  1. LaPorta was reportedly a pretty good defensive first baseman in college, no?
  2. He doesn't know anyone from Bielefeld.
  3. If you were going to move Gamel, wouldn't you rather him learn to play right field, where he'd maximize his value? If you do that, you can then move LaPorta to first, and you still have one OF and one 1B, only you've better matched the prospect's defensive capabilities to his position.
  4. Gamel made BA's Daily Dish yesterday as a result of his 5-5 game on Sunday:
  5. I think your idea has merit, but Gillespie and Hart aren't really similar players. Gillespie isn't nearly as fast as Hart, and is a mini-LaPorta in terms of plate approach, while Hart is much more of a "pure hitter".
  6. Gamel and LaPorta are precisely the two players most likely to be traded (though perhaps not together). Who did you think the Brewers were going to use to acquire a Sabathia-level talent?
  7. Odorizzi said he was going to Arizona for a few weeks (he'll report on July 1st) before heading to Helena.
  8. Hopefully Komatsu gets that chance soon. I think he's easily one of the 50 best prospects in the system.
  9. Those three dropping off the list hurt for me. I can't say you are wrong - but I had (still have) hopes. Well, Scarpetta is in an entirely different boat than the other two. He'll only go up, and is similar to Nieves in that he's really a 2nd/3rd round-type talent.
  10. Actually, I asked him, and he's not a big fan. Does that mean we have to stop calling him that?
  11. Courtesy of a friend in Helena: Evan Frederickson just got promoted to West Virginia.
  12. I was literally just going to post this, along with the response below, that it was too bad about how few position players there are in Helena. He's really looking like he could use some more advanced competition.
  13. Anyone know why Anundsen left the game after 2.7 innings?
  14. BB, I talked to Decker a couple days ago, and he said that he got a phone call from his scout, but not from anyone else (no bonus offer). He was pretty psyched about trying to win back the Axe next football season.
  15. Nice game for Lorenzo Cain so far, with a homer and double. He's gotta be praying hard for the Sabathia trade to go through so he can get moved up to Huntsville where he belongs.
  16. Has Wooten officially signed yet? The Canadian Press says he has, and so does KFFL, via USA Today.
  17. I wonder how many errors Escobar has saved him on errant throws.
  18. How about Josh Romanski? 3-3 with a double and 2 runs scored.
  19. The uptick in Gindl's walk rate has been great to see, too.
  20. Best game of his short pro career for Arias; nice to see.
  21. MH, Yeah, I asked him, but he wasn't interested. Too bad, sounds like there's an interesting story there.
  22. Apparently, the Brewers considered drafting Kenny Moreland (MiLB.com page), a RHP from Christopher Newport University (VA). Figured I'd mentioned it for posterity in case he goes Mike Piazza on us.
  23. Robbie Wooley is now on the Alexandria Aces of the independent United League. Robbie Wooley, a five-year veteran signed by the Aces on Wednesday, made his Alexandria debut as Wednesday's starter but didn't last long. A former sixth-round draft pick out of high school by the Milwaukee Brewers, Wooley struggled in his first start of the season. After spending four years in the Brewers organization and last season split between independent teams Southern Illinois of the Frontier League and Sioux City of the American Association, Wooley threw his first pitch of 2008 on Wednesday. After a throwing error, two wild pitches, a hit batsman and a general lack of control, Wooley was pulled after getting just two outs - the shortest start of his career. EDIT: Link
