Someone explain to me what has happened with Joey Ortiz. Is it at all possible that with Pratt right behind him for the last 2 seasons he was constantly pressing and the minute that Pratt got called up and they basically told him it’s Pratt’s job now, he loosened up and relaxed and stopped worrying about it?

We need to something as a team about our challenges, but MLB needs to do something about their ABS challenge system, too. They are that bad, they miss enough calls, that 2 per game isn’t reasonable. They can be wrong all game and it’s all good. If we’re wrong twice, we pay for it.

Not sure. Didn’t hear an explanation. I think he got the hand in there but it was close. Yelich should have been screaming at him to touch the plate the moment the ball popped out. Bauers didn’t know at first.

Yup, it was the right call regardless of result. The throw was perfect. Raleigh is having a season to forget.

Here’s the thing, it should not matter. Unless it is an egregiously awful miss that has no chance of not being overturned, you have absolutely zero reason to challenge in the 1st inning with 2 out, a man on 3rd, on a 2-0 count. Big risk for likely no reward.

Do we address our challenge habits with our catchers? Establish any guidelines or protocols? No? Just the Wild West out there?

The White Sox catcher (Jake Rogers) passes on challenging a ball to Bregman that was a strike (he would have ended up striking out), challenges the very next pitch that was a ball, so they’re out of challenges, and then Ball 4 to Happ was actually strike 3 which leads to the tying run. Absolutely infuriating! Nice work Rogers! -
I hate this kind of thing and maybe it helps explain why we get so Charmin soft in crunch time. You have an ascending edge rusher on your team being aggressive and just bull rushes Belton into Love. He doesn’t hit Love himself. He hits Belton into Love. Do you get in the face of your young tackle for not doing his job and allowing that to happen? No, let’s dress down the guy who actually brought it and tell him we don’t tolerate that kind of aggressive play.

Also not for nothing and probably not super fair given the amount of playing time he’s gotten but Lockridge has been absolutely dreadful since his return. 1 for 12 with 7 strikeouts. So it’s not like he’s really been making a hard case for staying when given the chance.

I am not saying this isn’t a possible choice I just don’t see any real argument for it unless the argument is that they don’t want to see Lara reduced to Lockridge level playing time, but it’s not like Lara isn’t at least worthy of splitting time with Frelick. Another factor to keep in mind is that September is 2 weeks away and then they can carry an extra bench player. So they may just stall things til then unless they have a different player with a specific skillset they they are planning to bring up.
