  1. Phillips for Franklin.....he could get a start or two until Braun is healthy.
  2. Never heard of "lingering issues" with Sogard's knee from CC or Stearns....... just conjecture repeated from Rock/BA. How come Sogard is so easily looked at as fringe player, but Guerra is our late blooming "ace"? Just play Sogard until he cools off. I remember Brady Clark leading off a year or two really well; then he was just a guy. Play Villar down in order, and keep getting him at bats. Don't bury him yet. I can see him getting hot later this year. Villar can be a big SB threat in late innings, as well.
  3. Villar has had one very good year. I'd say great but the mental errors were racked up at a historic rate. He isn't guy with five plus years of good/very good hitting. I know CC is trying to get him going, but Sogar has to play somewhere for the time being. Why can't Sogar be this year's version of Villar or Guerra?
  4. Wondering about that... thanks
  5. Thanks for the reply, and getting this thread back on topic... We are hitting the Mudhens game first, followed by the 3 MLB games. I have only been to T-Rats games as far as minor league games, so it will be nice to see how other minor league teams conduct business... We plan to do KC, CIN, St. Louis and both Chicago stadiums next summer, with another minor league game thrown in if at all possible. Hopefully this will be a yearly event until all the MLB stadiums have been seen live in person. Speaking towards your next summer trip, the Quad Cities has/have a great park (A ball), with many unique features.
  6. Our hot hitters should play. That was Sogar. Who knows any more. We didn't have to just sit Villar. Sogar could have rotated a few positions, sat a day, and so on. What has the man done to earn Franklin status? Play him and lead him off until he comes down to earth. Then again, he could hit .200 and still have a better OBP than Villar.
  7. So have players hand out Miller beer shirts to kids when visiting area schools?
  8. The next time I go into Miller Park to watch the Brewers, I think I'll lodge a complaint. Is the complaint booth in the Leinie Lodge or on one of the beer decks :-) Nowadays to most people, Brewers is a team or occupation. Miller Park is a place. Leinie's and beer decks are options where you can drink if of age. Kids can't buy a beer at Miller Park. Yet, here's a free shirt that promotes alcohol? Slippery slope... Some schools are still fairly strict with what students wear, whether you agree with it or not. When has an ALL fan Giveaway been a Shirt with the cheesy punchline being a reference to alcohol? Just make it for those of age and be done with it.
  9. He's a 31 year old journeyman who had a hot week. He should be getting almost no playing time. Play him until he gets cold.... had 2 four hit games in a series and since he's hardly had 8 at bats so our 200 2b can keep playing everyday. Nuts.
  10. Can hardly believe that the Brewers are giving this shirt to ALL fans. The word beard is spelled out as beerd, and it's being handed out to kids. Didn't we have this whole thing with Bernie not sliding into a mug of beer for similar reasons, marketing alcohol to minors? Pretty sure that most schools do not allow shirts that promote drugs or alcohol into school...
  11. Woodruff has to be close too...
  12. Woodruff solid again at Col. Springs this weekend. Surprised if he isn't brought up at some point this session, whether it being for an injury fill In or replacement. Then again, is he boxed in by Espino for the near future?
  13. I have been to the stadiums in Toronto (93), Cleveland (04), and Detroit (07). The Brewers were playing twice at Toronto (Molitor) and Detroit. That made the games themselves more enjoyable. I was in awe at Skydome like we all were in the early 90's. I think I still would be today. The CNN Tower is an attraction right next to the ballpark you could take in. Toronto is/was a really clean town, seemed fairly safe to walk around. Jacobs Field was my favorite out of the three. I stood in the left field corner (Homer Porch) for the majority of the game. I put my drink literally inside the foul pole. Check it out. There is a lot of standing room in that corner and you can stand directly above the fence. Actually, I was there for BP too (caught a ball). Pretty place. Detroit's ballpark had a lot going on inside of it. I remember seeing amusement type of rides (carousel and a couple other kiddie rides). I took some swings in a batting cage, as well. The skyline is nice, but there is a parking garage in it which is fitting for Detroit. More than anything, i remember being glad that we were out of there because our walk to and from the ballpark didn't feel safe at all. In hindsight, I would have paid more to get a closer parking spot by the stadium. I like that you are hitting up a minor league stadium too. That seems like a good way to start the trip. You gain perspective of major league stadiums that way. Cheaper tickets and food are pluses, as well. Have a great time! I'd like to take a similar trip (Dayton,Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Chicago WS) in the future.

  15. Might as well send Sogard down if we aren't going to use him.... Nutso. CC blew up a good thing too early.
  16. Sogard on again to start an inning.... and on again period.
  17. Any OF worth anything is either protected already or won't need to be next year. But I'm open to a trade as long as it's not for a rental. Any pitcher would need to have a few years of control. If they make a Sabathia or Greinke type deal, I will rip up my David Stearns Fan Club membership card. If we are stocked well in the OF with good to great prospects, we can't protect all of them. Right now, we have eight on the 40 man: Braun, Broxton, Santana, Franklin, Brinson, Reed, Cordell, and Phillips (nine if we count Perez). With an influx of talent that will need to be protected in the next two years ACROSS THE BOARD, and with several of our players under team control (actually all of these OF under control for the next five years plus), trades plural have to be made. I don't want us getting robbed royally thru Rule 5.
  18. It's pretty clear to me what he's saying. Let me translate:. If we are in position to win this year and there are moves that will improve our chances then we will make them but not at the expense of sacrificing any players in our system that we have identified as future parts of our core. I think both the owner and GM are in total agreement with that strategy. I've written this many times over the last couple of years.... How can a small market team expect to win consistently over a long period of time? It hasn't been done yet! What small market team has been to the playoffs consistently over a five to seven year period, including a WS title? Free agency and high arby prices make it nearly impossible. Like it or not, Stearns will need to take his shot and will need to give up some (not all) of the farm to get us over the edge, whether that means into the playoffs or into a WS with some proven talent to fill gaps. On the flip side, we could accomplish Stearns goal of winning consistently, being better than average, and live in that 80 to 90 win gap for the next 10 years. We would make a playoff series or two, but we could be the MLB version of the Milwaukee Bucks, living in that #8 seed territory or #13 pick of the lottery. Not one wants that. His tough talk is easy now. No pressure to win now. No one expects much from the Brewers this year or next (although it is exciting to be in first place). That will change, however, and he will have to move good, young talent for proven stop gaps to accomplish goals.
  19. Get Sogard up at the top of the order! Why not? He's in a zone (or was). He has been getting on base at a high clip, and that is what we desperately need with all of our power #2 thru 4. He hasn't started since Friday. Really. Almost as bad as yanking Broxton up and down around last year on bench/AAA duty when Captain Kirk was manning CF.
  20. Why can't we be buyers and not mortgage the future? If we are above .500 at the deadline and if have surplus of decent minor league OF that will not all be protected in 40 man this winter, trading one for a reliever/starter makes sense.
  21. Have to believe he was told that he would only be up for a day....
  22. I hate that whenever Brian Anderson comes up it comes down to "everyone else sucks" so Brian is good. My bar for liking an announcer is not high. It begins with the announcer actually liking to be at the ballpark.
  23. I really don't want to trot him out there much longer in the leadoff spot. He has to produce. Does he have an option?
  24. Hader and Woodruff are going to be up here this year at some point.... regardless. "Still in it" will be up to our starting pitching more than anything. Agree that a major trade for a SP is not coming. Woodruff and Hader are the hope and prayer if we are in it late. A trade of a good not great OF prospect from our heap for a lefty bullpen arm with years of control would not shock me. Actually, I expect that sooner rather than later.
