  1. Anyone else totally underwhelmed by the supposedly #1 or #2 type pitchers on the market? I would think DS is not going to give away too much for a #3 starter in Gray, dude from Sox, or a number of other names out there.... nor should we. A dominant #1 from the Mets could go a long way for us on the mound and almost as important, in our team and fans' expectations and mindset for the future. de Grom could help us for 3 and a half years. We would have to part with a bunch, but we are in a position to acquire top line rotation talent. They do not grow on trees. I'm ok with parting with big young talent, but only to get it at the top of the rotation. The great thing is that our organization depth is so deep now because of unexpectedly good/great years at the MLB level for many controllable players. This isn't trade the farm for CC or Greinke.... more like trading a few acres and a herd of cattle. Would Davies, Hader, and Brinson get it done? I'd float it out there. If the Mets are hoping to compete next year, this isn't going to happen. If they are looking to regroup, maybe they would like to get a young haul in return. If not a match, Cole from Pittsvpburgh for a little less? By the way, How much more fun is it when we are competing for playoffs? Oodles.
  2. I'd be more interested in Cole from Pittsburgh, and I would be willing to give a couple of minor league OFielders ( our surplus) to help fill the gap left by McCutchen.
  3. Not really.... still a small lead in the grand picture. If we lost the last two instead of winning, the lead would be 1.5 games. Now, If it was September 6...... they would be sweating.
  4. Yes, not a big family though. Just me, my wife, and my son...and now that my son is in college and can only attend a handful of games from our 20 game pack, we cut it down to 2 seats. Is your argument that if you can't afford something you should just take it anyways? Sadly, I think that is exactly what he is saying. He is saying that his actions are justified. There, however, are several ways the Brewers have made 2nd deck tickets (primarily) affordable. I went to 3 games in the the Loge Inf for $10 each by getting group tiix at a discount. Through BP and the Oldtime Ballplayers Association, I have been sitting in similar seats for a decade at half price. I go to others by StubHub for maybe $15 or slightly higher.
  5. I buy Uecker seats maybe once or twice a year..... Why would I pay the whole fee this deal is asking for? $1 or $2 total compared to $30 a month? The Uecker line moves WAY quicker than any other line. An hour? More like 5, 10 minutes.
  6. It is for a standing room only, yet this only promotes fans sitting in seats not paid for.
  7. After taking off for 3rd and being out again.... I think CC said to himself I'm not challenging it for this crap... he was safe, called out, then like a tball kid took off for 3rd. He didn't overslide the base.
  8. Everything screams good glove, questions bat. The glove is a given, not the bat.
  9. HR Derby rosters already decided, but no you don't have to be an All Star. Haven't checked rosters to HR rosters.... but are all HR Derby players All Stars this season? When was the last non All star in it?
  10. Why wouldn't he be? He's been dealing before the ink was dry on his GM contract. Not only that but they have an opportunity to make the post season. How awesome is that?!? Said earlier in June that they would not be buyers at the deadline... can't find the source now.
  11. Anybody else hear Stearns in game interview today?????? Shocked by some of his answers. In a nutshell, he is looking to deal...
  12. Not sure if I can remember the rules with this.... Thames would be an intriguing contestant, especially in South Korea.
  13. If we could get a starting pitcher that could help us over the next let's say 2 and a half years, we could view that as a next step in the rebuild process, right? Price tag for that is steep, though.
  14. . I think you guys are getting the story mixed up. It was Lucroy who approached US about an extension in 2015. The Brewers turned HIM down. Agree- reported as Lucroy broaching the topic..... Lucroy probably wanted Molina money or a shade lower.
  15. "Iffy-hit" ?? He's got all the tools to be an offensive force, uses all the field, doesn't strike out a ton, has power to all fields, this without his body totally filled out. He's an emerging star. Right now. No way his arby years will be $4 million, $6 million, $8 million. More like double that. If they could get him for 7 years $72 million it would be a bargain. Here are the next 6 years, 2017-2022, and what the team would pay him if he performs like you say he will with the arby numbers YOU are giving.... 2017-2019 2 million total (rounded up) 2020 8mill 2021 12mil 2020 16 mil So if he does great, about 6 years for 38 mil. Just playing it out year to year. You call for an extension of 7 years for $72 million, and this would be a bargain? And this is the same guy you would have sent to AAA in May? Respectfully disagree with any sort of big money extension. Go Arcia! Be an all star and MVP and all that, but come on.... 72 mil?
  16. You were this high on him at the end of April? My guess is no. The talk was more about if he could ever be an average hitting SS. The talk was Villar is the budding star. If you were writing this post in April and were pining for his extension because he obviously was going to be really good based on just "watching them play, not looking at numbers", I'd be thoroughly impressed. Instead, it's Jonny come lately. Arcia good, Villar bad. Pump the brakes and let's just see what he can do for a while. He isn't anywhere close to Braun 2007. No need to over reach here and try to save a few bucks in 2022 and 2023. Risk/reward still sides with too risky without as much upside in my mind. Also, I don't know of many positive team experiences with 7 or 8 year contracts.
  17. Maybe moving him up to 7th...... getting him some more at bats with men on base seems smart. If he can do what he is doing over the next month, 2nd could be his spot.
  18. Vogt can't throw a runner out and Pina has not been great of late. Agreed pitching is the need, but let's not think we are set at catcher. Good point that we probably won't get him from Texas, though.
  19. Stay what course? Aren't we about picking up leftover garbage on the cheap, polishing it up, and getting some bang for our buck? Now, that course fits this transaction.
  20. Villar is not comparable at all. Totally different contract proposal, Villar we were just basically buying out arbitration years. Also Arcia has an incredible glove, much more of a sure bet to have positive value going forward than Villar . Also kind of hard to 'learn' anything from the Villar situation half a year in -- it's still no certainty that the $20M offer would look like a bad deal for us in 4 years . Remmeber when people were relieved that Jean Segura didn't sign his extension offer? Either way, it's kind of silly to dismiss an extension for Arcia on the grounds that Villar hasn't been good this year. If there's any ideal long-term extension candidate on this team to build around, it's Arcia. He could be locked up for 8 years and still only be 30 by the time his contract ends . Villar and Arcia not comparable? Both players one year into majors(2016 Villar), both SS really with hopefully a plus bat, both have upside in other areas (Villar SB, Arcia Def), both Brewers, both probable similar extension contracts thru arbitration, four or five years(Villar contract specifics weren't made known except for $20 mil, not years or player/team options), both questionable bats with a small window of success (thus far). Wisely dismiss the idea unless the deal would be ultra team friendly.
  21. If it "only" takes a middle prospect or two to get him, get him. Why wait around? We know how good he has been and could be again.
  22. Trade some or one of our boatload of minor league outfielders for starting pitching help(Matt Moore?) Get Hader and Woodruff ready to start games in August. Look for relief help without giving up much.
  23. Villar is not comparable at all. Totally different contract proposal, Villar we were just basically buying out arbitration years. If there's any ideal long-term extension candidate on this team to build around, it's Arcia. He could be locked up for 8 years and still only be 30 by the time his contract ends . Needn't I remind you, baseball contracts are guaranteed money. It's really easy spending other people's money and giving gobs to maybe save a little in the long run, but much Tougher making out that check to a possible flop while eating up key resources for the smallest market team in baseball. To do it on a great fielding, light hitting SS, who only a week ago was NOT getting any calls for a long-term deal BECAUSE of his questionable bat, is borderline insane for us. Let this good hitting spell/stretch play itself out. Let's see how he does in 2018 and maybe even 2019 when we are paying him peanuts. Then maybe offer the extension.
  24. No need to sign him NOW to an extension.... are u kidding me? Didn't we learn anything from the Villar situation? Many wanted to extend him too. Let's just keep him on the cheap for the next two and a half years (at least) before even considering it. He probably won't hit that well that his salary would jump to too expensive levels in arbitration. Now if he wanted a Lucroy type of extension where the club made out like a bandit, I'd jump at that for many of our young guys.
