3B in 2015 if A-Ram not re-signed
rickh150 replied to Matt Breen's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Well, I'd like to see the Brewers go for it yet in 2015.... make a few changes, a few deals, but for the present.... If Braun still stinks, we come up short again, we can look to take a step back in 2016 and 2017, deal Gomez, Peralta, etc. The team still has too much talent not to go for playoffs. -

http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/buster-olney/post/_/id/8223 Could Brewers add Donaldson at 3rd for Davis/Fiers? Davis and Donaldson both lack some defensive skill... A's looking for another power bat in OF after trading Cespedes Both have appox. 4 years left... Brewers need a 3B..... Big bat with decent OBP Ramirez could move to 1st and Parra to LF Nelson is the 5 If we're looking to tweak the line-up and not do a overhaul, I'm for this. Lineup changes.... Get Gennett and Braun in spots they both feel comfortable in. Gennett is a leadoff hitter that can make decent contact. Braun isn't the power threat any more so don't put him in the 3 (why RR put him in the 5, I don't know- extra pressure to hit for power, ya think?) Gomez can bat 3rd and is told to put on the brakes, and go base to base, because he plays too dumb to know better (definitely not leadoff). Clark could spell Ramirez at 1st, easing him into the position/leagure. Young Donaldson could be a MVP type player when healthy. Luc in the 6th takes some pressure off of him too. Remember he was an afterthought (8th hitter) in 2011. Gold glover batting 7th and a rejuvenated Segura at 8 to start season. Gennett Braun Gomez Ramirez Donaldson Lucroy Parra Segura A's and Brewers coming off similar seasons..... could really help each other. -
How YOU would have set up the rotation in playoffs
rickh150 posted a topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Assuming the Brewers would have taken the second wildcard and would be going to Pitt tomorrow, how would you have alligned your pitching. Assume everyone pitched same days in reg. season. Thurs...........Wild Card..........Peralta NLDS Game 1.............Fiers NLDS Game 2............. Gallardo NLDS Game 3.............Peralta NLDS Game 4............Lohse NLDS Game 5............Fiers/Gallardo (whoever pitched better in NLDS game 1 or 2) Garza out with stiffness....... Nelson in pen....... -
Dumb (strategic weakness) and Dumber (failure to address it)

NO MORE GOMEZ AIRMAILING IT HOME................. MY OH MY Someone in that clubhouse or the owner himself should make that a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE topic this offseason Happened again twice on Friday........... Doesn't he learn from his countless mistakes? Doesn't someone in that clubhouse HAVE TO step up and call him out at some point? -
I think I've just watched the dumbest Brewers team in the last 30 years of watching Brewers baseball in person and daily (now) on tv. I'll mainly blame the players since they are the ones most responsible. They play. Yet RR and coaches have accountability here too. Let's review some from this season.....(now this mainly Gomez, but not limited to him by no means) Stupid outs on the bases (not stealing bases)... 1. Thrown out rounding second recently in Pittsburgh in the 9th (Gomez actually thought about staying, sadly, went anyway) 2. Dove back into 2nd base when on 2nd base with man on 1st and grounder to SS and no outs-double play (never seen before) 3. Picked off of a base (too often this year when few are stealing threats) 4. Caught stealing 3rd for 3rd out (most I've seen for a season) 5. Outs at 3rd base on grounders to short (most I've seen in a season) 6. Needlessly stealing 3rd base late with TWO OUTS WHEN HIS RUN WAS MEANINGLESS (multiple times-once in St. Louis with Molina catching) 7. .220 hitters swinging 3-0 8. Throws home to cut down scoring runner that do not have a sliver of a chance for out AND then airmailing it with two outs allowing runner to walk to 2B. (Gomez-King) 9, Hacking at 2-0 pitches when down by 3 or 4 in the 8th or 9th 10. Outs on "Contact play" AND having RR back up Herrera that he was making the right read on weak flare to SS 11. Getting doubled up on routine fly balls 12. Stealing and not knowing where the batted ball is 13. Not remembering the out situation in key situations. 14. Letting "my 8th inning guy" continue after putting 3 on......oh year, no one is up in the pen either (didn't Smith give up like 6 earned one game? How does that happen?) 15. Lack of any hit and runs over the year and years (yeah, yeah, we swing for the fences, not our game crap.... whatever. We have Lucroy, Braun, Scooter making contact to right all the time; good candidates with Gomez on 1B... we can't organize a couple of hit and runs a year to get a few runs from a lousy offense in Sept.? More dumbness to read signs and lack of strategic possibilities.. A couple of stories here. On a long car ride, I finished listening to a game that the Brewers lost in June. I then called in to the call-in show and asked Davey about the baserunning strategies/hitting strategies when down late (taking pitches) and he was less politically correct than he is on tv postgame. He stressed the need to make pitchers throw strikes when down a few late and not make dumb outs on the bases (had some Kenny Lofton story too). I also wrote in to beat writer Rosario and asked him to put up a sign in Brewers clubhouse- "No outs at 3rd with 2 outs. No outs at 3rd or home with 0 outs." He wrote back saying that he believes a sign like that is up already in the clubhouse. Really? You would have never known it. Questions...Is it just dumb players? Does RR not be more strategic (hit and run, pull reliever earlier when he doesn't have it that night, safety squeeze like in 2011) because he doesn't think his players can execute? Or is it because he doesn't trust players to read the signs/understand situation? Is he that afraid of the player's reaction? That being said, do the Brewers actually have a "You have to steal on this pitch sign"? I tend to believe not for the lack of double steals. Do they actually have a take sign. I tend to think not for all of our .220 hitters swinging on 3-0 anytime and 2-0 late when behind. Why does Gomez get away with EVERYTHING he does stupidly (no sitdowns-at least publically for stupidity)? What a FRESH and NEW thing it would be to actually have RR say something is unacceptable and sit a player ala Mattingly! What a FRESH and NEW thing to actually talk about playing smart (not just aggressive on the bases and free swingers at bat-tired of it....Play smart first! Certain times call for a take and certain times call for a no steal). Overall, we are handcuffed strategically because of the type of player we have and the lack of trust RR has in them. Our players have zero accountability when it comes to supposedly unacceptable mental errors (actual ERA and AVG/OPS sure- they play less or more accordingly). I don't remember any Brewers player getting benched for a mental error publicly. THat being said, do players get quizzed on baseball situations? Baseball rules? Any flashcards in the clubhouse on baseball smarts? RR needs to be more like Bo Ryan in one, if not more, ways. Why? He would do what's right and best for the team regardless of personal feeling from players. Do you think he wouldn't have sat Gomez this year for the countless dumb things he's done? Decker doesn't block out and he's out for 3 minutes. You perform right mentally or you sit. With him, if you miss a shot or two, you don't necessarily come out. When you make defensive mental errors or UNFORCED turnovers, you might as well start walking to the bench. Mental toughness a Huge reason for his successes and latest trip to Final Four.... Now, he might get fired from his MLB job for different reasons, but he would have the courage to stand up and say "No more" for certain things. Not that strategic weakness was the main problem this season, but it contributed to our weak offense, play in close games, and apparent mental collapse. Needs to be a topic of emphasis next year! Besides losing games late, these situations zap the energy out of a team more than anything.

How do we turn this sad franchise around?
rickh150 replied to The stache's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Stache-Accusing most Brewers fans of "accepting mediocre play" is a bunch of crap. We have been supporting this organization in a sport that unlike the NFL, is not playing on a level playing field in terms of money, FA desirability (although we have come a long way), and signings of international players. If we were on a more level playing field (Salary cap, international players in the draft), I'd be shotgun in your bus. We're not on that playing field yet. No small market team is and will be as long as the big markets have monopoly money to play with in terms of local TV money. Limited revenue sharing, the extra wildcard, and a few different draft rules are helping, but the sport still favors the money. Joe Schmo could run the Dodgers or Yankees and probably outperform most smaller markets because of the money difference yet today. Money could buy Joe Schmo better drafters and decision makers so he wouldn't have to do it too. Love how you picked out two years when the WS winner had 20 million dollars or so more money than we did those years? Those were the best two you could get, huh? Nice. Thanks for proving my point more. Having David Cone in 92, a SS in 2011, Fielder/closer in 2012, and let's say another two big bats at 1B and SS this year would have given us way better odds to be playing in the playoffs and more. Yet, why of why do we have to call the whole organization out? If the so called average person sees the Brewers as "losers", then there are a lot of other teams in that camp too. I'd say 4/5 of the teams would be there too. The A's, Rays, and Twins would be there too, right? Gotta throw in all the big market teams that have not won lately and the midmarkets that are one and dones in the playoffs. All this being said, and I do appreciate Stache's passion here, he does have many valid points about the direction of the organization, this year's pitfalls with the typed of hitters we have, the irresponsibility of decisons being made on field, and the bandaid approach. I'm not just sitting here saying, "Oh, well.... same ol Brewers.... Get em next year...." I'm ticked too and if heads roll I can see why! Stache- Your writing style aside, I have taken this September slide just as bad, if not worse, than you. You are upset and that really is just right now to be. Yet, you have thrown this entire organization, its past, its recent successes, and what the Brewers are currently, under the a bus driven by YOU. You think by just having Brewers fans say, " We're mad as ______ and we're not going to take it anymore" that this will help? Not showing up and not supporting the team will help? Saying that we (including you because you are a die hard fan, right?) have higher standards will help? What does that mean, by the way? No playoffs in a year or two and the entire management team is fired? Every year that happens? Now before you answer, you better be thinking that exactly otherwise MY standards are higher than yours. I am still very confident in Mark A. and his ability to bring championship play to Milwaukee. Even if it is not this year, I support him, am thankful for his ownership, thankful what he has done for this organization in the last decade and eagerly want and wait for more playoff baseball and a championship in Milwaukee. -

An average Ryan Braun.... not an MVP Braun, just an average one, and we are in the playoffs somehow this year. My point? No way does this thread exist. Melvin and Roenicke are lauded as guys who have the Brewers playing well and in the playoffs again. The past would still be what it is. The future would still be cloudy and merky, at best, with the other teams in the division. Yet this thread of "woe is me because of our SAD organization (really?)" would be replaced with "Hey, the Brewers are coming around!" Yes, this end of the season has been sad, but it still isn't over. Baseball is a CRAZY game; this possibly could be the best baseball story ever told. -

Thanks for the message 'stache- However- I see your posts as a bit of an overreaction. You wrote the first it appears in the middle of the night, and I know I'm not 100% myself then either. I'd have more respect for it if you wrote this during human awake hours in the offseason or when the Brewers were doing well. We should be just upset with THIS season and only THIS season until it is over, and it isn't over yet- be it close. Why bring up the past or future now? Because you are frustrated like us all over the last few weeks. Next, the Brewers past hasn't been great, we all know that. Yet we have a great stretch from 77 to 82 and would have been in the playoffs several times then with the current system. We've been to a World Series. Yet, how about mention that we are the smallest market in baseball, have had very little tv money comparatively over the years, and have been outspent by nearly everyone over the team's existence. Like I'll argue all MLB small market teams, our success was limited to one or two year bursts because of free agency and the loss of free agents. Yet, over the past Mark A. years, the organization has been very competitive, been to the playoffs, won a series, and has fielded a marvelous following at Miller Park, with 2.5 million plus every year. We've had several young players come through the system, had many timely trades to get them in the playoffs, and have been encouraged many times with FA signings. Players actually want to play here. What a change! Some stuff needs to change, you are right. We were a Stupid is as stupid does team this year from top to bottom, most notably Gomez and our batters free swingin and stealin attitude. The future isn't rosy either with the Cubs Cards and Pirates potential. yet let's temper our outbursts a bit -
His crying got his team a few calls late..... including the one on Braun.

I don't want RR gone... just see no logic in sitting Clark down now. My guess is he is a flash in the pan, but hey who knows? Why not get the most out of him right now. To me it would be like sitting Fiers down after a few of his great starts. To me, it's on par with starting Marcum in Game 6 in 2011 and Sveum starting Suppan in Game 4 of 2008...... no argument to support his move (Overbay is what he is, no one is hitting for power except Clark in limited at bats) Only other situation I really struggled with..... Roenicke talking about contact play with a guy on 3B about three months ago. Weak Liner to SS and he's DEFENDING Herrera for taking off for home on contact play. Anyone remember this?
-
How RR can leave Clark, arguably our hottest bat on the bench..... -in a pennant race -against the 1st place team - did I mention hottest bat - when the team cannot hit - when the team is not hitting for power IS BEYOND ME.... By the way, who's pitching tomorrow? Marcum? NLCS Game 6 logic= Playing Overbay at 1B now VENTING HORRIBLY.... Man, play the hot hand! Get a clue!
-
Still time for a turnaround.... Brewers get Gomez back soon(?) and expect a different lineup to jump start anything
-
Agree with dhonks lineup Gomez days in the 1 spot should be over. We get more out of him in the heart of the order with his power AND bunting ability (3rd base runner, 1 out). This would shift his focus to hitting more/ running into outs less.

1. Real fans don't stay home when things go bad. 2. If you stay home because of a losing streak of a playoff contender, stay home when they win too- don't need ya. 3. Easy thing to say others are doing it too (staying home/lot of Cardinals fans), doesn't make it right 4. Need I remind you that we, as in Milwaukee, lost a team already in the 60's... your attitude speaks volumes why. 5. Band wagon hopper
-
Many people were in pink. It looked kind of red on tv. More Card fans than usual, but no where near Cub levels- 15% or so
-
Won one.... now let's get two.
-
Let's get one tonight!
-
When the seemingly impossible happens (losing a bunch straight in the midst of a pennant drive), maybe the only good thing to remember is that baseball is full of improbable possibilities....... Fiers is the best pitcher on our staff The Cubs look like world beaters after on pace for well over 100 losses The 69 Mets Kirk Gibson in 88 and his lame interviews in 14 after drilling hitters Here's my small reminder that baseball is full of surprises...... so let's get on the positive and simply believe another seemingly impossible thing can soon happen and that is to beat the Cardinals 4 games in Milwaukee - get out there and support!

Usually hear the same waiver explanations every August, but....... Really, how does it all work? Does each team get the same list of players (only 7 per day per team) or are some subtracted after a worse record team claims player first? Did lets say Axford's name even get to the Brewers after Pirates initially claimed him? Does this mystery system (electronic?) mlb uses take player A's name off better record teams or teams in the other league WHEN one team claims him or is the transaction announced at the same time for ALL teams, including the Pirates in this case ala the system like fantasy football waiver wires when making a claim? Do teams try to bunch its players together wither other teams waiver players( 21 players over a three day period to try and get many thru waivers) so other rivals are reluctant to put in too many claims for financial scares of actually getting TOO MANY claims? Does Melvin wait until the final day three of a three day window period to place a waiver claim for fear of a better possible claim to come on day one or two and possibly being stuck with another salary/ spot on team and fear of not getting the better player? Or simply, what strategy goes on here? I know most of the basic rules of waivers, but what are general managers' minds thinking/worrying about?

1. Draft includes ALL international MLB wannabees 2. Pool ALL tv $. Distribute back based on avg. attendance of each team' s home and away games. Yankees and Dodgers draw bigger crowds at home and away than most and should be paid back a bigger portion. 3. Hard floor and ceiling salary cap 4. SPEED UP game---pitch clock, pick off rules of only one throw to base second throw and runner must be out or runner given next base, mound visits by anyone limited, batters stay in box after non contact swings or takes during at bat, reliever 3 warmup pitches, signal 4 to intentionally walk someone, etc. 5. START WEEEKDAY NIGHT BREWERS HOMEGAMES AT 6:30 FOR THE AVG WORKING SLEEPER!
