  1. I am keeping things at Top 25. I know some people want more, but I've had others say they do not. People who routinely follow the minors have no problem going deep in the system to find prospects, but those who don't track things so closely might struggle - and thus not participate. As a community project, my goal is as many participants as possible. I also want to add that the bigger the list, the more work there is to do for myself. It's not as if I spend five minutes throwing things together - it's a bit of work. So we'll stick to 25 at this time. Maybe in the future we can expand, but for now, we'll stay with 25. Thanks.
  2. I posted this in the link report yesterday, but I'll add it here since it's appropriate: I was told by a baseball writer that Gatewood is one of the most coachable guys in the Brewers system. He works hard, listens to what he's being taught, experiments and implements with his approach as agreed upon with the coaching staff. Everything you expect and more. The last couple of years have been a lot of adjustments for Jake, and he's just the kind of guy that needs some patience. He's going to have some rough patches as he makes tweaks, adjusts to new positions, etc. But he said Gatewood is the kind of kid who has a chance because he works so hard and does have some really good skills. If it all translates into being a major leaguer, who knows. But at least Gatewood doesn't sound like a kid squandering his opportunity.
  3. I like Norris, but his constant little injuries are worrisome. I know he's been discussed, and some people like the guy, others don't. Like I said, I'd be happy with him, but he's by no means perfect. Still, he's Major League ready, five years of control (beyond 2016). Beyond Norris, you need something else, and the Tiger system is pretty bare. I guess it comes down to the finding the fit. The Tigers GM said he doesn't expect any 'sexy' moves at the deadline. JD Martinez, Norris and Zimmerman are all coming back from injuries in the next week or two, so they are hoping to make a push at that time. But they could really use Lucroy - plus a few pitchers.
  4. I think we are primed for a sizable collapse the last two months - assuming we trade Luc and others. Lucroy is such an important part of this team - losing him affects the club in so many ways. Add in potential loses - relievers in particular - and you could have a pretty bad club. I wouldn't be shocked if other starters are shipped out - Carter, Scooter, Nelson - even Braun could eventually be traded. It'll be painful trotting out guys like Wilkens and Middlebrooks. The thing is that I feel it's the right thing. I'll be a painful couple of months, but it's how things will need to go. Eventually, we'll see guys like Arcia, Hader, etc. I'll enjoy watching the young guys give it a go - even if it's a slow process.
  5. Nice to see Wilkens hit his first HR. He was smiling so big. Must be a heck of a feeling.
  6. Credit to Hernan Perez. He doesn't have any one great skill, but he's really worked hard to improve. I like watching him on defense. He's the best infielder we have. I'd much rather have him play then Middlebrooks.
  7. Chris Sale would have an answer for those hideous gray uniforms.
  8. Wren actually went 5 for 5 today.

  10. Who's the Mystery Player? Roll the dice to find out!
  11. Cubs are set for a while with Russell at SS, so they are dealing from a position of strength. That's a smart thing to do. Yes, Torres is a very good prospect to give up for a reliever, but I guess the Cubs are okay with that. I've never gotten the love for McKinney. He could be a fine player, even a starter, but he's always said 4th OF to me. But hey, you never know. He's till only 21, so there's lots of room for growth.
  12. Cubs have a 22 year old SS who started the major league All Star game. Doesn't mean he was worthy of it. That aside, they are set at SS for the next 4+ years with Russell. He's not a great player right now, but he's solid and likely to improve.
  13. Yankees could be sending something else back to the Cubs. MLB Trade Rumors said that Warren would be going to the Yankees but 'is not in the deal.' That could mean a bigger deal. Just speculation on my part, but the Cubs might like Brett Gardner. He's still pretty good, and the Yankees might be happy to move him. He would fit in well in LF for the Cubbies.
  14. I'm starting to warm to a Cleveland trade. I honestly don't know that much about their system, other than Bradley and Frazier, so this is mostly just going off scouting reports and analysis. Option 1: Cleveland gets Lucroy and Smith Milwaukee gets McKenzie/Sheffield, Mejia and one of Chang/Hillman/Diaz. Option 2: Cleveland gets Lucroy and Smith Milwaukee gets Frazier, one of McKenzie/Sheffield and one of Chang/Hillman/Diaz I like the idea of adding some high upside talent. While I prefer those guys be ready to come to Milwaukee, that isn't always realistic. So I'm dipping down and getting some guys in A ball. That said, I love Frazier, who's at AA. I think he could be a 30 HR guy and be an asset on the bases and on defense. I prefer Frazier of Bradley because I think Frazier has more upside - and his crazy ginger hair is awesome. One of the big things about trading Lucroy is he's our one chance at a really, really highly rated prospect. Not just a fringe Top 100 guy, but a top guy. A pitcher would be ideal, but I just don't see a good fit. The clubs most interested in Luc (Indians, Rangers, Astros, Red Sox) just don't have that player. The Sox had Espinoza, but used him for pitching.
  15. Latest report is that it's SS Glibber Torres (#24 on MLB Pipeline Top Prospect List) and 3B Jeimer Candelario (ranked as the Cubs #7 prospect on MLB Pipeline) for Chapman. Easily could be other pieces or contingencies (such as a contract extension for Chapman) as well.
  16. I just can't figure out how no one waved their hands and just said, "This is a horrible trade! This is a horrible trade!" I realize they wanted a guy they felt was a top of the rotation type player, but even running the deal by a couple of semi knowledgable fans would have caused them concern. Just weird.
  17. Interesting that the article does say that the Brewers were "weighing offers from other teams, which include the Rangers and Indians."

  19. AZ would be foolish to sell Miller low. They've gone all in with him and Greinke, plus they'll have Pollack back, maybe Corbin can rebound. Same with Peralta. They are just a disaster this year, but there's still some talent. Too give up on Miller would just be kind of dumb (unless you can get Dansby Swanson for him).
  20. This kind of offer is really just kind of insulting. I mean, I guess it can't hurt to try, but seriously, if the Mets take the time to set up a phone call with Stearns, and make this offer, you wonder what Stearns reaction is. You can imagine him just saying, "Don't waste my time with crap like this." But of course, that would be rude and he probably just said 'no thanks." In the Mets defense, maybe they said something like, "We'd like Lucroy, we can build around d'Arnaud. Would you be interested?" But if they called and said, "We'll give you d'Arnaud for Lucroy straight up." You almost wish Stearns would just hang up. It's kind of like in fantasy baseball - there's always some clown who is offering wildly lopsided trades all the time, and you just want to block all his notifications.
  21. That's a lot of injury issue to acquire. d'Arnaud can't stay health and has had 3 concussions. Wheeler still isn't back from TJ surgery. Molina had TJ surgery this off season. Another thing, d'Arnaud and Wheeler are each only controlled for three years. I really want guys who will be around longer. To me it's way too much risk on our part - and the talent just isn't that special.
  22. [sarcasm]Carlos Torres for Moncada?[/sarcasm] That's too much. We'll give them Boyer instead.
  23. Thornburg is having an outstanding season - arguably better than Jeffress. His big bugaboo has been HRs. He just doesn't have a big track record of success, so teams might be hesitant to give up too much for him.
  24. Chapman is an elite talent - one of the very best at what he does - maybe even the best reliever in the game. By fWAR, he's the best reliever over the past five years. He's one of the few relievers that could fetch the haul of a top 30 prospect. The Reds undersold Chapman last winter big time, but he had serious legal issues then.
