Exactly - would you rather have the players the Brewers gave up for Yelich and a better-ranked farm system, or Yelich? I mean... The thing about these prospect rankings is they ignore the young talent in the big leagues that's no longer eligible for the lists. So yes, the Brewers' system wasn't where it was a few years ago, but they have Yelich, Moustakas (arguably), Woodruff, Peralta, Houser, Hiura, Hader, and Burnes to show for it.
  2. If Attanasio is furious, it's because the Brewers are 54-50 and they can't figure out their own pitching. I don't think he looks at Baseball America farm system rankings, or if he does I can't believe it holds enough weight with him to make him physically angry. FanGraphs has the Brewers at 28 after Hiura graduated: https://www.fangraphs.com/prospects/the-board/2019-in-season-prospect-list?sort=-1,1&type=100 - there's not a ton of difference really between the bottom 8 or 9 teams there.
  3. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes *** Box: Cedar Rapids 4, Wisconsin 3 Kernels Pop Past Rattlers 4-3 By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Two late unearned runs sink the Rattlers. Ouch. Logan Gillaspie keeps on keeping on. This was his 8th quality start in 13* games started this year. *We're not counting the 2 IP on 6/16 right before the All-Star break.
  4. Final: AZL Giants Orange 4, AZL Brewers Gold 3 AZL Brewers Gold Box Score Despite allowing no runs after the second innings, Gold pitchers allowed enough runs before the third inning to keep the game out of reach for an anemic offense. Francis Florentino had a two-hit night with a double. Josh Shapiro, Zach Vennaro, and Jose Parra combined to blank Giant hitters in five innings of relief. AZL Brewers Gold Game Log
  5. Final: AZL Brewers Blue 4, AZL Royals 0 AZL Brewers Blue Box Score The Blues recorded their 5th shutout of the year. They are 11-19, so quite bizarrely almost half of their wins have come on shutouts, yet they have not been the victims of a shutout this year. Baseball. Three pitchers combined for the shutout: Karlos Morales making a rehab start (1 IP, 1 BB, 2 K), Nick Belzer (7 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 5 K), and Keegan McCarville (1 IP, 1 H). Cam Devanney hit his second pro long ball in the 4th, which is all the cushion the Blues would need. Arbert Cipion singled, doubled, and walked. AZL Brewers Blue Game Log
  6. Final: DSL Rangers1 5, DSL Brewers/Indians 3 DSL Brewers/Indians Box Score Eight is not great as the co-oppers drop their eighth straight game and 33rd on the year. Angel Bautista got two hits. No Brewers pitched. DSL Brewer/Indians Game Log
  7. Final: DSL Brewers 10, DSL Rangers2 4 DSL Brewers Box Score Fourth win in a row and third game scoring in double digits. More good stuff up and down the lineup as everyone gets a hit, Alberis Ferrer homers twice, Eduarqui Fernandez hits his record-setting 8th home run as part of a three-hit day, and Jesus Parra knocked two more doubles. Sebastian Burciaga and Alejandro Marte both contributed a single and a double. The Brewers have managed to put together a good DSL offense for what seems like the first time in their history. DSL Brewer pitchers allowed only one earned run, by starter Oscar Castaneda during his six innings on the mound. Castaneda's ERA is 2.29 after 8 starts in his first professional year of ball. Junior Montero threw 2 1/3 scoreless to notch his 4th save. DSL Brewers Game Log The game was 5-4 going into the bottom of the 7th: DSL Brewers Bottom of the 7th Alberis Ferrer homers (2) on a line drive to left field. Eduarqui Fernandez doubles (6) on a line drive to left fielder Luis Feliz. Sebastian Burciaga singles on a line drive to center fielder Johan Lopez. Eduarqui Fernandez scores. Sebastian Burciaga to 2nd. Jhonnys Cabrera singles on a ground ball to left fielder Luis Feliz. Sebastian Burciaga to 3rd. Wild pitch by pitcher Arthur Sabino. Sebastian Burciaga scores. Jhonnys Cabrera to 2nd. Alejandro Marte singles on a ground ball to left fielder Luis Feliz. Alejandro Marte out at 2nd on the throw, left fielder Luis Feliz to shortstop Luis Zambrano to second baseman John Mejia. Jhonnys Cabrera to 3rd. Jesus Parra grounds out, third baseman Jember Gutierrez to first baseman Freddy Puerta. Jhonnys Cabrera scores. Juan Frias pops out to shortstop Luis Zambrano.
  8. Biloxi postponed by rain. Doubleheader tomorrow.
  9. INF Alberis Ferrer and LHP Keiner Alfaro swap DSL clubs, with Ferrer headed to the main club and Alfaro off to the co-op. RHP Johan Belisario made another spot start for the Missions, but has since been shifted back to the Biloxi roster. RHP Aaron Wilkerson and C David Freitas both have been placed on San Antonio's Temp Inactive List. OF Tyrone Taylor was activated off of the Missions' IL (again), and RHP Zack Brown was activated off of the Temp Inactive List. RHP Jacob Barnes was also activated from the Missions' IL, with fellow RHP and probably-not-injured Jon Olczak going on the Missions IL.

  11. Box: Orem 8, Rocky Mountain 7 (10 innings) Alternative box includes inning-by-inning linescore Things were going well, right up to the point that they weren't.
  12. Carolina was rained out; makeup game scheduled for Thursday.
  13. Box: Jacksonville 2, Biloxi 0 Winning Streak Ends As Shuckers Are Shutout By Shrimp Biloxi Threatens Late Before Rain Delay By Andrew Chapman / Biloxi Shuckers The fourth really good appearance from Drew Rasmussen in his last five outings, though the offense could do nothing against super-prospect Sixto Sanchez or the other three Shrimp pitchers.
  14. San Antonio Pre-Game Media Notes *** Box: San Antonio 4, Iowa 3 Zack Brown was back, and made just about his best start in what has been a forgettable season. A walk-off fielder's choice for Trent Grisham, every kid's dream. Making a stand against the Cubs Coming into Tuesday night, the Missions held a 3-31 record this season in games they trailed entering the ninth. Against the Cubs, they were down 3-1 after eight. But in the end, facing reliever James Norwood (3-2), they manufactured a winning rally, sparked by a leadoff single from Nate Orf and a string of clutch plate appearances. Trent Grisham ended it with a one-out ground ball that scored Jacob Nottingham from third.

  16. Final: AZL Dodgers Mota 6, AZL Brewers Blue 1 AZL Brewers Blue Box Score It may surprise you to find this out, but a Brewers AZL team lost. The Blues did manage 8 hits, but they were all singled, and only walked once. Blue pitchers didn't walk anyone but did allow 12 hits, almost half of which were doubles. AZL Brewers Blue Game Log
  17. Final: DSL Cubs1 13, DSL Brewers/Indians 4 DSL Brewers/Indians Box Score 7th loss in a row for the sputtering co-op club. Elian Gonzalez singled and doubled, Luis Valderrama returned to the lineup for the first time in 12 days and doubled, and Angel Bautista drew two walks to pair with a single. All of the runs were scored on three Brewers pitchers. DSL Brewer/Indians Game Log
  18. Final: DSL Brewers 10, DSL Cardinals Red 9 DSL Brewers Box Score As noted above, this was the Eduarqui Fernandez Game as the young slugger belted three home runs to lead the Brewers to victory (barely). Fernandez is the first 17-year-old to hit 3 home runs in a game in affiliated ball in 3 years and ties the modern-era DSL Brewers' record for home runs in a season with 7. His OPS shot up 73 points and his wRC+ went from a "meh" 85 to an even (and perfectly average) 100. Not easy to do in your 43rd game of the season. Elsewhere in the lineup, Jesus Parra continued on with his insane July production by singling and doubling. He has a 1089 OPS in July, which is just slightly below Trent Grisham's, and more impressive considering the contrasting offensive environments between the DSL and the PCL. And Jesus doesn't even turn 17 until after the DSL season ends. He's gonna be a good one, ya'll. Elsewhere elsewhere, Farlyn Manon hit his first long ball of the year as part of a two-hit day, while Jhonnys Cabrera and Alejandro Marte were each on base three times. Starting pitcher Kleiber Bordones was great, hurling 5 scoreless innings, walking no one and striking out 8. His ERA on the year now stands at 1.94. Six other pitchers combined to give up 9 runs over the remaining 4 innings and made the game a little too close for comfort. Only 7 walks issued today, though, an improvement of 11 from the day before. DSL Brewers Game Log Eduarqui bombs, the last of which proved to be the deciding run: DSL Brewers Bottom of the 3rd Eduarqui Fernandez homers (5) on a fly ball to left center field. DSL Brewers Bottom of the 5th Eduarqui Fernandez homers (6) on a fly ball to left field. DSL Brewers Bottom of the 8th Eduarqui Fernandez homers (7) on a fly ball to left center field.
  19. From MLB Pipeline Twitter: That gives Fernandez 7 home runs. The Brewers have not had a DSL player hit more than 7 home runs in a season since re-establishing their academy in the Dominican in 2009. A handful of players have finished with exactly 7. There are 28 games remaining in the DSL regular season for Eduarqui to break the record.

  21. Stroman's a FA after next year.
  22. Final: AZL Brewers Gold 2, AZL Dodgers Mota 1 AZL Brewers Gold Box Score Hey, an AZL team won. The offense did just enough, aided by a Dodgers error, and three Gold pitchers turned in good performances to lead the team to victory. Santiago Elizondo made his second appearance of the year as it seems he is working back from an injury of unknown nature. He worked two flawless innings, striking out one. Brayan Salaya turned in his best outing of the year, allowing a run in 4 1/3 innings. Progress has been slow with the July 2016 bonus baby, but the worm seems to be turning for Salaya. Luis Contreras finished things out with 2 2/3 scoreless. No one had more than one hit, but Matthew Mika, Andres Melendez and Francis Florentino each had an extra-base knock; doubles for the former two, a triple for the last. Mika walked as well and was the only Gold member to get on base twice. AZL Brewers Gold Game Log
  23. Final: AZL Mariners 7, AZL Brewers Blue 5 AZL Brewers Blue Box Score A rough performance from starter Alexis Ramirez and four errors leading to two unearned runs were the only major blemishes on an otherwise productive day for the Blues, though it was enough to doom the team to their 18th loss in 28 games. Ramirez gave up 6 runs (5 earned) in 4 innings of work, though he did strike out six against two free passes. Keegan McCarville gave up an unearned run as well in his two innings. And Pablo Garabitos continues to make steps forward, working three scoreless innings allowing only a triple. Luis Silva lead the offense with two singles and a double; Cam Devanney and Danny Casals each singled and doubled too. Alex Hall and Orveo Saint each singled twice. Devanney is slashing .330/.414/.450 with more walks than Ks. Seems like he should be moved to up Rocky Mountain before the summer is out. AZL Brewers Blue Game Log
  24. Hard pass. Selling low on Shaw, and it undervalues Grisham.
  25. Hamilton is still rehabbing his Achilles injury. He won't play this year. Holt has a broken thumb, not sure if he'll play this year or not.
