Final: Huntsville 10 Pensacola 5 Welcome back Jason Rogers. Rogers, who missed 3 games and the All Star game with an upper body injury, powered the Stars past the Blue Wahoos on Saturday night. His performance help offset an off night from Stars starter Taylor Jungmann. For only the 2nd time all season, Jungmann didn't get a decision in a game he started. Taylor only worked 4 innings tonight, allowing 4 runs on 9 hits and 2 walks while striking out 3. It took Jungmann 79 pitchers, 42 strikes, to cover those 4 innings. Taylor did post a good 6-2 GO/FO ratio. Jungmann was backed up tonight by David Goforth. Goforth, who has been moved to the bullpen now, came into the game with a streak of 14 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball. He added 3 more tonight. Goforth (4-1, 2.81) picked up the win working 3 scoreless innings, allowing only 1 hit, 1 walk, and one hit batter while striking out 2. David also had a 5-0 GO/FO ratio and of his 33 pitches, 21 were for strikes. He continues to improve and impress. Lefty Brent Leach worked a scoreless 8th inning despite allowing 2 hits. Canton, Ohio's Eric Marzec worked the 9th. He allowed an unearned run on 2 hits while striking out 1. The error that led to the run was his own, a throwing error after taking a lined shot to the back. Eric stayed in the game and finished off the Blue Wahoos. Huntsville Box Score Jason Rogers's huge night led the Stars offense. Rogers ended the night going 4-5 with 3 runs scored, 3 home runs, and 6 RBI's. It was the first 3 home run game by a Stars player since Peter Zoccolillo accomplished it back in 2002. Rogers hadn't homered since May 27th before blasting 3 into the bay tonight. The 3 home runs gives him 13 on the season which puts him 1 behind Brock Kjeldgaard for the team lead and tied for 5th in the Southern League. The 6 RBI's gives him 59 on the season and that puts him on top in the Southern League. Nice game Bones! Rogers wasn't the only Stars hitter to have a strong night. The Stars knocked out 17 hits as every starter recorded a hit tonight. Second baseman Nick Shaw went 3-4 with a triple, 2 runs scored, an RBI, and a sacrifice. Chadwin Stang went 2-5 with 2 runs scored. He now has a modest 5 game hitting streak going. Mike Walker also went 2-5 with a double and a run scored. Shortstop Hector Gomez was 2-4, both hits being singles. Catcher Adam Weisenburger legged out his first triple on the season, scored a run, drove one in and drew a walk. Left fielder Eric Patterson was 1-3 with a walk, drove in a run, and stole a base. Rene Tosoni went 1-5 with a run scored and an RBI. Shea Vucinich had an at bat tonight as a pinch hitter and he also singled. Team RISP: 4-for-8. Team LOB: 5. Final: Huntsville 1 Pensacola 0 The first meeting of the 2013 season between the Huntsville Stars and Pensacola Blue Wahoos produced a good, old fashioned pitchers duel. Tonight, Drew Gagnon and 2 Stars relievers combined to shut out the Blue Wahoos 1-0. Gagnon (2-5, 5.67) worked the first 6 2/3 innings tonight, allowing 8 hits and 2 walks while striking out 3. Gagnon's strong outing tonight lowered his season ERA from 6.82 to 5.67. Gagnon threw 98 pitches, 58 for strikes and had a 9-3 ground out to fly out ratio. Drew was able to maintain his velocity throughout the game as he was low to mid 90's in the 7th. One of the newest stars, Brent Leach, came on to relieve Gagnon in the 7th. He finished the 7th and worked a scoreless 8th. He allowed just a walk over his 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. Greg Holle was brought on to close things out. He did just that, allowing a walk in a scoreless 9th to earn his 9th save on the season. This was Holle's 4th consecutive scoreless outing and the 3rd consecutive converted save in as many opportunities. Huntsville Box Score The Stars were outhit 8-4 but their offense produced the only run of the game. It came in the 1st inning on a Brock Kjeldgaard sacrifice fly. It was Kjeldgaard's 43rd RBI on the season. Brock didn't record a hit tonight, but did draw a walk to go along with his sacrifice fly. Third baseman Shea Vucinich led the Stars offense with 2 hits including a double. Chadwin Stang added a double and Eric Patterson singled for the Stars only other hits tonight. The Stars did draw 5 walks, 2 from Nick Shaw and one each from Rene Tosoni, Brock Kjeldgaard, and pitcher Drew Gagnon. The loss was his 10th on the season and the home runs allowed pushed his season total to 12, both tops in the Southern League. With the short start, the Stars bullpen was called on to soak up 5 innings today. Righty Eric Marzec was first up. He worked perfect 5th and 6th innings, striking out 2 and lowering his ERA to a sparkling 2.04. Arcenio Leon was brought in to work the 7th and 8th innings. Final: Huntsville 3 Birmingham 2 The question coming into tonight's game was how was David Goforth going to follow up his last start where he went 7 innings and allowed 2 hits in a shutout of the Tennessee Smokies? Well, by going 7 innings, allowing 2 hits and shutting out the Birmingham Barons of course! For the 2nd consecutive outing, David Goforth (3-1, 3.18) pitched 7 innings of shutout baseball. Tonight's shutout was a combined one with Brooks Hall. His last outing was a complete game 7 inning affair as it was part of a double header. Tonight, Goforth needed 101 pitches, 61 were strikes, in putting down the Barons. He posted a sparkling 11-2 ground out to fly out ratio. Only 1 Baron baserunner reached 2nd base tonight, that was in the 2nd inning when Brandon Short reached on a walk and stole 2nd. That was it. A truly dominant performance, in only his 4th AA start. Over his last 2 games, Goforth has lowered his ERA from 8.31 to the current 3.18. Keep it up! For his efforts tonight, Brooks Hall earned his first save on the season. He worked 2 scoreless innings, allowing only a walk while striking out 2. Huntsville Box Score The Stars needed a strong pitching performance because the Barons pitching was giving Huntsville hitters fits. Limited to 6 hits and 3 runs, the Stars made the most of their hits. Rene Tosoni stayed hot, giving the Stars a first inning lead with his 10th home run on the season. First baseman Mike Walker gave the Stars some needed insurance with a 2 run home run, also his 10th on the season, in the 7th. Third Baseman Joey Paciorek was the only Star with multiple hits tonight, knocking out 2 singles. Chadwin Stang and Nick Shaw each singled for the Stars as well. Since being promoted to Huntsville, Stang has played in 13 games. He's reached base in 12 of those 13 games and has hits in 9. The Stars didn't draw any walks tonight, but Brock Kjeldgaard reached on a HBP, and scored in front of Mike Walker on his home run. Huntsville Play By Play Enjoy the dominance from Goforth and Hall!! Here's the offensive highlights. Huntsville Bottom of the 1st Chadwin Stang strikes out swinging. Nick Shaw flies out to right fielder Trayce Thompson. Final: Birmingham 6 Huntsville 2 A costly 9th inning error opened the door for the Birmingham Barons to score 4 unearned runs in defeating the Huntsville Stars 6-2 on NASA night at The Joe. The Stars only got 2 innings out of starter Taylor Jungmann as he struggled with control. Jungmann was charged with 1 earned run allowed on 1 hit and a season high 6 walks while striking out 1 and throwing a wild pitch. Jungmann threw 62 pitches over those 2 innings, 30 for strikes. He also posted a 3-1 ground out to fly out ratio. Taylor ended up with a no decision tonight. With Jungmann's early exit, the Stars bullpen was asked to put in some overtime. First up was Frankie De La Cruz. De La Cruz worked the 3rd and 4th innings for the Stars. He allowed 1 earned run on 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 3. Next up was new Stars pitcher Brent Leach. Leach, who was just added to the Stars roster, pitched 2 scoreless innings, allowing 3 hits while striking out 1. Righty Casey Medlen was brought on to start the 7th. He worked scoreless 7th and 8th innings. Medlen was left in to begin the 9th, but was unable to finish it. A costly error by Nick Shaw led to the Barons scoring the 4 runs in the 9th to blow the game open. Medlen ended with a line of 2 2/3 innings, 4 runs, none earned on 2 hits, 4 walks and 2 strike outs. Prior to allowing a bases clearing double, Medlen and catcher Adam Weisenburger felt they were the victims of some poor calls by the home plate umpire. So much so, that Weisenburger ended up being tossed from the game. Arcenio Leon came on to get the last out in the 9th. Huntsville Box Score The Stars had 7 hits, drew 3 walks, and had a batter hit by a pitch, but could only push 2 runs across the plate. Right fielder Rene Tosoni was responsible for one of the runs scored. His 5th inning double drove in Nick Shaw, who had reached via base on balls. Tosoni added 2 singles to finish the night 3-4. The other Stars player with multiple hits was Shea Vucinich, who went 2-4 with 2 singles. Newly named All Star Adam Weisenburger and Mike Walker each singled for the Stars. Walker also drew a walk and drove in the Stars other run. Second baseman Nick Shaw drew 2 walks for the Stars. Huntsville Play By Play Clutch, 2 out single from Mike Walker to get the Stars on the board. Huntsville Bottom of the 3rd Chadwin Stang hit by pitch. Right hander David Goforth (2-1, 4.60) will look to build on his last start as he takes the mound for the Stars. Game time is scheduled for 6:43 Central with Stars Radio Broadcaster Alex Cohen kicking things off at 6:28 with the pregame show.

Final: Huntsville 8 Birmingham 6 The Huntsville Stars feel behind 3-0 in the first but were able to fight their way back to pull out an 8-6, come from behind win tonight at The Joe. Stars starting pitcher Ariel Pena struggled as Birmingham lead early on. Pena (5-7, 3.47) grinded his way through 6 innings, allowing 5 runs, all earned, on 7 hits and 3 walks while striking out 6. He allowed a home run, his league leading 13th and also uncorked a wild pitch. Pena threw 91 pitches, 62 for strikes and posted a 7-3 ground out to fly out ratio. Pena ended up with a no decision tonight as the Stars were able to overcome several deficits. Frankie De La Cruz (1-1, 2.63) worked the 7th and ended up earning the win in the process. De La Cruz worked 1 inning, allowing an unearned run on 1 hit and 2 walks. Righty Greg Holle worked the 8th and 9th to earn his team leading 8th save on the season. Holle allowed only 1 hit over his 2 innings of work while striking out 2 and posted a 3-1 GO/FO ratio. Despite his size, 6'-8", 240, Holle is more of a ground ball pitcher instead of a power thrower. Huntsville Box Score The Huntsville offense never gave up tonight, scoring 8 runs on 10 hits and 6 walks. Several Stars hitters came up big and timely tonight. They were led by Nick Shaw. Shaw was 3-5 with his 2nd home run. He scored once and drove in 1. Rene Tosoni, who was 1 for his last 20 coming into the game, went 2-4 including a 2 run home run in the 5th, which tied the game, at the time, 5-5. It was Tosoni's 9th homer on the season. He also drove in a run in the bottom of the first with a sacrifice fly to finish with 3 RBI's. Chadwin Stang also stayed hot, going 2-4 with a run scored and an RBI. He's 7-12 with 3 runs scored and 3 RBI's in his last 3 games. Catcher Adam Weisenburger came up clutch again tonight. His 2 out 2 run single in the bottom of the 7th proved to be the winning margin. The Stars also got a double from Joey Paciorek and a single from Hector Gomez. Left fielder Brock Kjeldgaard didn't record a hit but drew 2 walks. Gomez and Mike Walker also each drew a walk. The down side of the game tonight was first baseman Jason Rogers leaving the game in the top of the 3rd. He left with an upper body injury. Unknown just how severe at this time. Final: Huntsville 6 Tennessee 3 (8 innings) (Game 2) What started off as a pitchers duel got wild in the 7th and 8th as the Stars won a hard fought victory, sweeping their double header with the Tennessee Smokies Monday evening. a 1-1 tie going into the top of he 7th, the Stars scored 2 to take a 3-1 lead, only to see the Smokies come back and score 2 in the bottom of the 7th. The Smokies nearly won the game in the bottom of the 7th, but Kentrail Davis gunned down a runner at the plate to send it into extra innings. The Stars then scored 3 times in the top of the 8th and hung on to win the game, and in the process, the series with Tennessee. Righty Brooks Hall started the game for the Stars. Hall, making his 5th AA start, pitched 4 shutout innings for Huntsville. He gave up only 2 hits and didn't walk a batter while striking out 1. Hall threw 50 pitches, 36 for strikes and had a 4-2 GO/FO ratio. Kevin Shackelford was in line for his first AA win tonight. He came on to pitch after Hall exited. Shackelford worked 2 innings, allowing a run on 1 hit while striking out 2. Casey Medlen was brought on for the save in the bottom of the 7th. Medlen, who had only been scored on in 1 of his last 11 outings, struggled from the start. He fell behind the first batter he faced 3-0 before working back into the count, but surrendered a home run to Justin Bour. The Smokies tacked on another run to tie it thanks to the speed of Rubi Silva and a throwing error from catcher Joey Paciorek. After a walk and another error, the Smokies had runners on first and third with only 1 out. Pinch hitter Nate Samson hit a fly ball to left. Kentrail Davis caught it and turned it into a double play, getting the runner at the plate to put the game into extra innings. Bees edge Rattlers with late run Burlington takes game one of series with 7-6 decision By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 07/06/2013 10:46 PM ET BURLINGTON, IA - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers battled the Burlington Bees at Community Field through all nine innings on Saturday night. But, the Bees squeaked out an 8-7 victory on an early barrage of runs and a late rally that took advantage of some wildness of the part of the Rattlers pitchers. Burlington (30-51 overall, 4-12 second half) grabbed the lead with four runs in the bottom of the third inning as they collected six hits and sent ten men to the plate against Wisconsin starter Eric Semmelhack. Wendell Soto started the inning with a bunt single and went to second on a wild pitch. Riley Good singled to drive in Soto for the first run of the inning. A balk sent Good to second. A single by Anthony Bemboom put Good on third. A double by Andrew Ray drove in Good for a 2-0 lead. Semmelhack walked the next batter to load the bases. Exicardo Cayones drove in the third run of the inning with a sacrifice fly. Chance Ross made it 4-0 with an RBI single. The Rattlers (35-46, 6-10) stormed back to tie the game in the top of the fourth. The loaded the bases on a walk to Tyrone Taylor and singles by Mike Garza and Adam Giacalone. Max Walla drove in a pair of runs with a double. Tyler Roberts was next and his grounder to short got a pair of runners to score. The ground out was enough to get Giacalone home from third. The throwing error let Walla score from second to even the score 4-4. The Bees hit a pair of home runs off Semmelhack in the bottom of the fourth to retake the lead. Bemboom hit a line shot over the wall in right with one out to give the Bees a 5-4 lead. Wade Hinkle went the other way with two outs for a home run over the wall in left-center to put the Bees up 6-4. The Rattlers scored a run in the top of the fifth. Victor Roache singled with two outs. Mike Garza sent him home with a triple to right-center. Wisconsin tied the game in the top of the eighth inning. Walla singled with one out and Roberts blooped in a double to right field to put runners on second and third. Chris McFarland smacked a single off reliever Chris O'Grady. Walla scored as the ball trickled to the third base line. The Rattlers attempted a suicide squeeze with Roberts breaking from third, but it didn't work and the Bees escaped the eighth with the score tied. Burlington mounted a rally in the eighth on a leadoff single, a hit batsman, a sacrifice bunt, and an intentional walk against reliever Rodolfo Fernandez. Wisconsin went to the bullpen and brought in lefty Mike Strong to face Bemboom, a left-handed batter. But, Strong walked Bemboom on four pitches to force in the go ahead run. Taylor walked with one out in the top of the ninth inning. But, Bees closer Jairo Diaz retired the next two batters looking at strike three to finish the Rattlers. The series continues Sunday afternoon at Community Field. Tyler Wagner (7-6, 3.46) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Tyler DeLoach (1-2, 3.27) is set to start for Burlington. Final: Burlington 7 Wisconsin 6 The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers came up on the short end Saturday night against the Burlington Bees, falling 7-6 at Community Field. Righty Eric Semmelhack started for the Timber Rattlers and had a rough go of it. Semmelhack (1-4, 4.68) went 4 innings, giving up 6 runs, all earned on 9 hits and 2 walks while striking out 1. He also threw a wild pitch and committed a balk. 2 of the 9 hits were home runs, giving him 12 on the season, 2nd most in the Midwest League. He had a 4-4 ground out to fly out ratio. Cuban right hander Rodolfo Fernandez came on to work in the 5th. Fernandez worked 3 1/3 good innings. He was charged with 1 run on 3 hits, 1 walk and a HBP while striking out 2. Fernandez also had a 5-0 GO/FO ratio. Rodolfo ran into problems in the 8th. A single and a hit batter, then after a sacrifice bunt, an intention walk loaded the bases. Lefty Michael Strong was summoned from the bullpen. He walked the first batter he faced. The Timber Rattlers dugout must have felt like Strong was getting squeezed as hitting coach Dusty Rhodes was ejected after the walk. Strong beared down and retired the next 2 batters to get out of the inning. Unfortunately, the Timber Rattlers were behind and unable to score in the top of the 9th. Wisconsin Box Score Every Timber Rattler hitter reached base at least once tonight. Michael Garza, Adam Giacalone, and Max Walla each had 2 hits. Garza had a single and a triple, drove in a run and scored a run. Giacalone singled, doubled and scored a run. Max Walla also had a single and double. Walla also drove in 2 runs and scored twice. Sounds Dampened By Redbirds Nashville's Hainley Statia Goes Deep In 7-2 Loss MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds were unable to keep pace with the Memphis Redbirds Saturday night at AutoZone Park, held to five hits in the 7-2 loss by Nick Additon (6-4) and company. Related Content AUDIO: Hainley Statia's 5th-Inning Blast AUDIO: Hunter Morris Hits Sacrifice Fly Additon retired the first 14 Nashville batters in order before outfielder Hainley Statia touched the lefty for a home run to left field. The homer, Statia's second in as many games after not having one since July 30, 2011, pulled the Sounds to within two, trailing 3-1 in the fifth. The Redbirds pulled back out by three in the home half of the inning when Nashville shortstop Ozzie Chavez let a ground ball roll up his glove to squander what may have been an inning-ending double play. Instead, with runners on the corners and one out, the fielding error scored a run for Memphis. Memphis furthered its lead in the seventh inning, plating three runs against reliever Tim Dillard to make it 7-1. Three singles started the inning, with Adron Chambers' single pushing Greg Garcia across. Additon advanced both runners into scoring position with his second sac-bunt of the night and Thomas Pham hit a single into left field to add the second run. A ground out scored Chambers. Additon held Nashville to three hits across seven innings of work to pick up his sixth win of the season. The Sounds worked their second run off the lefty in the seventh when Hunter Morris lofted a fly ball to right field that scored Josh Prince on the sacrifice. Prince led off the inning with a double to left field. The Redbirds got on the board first on Jamie Romak's 18th home run of the season in the second inning. The shot to the left-field bluff was the eighth allowed by Sounds starter R.J. Seidel (1-4) and put the 'Birds up 1-0. Seidel walked Garcia with one out and the shortstop proceeded to steal two bags to line himself up for an easy jog to home plate on Chambers' sacrifice fly. Memphis' Kolten Wong added to the Redbirds' advantage with a solo home run clearing the right-field wall in the third inning. Seidel took the loss, finishing with four runs on three hits over 4 1/3 innings. He fanned four Redbirds and walked three. Dillard entered with one out and the bases loaded in the fifth inning and retired his first two to get Nashville out of the fifth-inning jam. After the sixth, Travis Webb and Rob Wooten pitched one scoreless frame each for Nashville. Robinzon Diaz, Ozzie Chavez and Scooter Gennett recorded the Sounds final three hits in the game. Gennett legged out an infield single in his final at-bat to extend his hit streak to 11 games. Diaz has successfully reached base in each game he has started for Nashville. The Sounds will conclude their series with the Redbirds on Sunday evening at AutoZone Park, looking to split the series. Throwing for Nashville will be RHP Hiram Burgos (1-3, 2.93) against lefty Tyler Lyons (3-1, 3.43). Baseball returns to Greer Stadium on Thursday, July 11 for a BURGER KING Throwback Thursday, where fans can enjoy $2 beer and select concession items.

Final: Memphis 7 Nashville 2 The Memphis Redbirds got strong pitching from starter Nick Additon and 2 relievers to knock off the Nashville Sounds 7-2 Saturday night in Memphis. Sounds starter R.J. Seidel (1-4, 5.94)struggled tonight. He only lasted 4 1/3 innings, giving up 4 runs, all earned on 3 hits and 3 walks while striking out 4. 2 of the 3 his Seidel allowed were home runs, bringing his Pacific Coast League total to 10 in 50 innings. Seidel threw 84 pitches, 52 for strikes and posted a 7-3 ground out to fly out ratio. His line could have been worse if not for Tim Dillard's work in the 5th. Dillard came on with the bases loaded and 1 out and was able to get a strike out and a ground out to get out of the inning. Unfortunately, the 6th was not kind to Tim. The Redbirds were able to score 3 runs on 4 hits to blow the game open. Dillard finished with a line of 1 2/3 innings, 3 runs, all earned, on 4 hits with 1 strike out and a 4-0 GO/FO ratio. 2 of the 4 hits were on ground balls, so his sinker was definitely working. The Sounds got a scoreless 8th inning from Travis Webb and Rob Wooten continued to push for a promotion to Milwaukee by working a scoreless 9th, throwing 8 pitches, all for strikes. Nashville Box Score The Sounds offense was limited to 5 hits and 2 runs tonight. Hainley Statia provided the biggest hit, a solo home run in the 5th. It was his 2nd home run on the season. Both Smokies runs scored on solo home runs. Jungmann threw 87 pitches, 57 for strikes and had another monster GO/FO ratio of 9-1. Jungmann's first pitch of the game was clocked at 93 tonight. Final: Tennessee 3 Huntsville 1 Stars starting pitcher Ariel Pena turned in a quality start but came away with the loss as Tennessee defeated Huntsville 3-1 Friday night in Kodak. Pena (5-7, 3.20) pitched 7 strong innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 6 hits and a hit batter, but no walks while striking out 7. One of the hits he allowed was a solo home run to Stars tormenter Arismendy Alcantara. Pena threw 99 pitches over those 7 innings, 68 for strikes. As control has been an issue for Pena throughout the season, this was great to see. Pena also had a 7-4 ground out to fly out ratio. Over Ariel's last 5 starts, 4 have been quality starts. In all 4 of those quality starts, he's taken the loss. Greg Holle pitched a scoreless 8th, allowing a hit, but having that runner cut down on a caught stealing. In the 2nd half of the season, the Stars have played 17 games. In those 17 games, they have scored a total of 49 runs (2.88 avg). Stars pitching has given up 93 runs over those 17 games (5.47 avg). Their record is 5-12. Huntsville Box Score The Stars offense have been in a real funk lately. They've been held to a grand total of 5 runs in their last 4 games. Final: Tennessee 4 Huntsville 1 Three Tennessee pitchers combined to hold the Huntsville Stars to 1 run on 4 hits in their 4-1 victory on Thursday evening. The Stars jumped out to an early 1-0 lead and starting pitcher Drew Gagnon was cruising through 5. But the Stars didn't get another hit after the 3rd inning and Gagnon fell apart in the 6th as the Smokies took a 3-1 lead. They tacked on an insurance run in the 8th to make it 4-1. Stars starter Drew Gagnon was off to a great start. He limited the Smokies to 2 hits over the first 5 innings. Things went downhill quickly in the 6th though. Gagnon was only able to record 1 out before exiting. For the game, Gagnon worked 5 1/3 innings, allowing 3 runs, all earned, on 6 hits and 2 walks while striking out 4. One of the hits allowed was a home run. Gagnon threw 77 pitches, 47 for strikes and had a 5-5 ground out to fly out ratio. Despite the struggles in the 6th, this was a very good outing for Drew. In his last couple starts, he's been much sharper. Casey Medlen was called on to get out of the 6th, which he did. Medlen then pitched a scoreless 7th. His line for the night was 1 2/3 innings, no runs, 1 hit, 1 walk and 3 strike outs. In 10 of his last 11 outings, Medlen has pitched scoreless relief. Arcenio Leon was brought on to work the 8th. Leon struggled a bit, allowing a run on 2 hits and a walk. Huntsville Box Score The Stars offense was held in check for the most part tonight, limited to 1 run on 4 hits and 2 walks. The Stars struck out 13 times. Third baseman Joey Paciorek was responsible for the Stars only run. Paciorek hit his first home run of the season in the 2nd. The was Huntsville's only extra base hit on the night. Jason Rogers, Nick Shaw, and Chadwin Stang each singled. Stang also stole his first base as a Huntsville Star. Brock Kjeldgaard and Shea Vucinich each drew a walk. Huntsville Play By Play Huntsville's run scored in the 2nd Huntsville Top of the 2nd Rene Tosoni strikes out swinging, catcher Rafael Lopez to first baseman Justin Bour. Final: Huntsville 2 Chattanooga 0 In the best pitching performance by a Huntsville pitcher this season, righty Andy Moye threw 8 1/3 innings of hitless baseball tonight leading the Stars to the 2-0 victory. Moye (4-9, 4.16) was in control all night. Stars radio broadcaster Alex Cohen noted Moye's success was his ability to spot all 3 of his pitches tonight in keeping the Lookouts off balance. Moye also had a little luck with a ball falling just foul and some help from his friends with first baseman Jason Rogers making a diving, over the shoulder catch in the 7th to keep the no hitter alive. So for Moye, 1 hit over 8 1/3 innings, 3 walks and 2 strike outs. 103 pitches tonight, 66 for strikes and a 7-9 ground out to fly out ratio. After Rafael Ynoa's single in the 9th, Kevin Shackelford was brought on to finish the game. He did just that, recording the final 2 outs in the 9th, including getting Dodger top prospect Joc Pederson to strike out, to record his first AA save. This is the 2nd time Andy Moye has been involved in a one hitter against the Lookouts this season. In his first start of the season, Moye threw 6 innings of one hit ball against Chattanooga. Greg Holle pitched a hitless 7th to close it out as this game was a 7 inning game as part of a double header. In that game, Joc Pederson lead off the game for Chattanooga with a home run. Moye and Holle mowed the Lookouts down after that. Fun Huntsville Stars no hitter info. Last Stars no hitter was last season against, the Chattanooga Lookouts. That was a 5 pitcher, 11 walk no hitter. Last Stars no hitter by a single pitcher was in 2008, authored by David Welch, against...the Chattanooga Lookouts. So, if there is going to be a no hitter thrown by a Stars pitcher, it'll probably be against the Lookouts. Huntsville Box Score The Stars needed Andy Moye to be on top of his game tonight because the Lookouts pitchers held the Stars to only 2 runs on 3 hits. One of the 3 hits was Brock Kjeldgaard's 14th home run on the season. Brock never seems to hit any wall scrapers, they always seem to be crushed. With 14 home runs, Kjeldgaard is tied for 2nd in the Southern League. Nick Shaw and Jason Rogers each singled in the 6th, leading to the Stars 2nd run. With 2 outs, Shaw singled, stole second, and scored on Rogers's single. Catcher Adam Weisenburger drew a walk and second baseman Shea Vucinich was hit by a pitch to reach base for Huntsville. Huntsville Play By Play A fun game log to review tonight. A lot of 1-2-3 innings on both sides. Brock goes deep. Huntsville Bottom of the 2nd Pitching Change: Steve Smith replaces Ross Stripling, batting 9th. Rene Tosoni grounds out to first baseman Angelo Songco. Brock Kjeldgaard homers (14) on a fly ball to left field. Mike Walker grounds out, shortstop Miguel Rojas to first baseman Angelo Songco. Shea Vucinich hit by pitch. Adam Weisenburger lines out to shortstop Miguel Rojas. The top of the 9th Chattanooga Top of the 9th Offensive Substitution: Pinch-hitter Brian Cavazos-Galvez replaces Greg Infante. Brian Cavazos-Galvez pops out to third baseman Mike Walker. Rafael Ynoa singles on a ground ball to center fielder Chadwin Stang. GRRRR!!! Pitching Change: Kevin Shackelford replaces Andy Moye, batting 9th. With Joc Pederson batting, wild pitch by Kevin Shackelford, Rafael Ynoa to 2nd. Joc Pederson strikes out swinging. Osvaldo Martinez walks. Angelo Songco grounds out, second baseman Shea Vucinich to first baseman Jason Rogers. Final: Huntsville 9 Chattanooga 5 Somewhat following the script from yesterday, the Stars were no hit through the first 5 innings again tonight before exploding for 9 runs to coast to a 9-5 victory at The Joe. Stars starting pitcher David Goforth turned in a much stronger outing than his previous one. Goforth (1-1, 8.31) was able to work 6 innings tonight. He allowed 4 runs on 7 hits and 3 walks while striking out 7. Goforth was clocked at 98 tonight by the Stars Videographer and was consistently 93-95. David threw 106 pitches, 68 for strikes and recorded a 5-3 ground out to fly out ratio. All 4 runs allowed, were scored with 2 outs. The Stars also got 3 solid innings from their bullpen. Arcenio Leon pitched 2 innings tonight, allowing an unearned run on 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out 1. Casey Medlen worked a perfect 9th, recording 2 strike outs. Odd little fact. Right now, the Stars are carrying 13 pitchers on their roster. None are left handed. Brian Garman is on the disabled list and Alan Williams is on the restricted list. If my figuring is correct, Williams would be scheduled to return on 7/19. Huntsville Box Score Despite being no hit for the first 5 innings, every stars position player, including both pinch hitters, reached base tonight. Shea Vucinich continued to mash the ball, going 2-4 with 4 RBI's, 3 scoring on a 2 out bases loaded double in the 6th. Catcher Adam Weisenburger, who has the most hits by a catcher in the Southern League, added another one with a 2 out 2 run double in the 6th as well. Mike Walker had the only other extra base hit tonight, a double to lead off the 6th, and break up the no hitter. Both Jason Rogers and Rene Tosoni each reached base 3 times, without recording a hit. Rogers walked 3 times and Tosoni walked twice and was hit by a pitch. Chadwin Stang and Kentrail Davis each singled and drew a walk. Nick Shaw had the other hit for Huntsville tonight and Hector Gomez and Shawn Zarraga each drew a walk. Huntsville Play By Play The Stars scored 6 in the 6th, 5 after two were out.
