  1. But he's the closer? He is a closer and if he pulled him he wouldn't be a closer. Closer!
  2. Instead of one decent shortstop, they have gone with a mass of mediocrity crapocity. fixed.
  3. I think many had hoped/envisioned Gomez becoming our 4th best hitter in the lineup...
  4. J.J. Hardy 8/11/2009 --- avg. 229 / slg .367 / obp .300 Casey 6/28/2011 --- avg .227 / slg .316 / obp .280
  5. Heck, it's probably more likely that McGehee moves up in the lineup than down. I have absolutely no idea if that was sarcasm or not.
  6. everyday I promise not to get annoyed. Then I see Hart 6th and McGehee 5th...and I become annoyed. My own fault, obviously, since I know nothing about what a 5th hitter looks like.
  7. My friend from Lincoln said it's pronounced Meth-zuri. This should help you.
  8. Would it have been treated differently if mcdowell had made a racist remark instead of a homophobic remark?
  9. I just picked up The Last Days of Old Beijing. Hope it turns out as good as it looks. Actually, I'm looking for some suggestions. I'm looking for some books on Taiwan since I'll be there in a few weeks. Particularly I'd like a good history book (not the 600+ page kind since I'm limited on time) or a travelogue, daily life kind of book.
  10. Hopefully some reporter asks Cal the stock question on how he is handling his first trip to the final four!!
  11. Perhaps they play some of their regular season games. I have little doubt that they could fill some stadiums in CA for few days since there happens to be a few people with connections to Japan there and that's beside the whole raising money or novelty angle.
  12. Heard an interesting, not neccesarily serious, plea on NPR this morning. Basically, they noted that Fullcast Stadium has suffered damage and they wondered why doesn't MLB bring those guys over here for a few weeks fill some stadiums and raise some money. I liked it! It's probably a logistical impossibility but, hey, it's wonderful to think about. Sendai's my team since I lived there for years and I have been to a number of games. I've heard no accounts of the actual stadium but it's well away from the coast so would not have been hit by the tsunami. I'm just curious what kind of reception an idea like this would get. Taking aside the NPB season and stadium problems here, I think they could fill stadiums in CA, NY, and maybe some others for the idea of seeing the team and raising some money. Either way I'd sure love to see MLB use this an opportunity to create unity amongst MLB and NPB. I say bring the boys over...and slip Iwakuma a contract for the Brewers amongst the autograph seekers!
  13. That book is at the top of my list. I can't resist North Korea and the dear leader. My offer to you is...after you finish the book...I will let you ship it to me at your expense!Honestly, the reviews looked pretty good and it sounded very interesting.
  14. re: Japanese books. Don't know where you live but there is a Mitsuwa Marketplace in Arlington Heights. They have a decent book store in there (can't remember the name). There is also a hidden book/video shop in an office park just behind Mitsuwa. Otherwise...CA has a number of Book-off's if you are ever out that way. I generally get annoyed at book stores here because I know how much it should cost...over there.
  15. I'd recommend Wild Grass by Ian Johnson. Three stories about change in modern China. One about some peasants trying to sue the government, one about hutong's being destroyed in Beijing, and another about falun gong. Very interesting read. If anyone has read Peter Hessler this very similar. In fact, the writer seems to be a friend of his.
  16. I just read When Heaven and Earth Changed Places by Le Ly Hayslip. Interesting memoir about growing up in Vietnam during the American War. Reminded me of a very solid book called First They Killed My Father about a girl growing up in Cambodia and the Khmer Rouge.
  17. Flosses, Murakami does rock. I don't think Norwegian Wood is out in the US but I haven't heard good things from Japan thus far. I'll still give it a whirl sometime though. I'm looking forward to his new book also. Although, the Japanese have this weird way of taking novels and breaking them up into multiple books. (They do this with many Western novels) I'm gonna have to get some info from you since I'm gonna be passin through Taipei for a few days this spring.
  18. I always thought the main cause of homelessness was not having a home!
  19. Flosses, I'd be interested to hear your take on the golden pavilion once you finish. I've read about the book a few times and its general theme, and seen the pavilion, but never gotten around to reading it. To the list in generalI've read a number of Haruki Murakami books lately. I don't read fiction but I do read him. He's good. The Wind Up Bird ChroniclesKafka on the ShoreAfter DarkNorwegian WoodWhat I talk About When I Talk About Running
  20. Sweet. It's been a bit of a personal quest to convince people I know to watch it. I really should be getting some kick backs from Korea.Hope you enjoy!
  21. Mongol. Really good film about Genghis Kahn's childhood. Taegukgi (Brotherhood). Probably the best war movie I've ever seen.
  22. I just finished The Secret History of the Mongol Queen's. It is Jack Weatherford's wonderful follow up to Genghis Kahn and the Making of the Modern World.
  23. I'm really hoping for Bobby. I was in Japan when he returned to Chiba Lotte and it really was impressive how he turned that franchise around(for the 2nd time). His commitment to Chiba, and Japan, was impressive. There are many similarities between Milwaukee and Chiba and I think he would be an excellent fit. Besides, I want a can of Bobby-beer!
  24. I'm for Bobby!I've been a fan of his for a long time. The job he did in Japan was amazing. It was huge mistake for his team, and the league, to let him go. He was a tremendous asset to all of Japanese baseball. I think the way he throws himself into the position is exactly what Mil. needs and will make for a successful combination.
  25. Any news? Uecker and baseball, it's just not summer without 'em!
