Berkman gets classier

Love the thread title.

If they're planning on playing him every day in RF, I don't think he lasts the entire season, but he's a guy that could be pretty easily platooned (splits are much better as a LHB than as a RHB) and would definitely be a scary late-inning pinch-hitter. Can't blame him for wanting to return to a familiar division, but it'll definitely be weird seeing him in red and white.

I'll be very surprised if Berkman can stay healthy enough playing the OF to warrant $8M. I think his bat will be better than last season, but I also don't think he's going to play more than 120 games or so.

If they let Berkman play 140 games in the outfield I am more than okay with this move.

Exactly. I can't remember who plays center for them (Rasmus?) but if they have Holliday and Berkman manning the corner spots?? Yikes. And he is really slowing down with the bat.

Alfonso Soriano, Carlos Lee, and Ryan Braun will have company as terrible left fielders in the Central.

It's starting to become the division's calling card. Awesome first basemen, terrible left field defense.

Something else I forgot: in addition to this brilliant defensive upgrade, the Cardinals are also going to upgrading their infield defense, swapping Brendan Ryan out for the stone-handed Ryan Theriot. This is delightful!

Depending how the offseason goes, Carlos could end up at 1B in Houston, to make the collective defense of the NL Central LFs a bit less laughable. He played there a few times a week during the last 2 months of last year.

As a Brewer fan, I couldn't be happier with this deal. What a waste of money for the Cards.
I gotta say, I'm loving watching the Cards lock up money in the players they're locking it up on.

Couple that with Pujols and his 30 million dollar contract upcoming, and TLR's....stunning dislike for Colby Rasmus(hopefully they can trade him over for another loogy that TLR seems to love so much) and they just don't seem to have the same leadership they had with Jocketty.

Holliday's been a good defender for years, Rasmus is a decent CF defender, so I don't see how bad that OF is.

I don't know if you can say Hollidays defense is good. He's slow, so he may field balls well that he gets too. He gets to a lot less balls. Same thing is going to be true for Berkman. Rasmus (Assuming he stays a Card) is going to have to do a lot of running to make up for their shortfalls.

Rasmus won't have to do much running. He will probably get benched by LaRussa again.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.
