  1. I just talked to 39th-round OF Eric Decker (yes, that Eric Decker) from the U of M, and as expected, he's not going to sign, instead opting to return to Minnesota and fail to win back the Axe again.
  2. I'm not sure exactly. They maintain top 25 and top 150 lists, but the latter hasn't been updated since February (neither Brantley nor Salome was on it).
  3. Will Inman and unsigned 2005 draftee Jake Arrieta also made it.
  4. Project Prospect has Brantley at #109 and Salome at #127.
  5. Shawn Zarraga having a nice day: 2-2 with 2 doubles, a walk, and 3 RBI.
  6. Disastrous 8th for WV. Started ahead 7-4, ended behind 8-7.
  7. I think everyone will enjoy this picture: http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/12288/jake_odorizzi.jpg
  8. The AZL Mariners' pitcher is named Ariel Alcantara, and he's from the same city as Izzy Alcantara. I wonder if they're related.
  9. I like the idea of Ramlow starting. There's a lot of potential in that stringbean frame.
  10. Toby, Romanski is now listed on the Helena roster.
  11. I just talked to 44th-round RHP Kaleb Herren from North Central Texas CC, and he said that he was very keen on signing, but the Brewers were going to treat him as a mini-DFE. They were apparently going to come out and watch him pitch last week, but something came up. They're going to observe him a few times throughout the summer and, presumably, sign him if they like what they see. But anyway, he's all for going pro.
  12. 19th-round RHP Blake Billings said that he hopes to sign by next week. His signing is currently being held up by Seth Lintz, who has to sign before Billings can (I'm not entirely sure why--they share the same scout, and Billings said the picks had to sign in "chronological order".). Before Lintz can sign, he has to take a physical in Milwaukee, and he can't do that until the doctor has an open time, which is next week.
  13. Yeah, it's his ACL. He got sent back to Maryvale for surgery and rehab.
  14. Quick updates on the three unsigned, non-Brett Lawrie Canadian draftees, whose signing statuses are, like Lawrie's, complicated by the World Junior Championships: 23rd-round OF Marcus Knecht from St. Michael's College HS (ON) is going to play in the Worlds* and talk to the Brewers after that. He said he would need around $450K to sign him away from Oklahoma State. He was expecting to go in or around the 7th round, but sent teams an email two days before the draft telling him he was going to school and not to draft him. 40th-round LHP Nick Fogarty from Thornlea SS (ON) is most likely not going to play in the Worlds, but probably isn't going to sign, either. He didn't specify what the Brewers had offered him, but said neither the round nor the money were what he was looking for. 45th-round 2B James Kottaras from Milliken HS (ON) is, like Knecht, going to talk to the Brewers again after the Worlds*. He said he told the team he wanted $150K, but would consider signing at $125K. He referenced fellow Canadian high schooler Michael Crouse, who got $150K in the 16th round from the Blue Jays. Neither Knecht nor Kottaras sounded very optimistic about signing. *The final 18-man roster isn't set yet, but they seemed pretty sure they would make it.
  15. 38th-round catcher Mike Roberts from VMI confirmed that he signed today. I'll have an interview with him up on Brew Crew Ball tomorrow.
  16. Scarpetta is still rehabbing, he said July was the target return date for game action. I'd imagine that as a polished college pitcher, Romanski is headed for Helena.
  17. A http://www.canada.com/theprovince/news/story.html?id=bcbf64d1-3a70-4b69-9a95-371bb9cac763'>short article on Brett Lawrie, but featuring a very GQ photo: http://a123.g.akamai.net/f/123/12465/1d/media.canada.com/idl/vapr/20080622/148118-50173.jpg
  18. Haha, thanks MH. I appreciate the continued linkage. As to you question earlier, I pretty much do the interviews however they want, whatever's most convenient for them, but I really try not to do it over email. It just doesn't read like a conversation then. In more important news, Tom H also speculates that Lawrie might not get signed for awhile:
  19. Plus Wooten and Luetge, as soon as the CWS is over.
  20. Huh, so I guess Rolando Pascual hasn't figured it out yet...
  21. Looks like you're missing a good comeback, pogo; the Stars were down 5-1, but now have a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the 7th.
  22. Rough start for Amaury Rivas: 5 runs on 4 hits and 4 walks in two innings.
  23. MH, I forwarded you an email from the Mets' GM confirming it's the Faulkner Austin Adams.
