  1. please no. they guy will be at 100 pitches by the 4th inning.
  2. I bet they go with Fiers. His ERA is 4.13, but his numbers are pretty solid otherwise - especially considering he's pitching in the PCL. He's got a 1.27 WHIP, 42 K and 16 BB in 47 innings, and only 3 HR allowed. Those are decent numbers in that environment. Plus, Melvin and company like to reward guys who put their time in, work hard, etc. And then they don't have to move Thornburg to the 40 man roster, as pointed out. Peralta has been underwhelming of late.
  3. They're checking out Izturis. They figure anyone hitting that poorly has something wrong with him.
  4. Hiking is big this time of year (in the early mornings) if you are into that. If you like nightlife, Old Town Scottsdale is generally considered the "happening" place. If you like Mexican food, I recommend the TeePee Taproom which is on the south side of the ballpark. Its also supposed to be "cool" this weekend with highs around 90. You might want to play a little catch before you go. We might need you to pitch for Milwaukee.
  5. I can see it if it's just laying down the bunt - like Marcum did. If you were looking for a base hit - that's a different story. Didn't Parra break his finger trying to lay down a bunt a few years ago? Maybe they don't like his bunting skills and are afraid of a repeat.
  6. what's that mean? is it a nasty injury? something he'll just need a little rest for? any clue. It really could be anything. Your hip flexors are the muscles right at the top of your quadriceps. If it's bad, there's no way he'd be able to pitch for a couple weeks. If it's just a minor tweak, a week of rest and ice and he could be 100%. Awesome. Thanks. Good to know.
  7. A-Ram has lifted his OPS over .700. It's at .702. That hasn't been seen in Milwaukee since 2010.

  9. I bet they go with Fiers if they have to make a move. His ERA is 4.13, but he's pretty solid otherwise - especially considering he's pitching in the PCL. Plus, Melvin and company like to award guys who put their time in, work hard, etc. Of course, they may decide on 'big upside' and roll the dice with Thornburg, but they don't do that often. Especially with pitchers. It would be interesting.
  10. Improving SS is the one key area that the Brewers can make a move to improve if they want to win in 2012. Maysonet and Izzy are nothing more than back ups (at best). Now, in addition to getting a better SS, we need a majority of the following to occur: - Weeks to return to form - A-Ram to return to form - Morgan to return to form - K-Rod to return to form - Axford to return to form - Veras to return to form - Wolf to return to form If 5 or 6 of the above items need to occur, and then we'll be back into things. But we have too many guys playing way below their capabilities. We can't ask Izzy or Maysonet to 'return to form' - because they are playing to form - poorly. The above guys we can hold out hope they'll get it together (some of them are showing signs of it already). But guys who aren't good - like Izzy - we can't expect to suddenly get 'good' - or even average. Therefore, that's the one roster spot at this time that we can really scrounge for an upgrade. The rest of the guys - we just have to hope they get it together.
  11. Tejada is almost sloth-like in the field. I think he'd be a big downgrade in the field. I'd rather go Renteria than Tejada.
  12. Bad luck there. Izzy and Luc both hit the ball well. Would have been nice to have won it there.
  13. While I agree with you assessment but be careful what you wish for. Remember when everyone wanted Clint Barmes instead of Yuni last year and in this offseason? His offense so far this year is Weeks without the walks or the power. Speaking of Weeks, if he were hitting, the lack of offense at SS wouldn't be so damaging. Honestly, what have they got to lose bringing up Bianchi and giving him the job for 2 months? They can always go back to Izturis. Renteria really looked done as a fielder last year. I doubt he'd be much of an upgrade. I agree with Briggs - what have we got to lose with Bianchi. Maysonet isn't much. Izturis is a .500 OPSing SS with solid (but not great) glove. Bianchi had a decent bat a few years back - before missing 2010 with Tommy John surgery. The guy was their 2008 defensive player of the year in the minors. I honestly don't know how it is now - the arm surgery might have sapped some of his skill. 2011 wasn't anything great for him, but he had missed a full year of ball before that. It takes time to recover. Maybe he's just now getting up to full strength. As for Barmes, I wanted him over Gonzalez. But man, he's been awful at the plate.
  14. Fangraphs pointed out the Cardinals starting line up the other day AVERAGED a 6.4 WAR over 600 plate appearances. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/daily-notes-seriously-the-cardinals-offense/ Okay, a couple of those guys only had 50-80 ABs, but the point is that they have been playing insanely great baseball on the offensive side. Those numbers are unsustainable. Combine that with some aging players with significant injury history performing incredible (Beltran and Furcal), the offensive numbers are going to fall off. The key for St. Louis is who's healthy (and hot) when the playoffs come around. Furcal hitting .360 in May is great, but if he's on the DL on Oct. 1, he doesn't matter. They also appear to have some good young position players (not to mention pitchers) that they are comfortable bringing up and moving into the line up. Their 1B goes down and they aren't responding with recycled guys like Brooks Conrad. If they needed other guys, I wouldn't be shocked to see them go down to AA where they have OF Oscar Taveras - who's having a great year. Or even 2B Koltan Wong. Both guys are probably a bit premature to call up, but they have upside and project as big league starters.
  15. I like how coshun does the 'great defense' montage and then Rock proceeds to talk about all the errors and how poorly we played defensively the last two nights.
