  1. Adalberto Mondesi to the Royals for $2M. Wonder if we'll ever see the Brewers drop that kind of coin on an international free agent.
  2. Final: Huntsville 5, @Birmingham 2 Huntsville box scoreWily Peralta tossed seven scoreless innings, striking out four, walking three, hitting a batter, and allowing four hits. Not exactly dominant, but we'll take it. 59 of his 97 pitches were strikes, so he could certainly do better in that department. Erik Komatsu and Brock Kjeldgaard each had two hits, accounting for two thirds of the Stars' overall total. One of Komatsu's was a double, and he also walked. Lee Haydel, 0-5, remains mired in his terrible July slump, and Khris Davis was 0-4 with a walk and three strikeouts. Santo Manzanillo again walked a tightrope in the 8th, walking two batters and striking out none but getting out of the inning unscathed. Rob Wooten had a tough 9th, almost pitching the Barons back into the game by allowed two runs on three hits. Peralta picked off another runner; I don't actually know anything about his move, or even his pickoff totals, but he certainly seems to have a good one for a righty. The Barons left their starter, Nevin Griffith, in to throw 103 pitches in just 3.1 innings; he walked eight. I don't know anything about Griffith, but it says here that he was a second-round pick in 2007 and is just 22--not sure that's the kind of guy you want to leave in to take his lumps in that fashion. 3. Final: Brevard County 8, @Charlotte 6 Brevard County box scoreA torrent of hits, 15 of them, carried the Manatees to victory. Scooter Gennett and Hunter Morris had three each, while Kentrail Davis, D'Vontrey Richardson, Shea Vucinich, and Josh Prince each rang up two. Gennett and Davis each tripled. Scott Krieger homered. D'Vo posted multiple hits for the 7th time in his last 10 games; because he can't do anything good without also doing something bad, he was also caught stealing for the 11th time and committed a throwing error. Prince was hit with two errors, one fielding, one throwing. Hiram Burgos allowed all six Charlotte runs in 4.2 frames; Jon Pokorny did a nice job quieting things down, tossing 3.1 scoreless innings of relief.Brevard County play-by-play Charlotte put the tying runs in scoring position in the 9th off Bradley Blanks: Charlotte Bottom of the 9thPitcher Change: Bradley Blanks replaces Jonathan Pokorny.Tyler Bortnick reaches on throwing error by shortstop Josh Prince.Mark Thomas singles on a ground ball to shortstop Josh Prince. 5. Final: @Nashville 8, Iowa 3 Nashville box scoreEven though they're just "September call-up material", both Taylor Green and Mat Gamel keep on keepin' on, collecting their 15th and 20th homers, respectively. Brandon Boggs joined them in playing long-ball. Green also had a single and a sac fly. Caleb Gindl was on twice with a single and a walk. Logan Schafer was 1-4. Josh Butler pitched pretty well after leaving his last start when he was hit on the leg with a line drive: 6 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 1 HR, 11/4 GO/FO, 98 pitches, 57 strikes. He's been surprisingly effective over the last month, with the peripherals to back it up. Mike McClendon stranded the bases loaded in the 8th and pitched a scoreless 9th for the save. Nashville play-by-playThe score was 6-3 when McClendon was called on: Iowa Top of the 8thBrett Jackson singles on a bunt ground ball to third baseman Mat Gamel.DJ LeMahieu singles on a ground ball to second baseman Taylor Green. 6. Final: Wisconsin 6, @Great Lakes 3 Rattlers beat Loons, take two of three in Great LakesChris Mehring/Wisconsin Timber Ratters MIDLAND, MI – The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers closed out regular season play against the Midwest League’s Eastern Division with a solid 6-3 win over the Great Lakes Loons Monday night at Dow Diamond. Reggie Keen collected three hits and a key outfield assist as Matt Miller allowed one run over six innings to lead the Rattlers to the win. Miller recorded the first two outs of the first inning. But, back-to-back walks on close pitches for ball four put two runners on base. Chris Jacobs singled to right to drive in the run to give Great Lakes (57-42 overall, 18-12 second half) a 1-0 lead. Wisconsin (51-49, 13-17) answered in the top of the third inning. Keen singled in Joey Paciorek to tie the game 1-1. The Rattlers took the lead in the top of the fifth. Mike Brownstein singled to start the inning. Keen bunted up the first base line and Loons pitcher Greg Wilborn threw wildly to first. The play was ruled a sacrifice bunt and an error on the throw as Brownstein took third base. Keen would steal second to get into scoring position. Nick Shaw sent both runners home with a single to left for a 3-1 lead. In the sixth, Paciorek doubled off the wall in left field to send Chad Stang home from first. Paciorek took third on the play at the plate. Brownstein’s sacrifice fly send Paciorek home for a 5-1 lead. Mike Walker picked up his 71st RBI of the season with a two-out double in the top of the seventh and the Rattlers were up 6-1. Miller tossed six innings, allowed one run, and scattered six hits and four walks. The Loons got a run in the bottom of the seventh off Brian Garman. Jacobs singled to center with runners on the corners and one out. The runner from third scored, but runner from first challenged the arm of Keen. The Rattlers center fielder threw out the runner at third by a wide margin. It was his thirteenth outfield assist of the season and the 38th of the year by a Rattlers outfielder. That was fortunate. The next batter doubled to put runners at second and third. Adrian Rosario came on and got the final out of the inning when TJ Mittelstaedt made a diving catch on a sinking line drive. Wisconsin carried the 6-2 lead into the bottom of the ninth inning. Eric Marzec gave up a leadoff homer to Jesse Bosnik and walked Nick Akins to start the inning. But, Marzec bounced back with a strikeout of Jacobs and got Jon Garcia to ground into a game-ending 6-4-3 double play to secure the victory. The Timber Rattlers are off on Tuesday. They return to action on Wednesday at Alliant Energy Field in Clinton, Iowa against the LumbkerKings. Maverick Lasker (1-3, 5.53) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin. Nate Reed (2-3, 3.86) is set to start for Clinton. Game time is 7:00pm. Tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:40pm. Wisconsin box scoreMiller fanned four and, of course, hit a batter. He posted an 8/4 GO/FO and threw 90 pitches and 53 strikes. Is ~100 excellent plate appearances and a new position enough to get Paciorek a spot near the bottom of my Power 50 ballot? I don't think so, but it's something I'm wrestling with at the moment. Keen's steal was his 32nd of the year. Nick Ramirez did not arrive in time to take part in the game. Wisconsin play-by-playThe Rattlers did answer in the top of the 3rd but could have done so much more loudly: Wisconsin Top of the 3rdJoseph Paciorek singles on a ground ball to right fielder Jonathan Garcia.Mike Brownstein out on a sacrifice bunt to first baseman Chris Jacobs. 7. Final: Brevard County 8, @Charlotte 7 Brevard County box scoreBC overcame a poor start by Tyler Thornburg (4.2 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 4 BB, 1 HBP, 4 K, 1 HR) to win. Josh Prince went off with the bat, driving in five runs on his third homer of the year plus a double and a walk. D'Vontrey Richardson stayed hot with three hits; can you believe he's hitting .287? Prince swiped his 17th bag and D'Vo his ninth, which would have brought his success rate up to an even 50%...had he not also been caught stealing (well, first he was picked off, but it still goes as a CS). Oh, D'Vo. 8. Final: DSL Brewers 14, @DSL Mariners 9 DSL Brewers box score The Cerveceritos have owed the Marineritos this one for awhile. They never trailed after taking a 4-2 lead in the 4th, but they were hounded relentlessly, needing five runs in the last two innings to put the game away. Nice to see Milton Gomez again, even if it was just for 1.1 innings and he allowed two runs while failing to strike out a batter. Carlos Sosa was the only Cervecerito to pitch well, finishing the game with 1.2 scoreless frames. The massive (6'6", 234#) 19-year-old righty now has a 24/4 K/BB in 15.1 IP this year. I hope he throws as hard as his frame and strikeout rate suggest. Raul Mondesi was the hitting star, busting out for four hits, including his third homer. Juan de Leon also homered, and Francisco Castillo followed up his four-hit game on the 22nd with three more hits and two walks today. That'll bring those slash lines up a little. Esthervin Matos had a hit, a stolen base, and a Rubio--that is, he was hit by a pitch twice. Speaking of Elvis Rubio, he was 1-3 after taking over for Yonki Hernandez, and also picked up two outfield assists. Orlando Arcia was quietly productive with a single, sacrifice fly, walk, and a HBP. DSL Brewers play-by-play We'll keep an eye on Hernandez: DSL Brewers Top of the 4th Dionis Hinojosa grounds out, shortstop Ketel Marte to first baseman Axel Wel. Juan De Leon homers (1) on a fly ball to center field. Raul Mondesi reaches on throwing error by pitcher Gregorio Aquino. Raul Mondesi to 2nd. Orlando Arcia flies out to center fielder Janelfry Zorrilla. DSL Mariners Bottom of the 4th Defensive Substitution: Elvis Rubio replaces center fielder Yonki Hernandez, batting 1st, playing left field.
  9. Final: Chattanooga 4, @Huntsville 2 Huntsville box scoreCody Scarpetta was pretty blah (5 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K), but it was the two solo homers off Lucas Luetge in the 7th that provided the final margin. Santo Manzanillo rediscovered his strikeout stuff, fanning two in a scoreless inning, and Rob Wooten did the same. After tying BC's home run mark for a season in half of one, Brock Kjeldgaard finally got on the board at Huntsville with a two-run shot that provided the Stars' only offense on the day--they had three hits. Martin Maldonado did draw two walks, which is pretty unusual for him. Huntsville play-by-playA one-out sac bunt with the pitcher up next? Sure, I buy that: Chattanooga Top of the 4thTravis Denker doubles (3) on a line drive to left fielder Lee Haydel.Jaime Pedroza flies out to right fielder Brock Kjeldgaard. 10. Final: Iowa 3, @Nashville 1 Sounds End Win Streak With 3-1 Loss To CubsNashville Sounds NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds snapped a season-best six-game winning streak with a 3-1 loss to the division-rival Iowa Cubs on Sunday night at Greer Stadium. Iowa starter Nick Struck (1-3) tossed his best pitching performance of the season for his first Triple-A victory. The 21-year-old surrendered just one run on seven hits in a season-high seven innings pitched with 79 pitches. John Gaub earned his fifth save with a scoreless ninth. Before the defeat this evening, Nashville (49-53) also had won a streak of eight consecutive games against Iowa, the longest win streak against a single opponent since 2009. Logan Schafer, Jordan Brown, and Taylor Green each had two hits for Nashville. Coming into the game leading the PCL with 31 hits in July, outfielder Caleb Gindl went 0-for-4 to snap his nine-game hitting streak, the longest active streak on the club. Iowa catcher Welington Castillo uncorked his 15th homer of the season in the top of the second inning to give the Cubs a 1-0 lead, a solo shot over the left field wall. Cubs top prospect Brett Jackson made it 2-0 in the next inning after crushing a solo homer to center field for his first Triple-A long ball. The Cubs added their final run in the fifth for a 3-0 advantage. Struck helped his own cause with a leadoff single, and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. After Zack Segovia came into the contest to relieve starter Chase Wright, third baseman DJ LeMahieu singled to left field to move Struck to third, but as Brown committed a fielding error, Struck came home to score. Nashville scored their only run in the bottom of the sixth. Schafer hit a one-out double off the center field wall and scored as Brown lined a hard-hit single off the right field wall. Schafer's two-bagger was Nashville's only hit for extra bases and also extended the Sounds' extra-base streak to 30 straight games since June 22. In his first start with the Sounds since being re-signed, Wright (5-6) took the loss after allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks in 4 ½ innings. The Sounds' bullpen has not allowed an earned run in their last 18.0 innings of work, dating back six games. Segovia began with 2 1/3 scoreless innings while allowing his only inherited runner to score. Daniel Herrera added 1 1/3 shutout innings. Jim Henderson closed out the game with a scoreless frame. The Sounds and Cubs wrap of their four-game series with tomorrow's 7:05 pm CT finale at Greer Stadium, the last of eight consecutive games against the division-rivals. Right-hander Josh Butler (5-5, 4.81) takes the mound for Nashville against righty Jay Jackson (5-9, 6.18). Nashville box scoreShockingly Wright didn't see much change in his talent level in the ten or so days he was a free agent. The recap says Schafer's double was the Sounds' only extra-base hit, but the box score credits Mat Gamel with one as well. Nashville play-by-play
  11. Kirk Bohls of the Austin American-Statesman:
  12. The DSL AL All-Stars beat their NL brethren 5-3 tonight in el Juego de las Estrellas. Orlando Arcia started the game at shortstop for the NL and went 0-1 and scored a run. Gian Rizzo tossed a perfect 4th inning with a strikeout. Courtesy Rizzo's Facebook, here's a picture of las dos Estrellas (Rizzo on your left, Arcia on your right): http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/216906_2313311276644_1365273185_2725808_6971392_n.jpg EDIT: It just dawned on me that both Arcia and Rizzo are Venezuelan, as is Osmel Perez, and of course Alcides Escobar. Venezuela has been disproportionately good to the Brewers.
  13. Re-signed Chase Wright is starting for Nashville.
  14. He was released on 7/14.
  15. Final: @Great Lakes 5, Wisconsin 1 Loons quiet RattlersBy Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers MIDLAND, MI - Three Great Lakes Loons pitchers held the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to three hits as the Loons beat the Rattlers 5-1 Sunday afternoon at Down Diamond. The loss ended Wisconsin's brief two game winning streak. Great Lakes scored three times off Rattlers starting pitcher Brooks Hall in the first inning. The first two Loons reached on a double and a single, but Great Lakes only had runners at second and third with two outs. Then, Blake Dean singled in a both runners. Hall walked the next batter to move Dean into scoring position. Steve Domecus capped the two out rally with an RBI single for the 3-0 lead. Jason Rogers started the Rattlers' fourth-inning with a single, the first hit of the game for the Rattlers. He took second on a play that was disputed by Loons manager John Shoemaker. Rogers was ruled safe on a force play at second and after a brief discussion Shoemaker was ejected. Rogers tried to take third on a grounder to short off the bat of Chad Stang. Bryant Hernandez tried to get Rogers at third, but threw wildly and Rogers scored to make the score 3-1. The Loons added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth. Bobby Coyle started the inning with a home run to right. An RBI double by Jon Garcia plated the second run of the inning and Great Lakes was up 5-1. Rick Anton, an 8th round pick of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2011 draft, got the start and allowed one hit in four innings. Raul Burgos followed with three shutout frames. Bret Montgomery closed out the Rattlers with two scoreless innings and only one hit. The final game of the series at Dow Diamond is Monday evening at 6:05pm CDT. Wisconsin will send Matt Miller (3-4, 4.74) to the mound as the starting pitcher. Great Lakes has Greg Wilborn (2-0, 2.35) as their scheduled starter. Tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM or timberrattler.com starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 5:45pm. Wisconsin box scoreHall had almost exactly the same line as Austin Ross above: 5.1 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 1 HR 5/4 GO/FO. Seth Lintz, in his A-ball debut, worked a scoreless inning with a walk and a strikeout. Just one walk. Pretty good. Obviously not much to talk about regarding the offense. Stang did throw a runner out at home. This is like the year of the outfield assist or something. Wisconsin play-by-play
  16. Final (game two): Brevard County 7, @St. Lucie 6 (7 innings) Brevard County box scoreThe Sea Cows took a 7-1 lead in the 3rd inning and held on for the win. Austin Ross continues to pitch poorly since his promotion: 5 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 1 HR, 7/2 GO/FO. Effective but nondescript offense: BC had 11 hits, all singles. Chris Dennis was on three times with two walks to go along with his safety. Brevard County play-by-play
  17. Forgot about the doubleheader for a second; he started game two.
  18. Final (game one): Brevard County 3, @St. Lucie 2 (7 innings) Brevard County box scoreNick Bucci went seven innings for the fourth straight start, but this one falls into the "ugly but effective" category: 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 2 K, 1 HR, 5/8 GO/AO. The 'Tees got a run in the top of the 7th on Juan Sanchez's first homer of the year to give Bucci the abbreviated complete-game win. D'Vontrey Richardson (2-3, 2B) had multiple hits for the fifth time in his last six games. Scott Krieger posted the same line as D'Vo. Scooter Gennett got the day off. Three of Bucci's four free passes were handed out to Mets LF Pedro Zapata.Brevard County play-by-play
  19. Manatees' Davis plates career-high fiveAndrew Pentis/Special to MLB.com No wonder Kentrail Davis' biggest issue in the batter's box has been timing. The former first-round Draft pick is in a rush to get out Brevard County. Shedding thoughts of a season he called laced with "confidence-killers," the Brewers prospect collected a career-high five RBIs in the Manatees' 14-6 road win over the St. Lucie Mets, who had won six straight. Davis, who turned 23 last month, has eight RBIs over his last five games. During that span, he's 9-for-23 to raise his average to .258, the highest it's been since May 26. "It's been a long year for me," said Davis, who batted .244 in 33 games for the Class A Advanced Manatees last season. "I definitely want to be a little farther than I am now. I'd be lying if I [didn't] say that sometimes you just don't know what you're doing. "It's just a grind out here. Just sticking with it, talking to my coaches and getting as much information as possible. Everybody is going to struggle, and we all know that as baseball players. The thing is, I always want to get out of [a slump] a lot quicker." The left-handed-hitting outfielder was 1-for-4 with a two-run single through seven innings Saturday, then got busy. He singled home another run in the eighth and his triple in the ninth plated two more teammates. "I was looking for something on the outer half, but he came in with an inside changeup," Davis said of his ninth-inning matchup with reliever Estarlin Morel. "I stayed back and put a good swing on it. ... I hit down the [right-field] line in no-man's land." Aside from holding his hands lower in the batter's box -- the minor adjustment by his standards has helped during his current hot streak -- Davis said the reason for his offensive upswing isn't entirely physical. "The biggest thing hasn't been a change to my swing, it's being in a ready position," said Davis, the 38th overall pick in 2009. "Timing has been a big issue for me, being in a good position to put a swing on the ball." Work with batting coach Dwayne Hosey is beginning to pay off. Including Saturday's performance, Davis is hitting .263 with runners in scoring position. "Being able to help the team out and drive in some runs," the Alabama native said, "that's something I have struggled with this year. It felt really good to actually get the RBIs." Fellow 2009 draftee Scooter Gennett went 4-for-6 and was one of seven Manatees to record at least two hits. Much of the damage was done against Mets starter Gregory Peavey (3-2), who surrendered nine runs -- seven earned -- over 2 1/3 frames. Brevard County's Evan Anundsen (3-2) gave up a run on seven hits over a season-high six innings, fanning four and hitting two batters. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/images/2011/07/23/bJja6CoU.jpg (Cliff Welch/MiLB.com)
  20. Final: Chattanooga 5, @Huntsville 4 Huntsville box scoreTerrible game. Dan Merklinger had coasted through seven shutout innings and had a 4-0 lead, but then the 8th inning happened. Merk put two men on, and in came Darren Byrd, who poured gasoline on the situation by walking two and allowing a hit while recording no outs. Robert Hinton inherited the bases loaded and allowed the tying runs to score, along with the winning run in the 9th. Erik Komatsu had a vintage Cool Breeze night, 2-3 with a double and two walks; he's again been playing center field in the wake of Logan Schafer's promotion. Brock Kjeldgaard had three hits, and Sean Halton two. Khris Davis went 1-5 in his first start. Lee Haydel did not play. 21. Final: @Nashville 4, Iowa 1 De La Cruz Pitches Sounds To Sixth Straight WinNashville Sounds NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Right-hander Frankie De La Cruz turned in an outstanding start and Caleb Gindl belted a two-run homer to lead the Nashville Sounds to a 4-1 victory over the Iowa Cubs in front of 8,744 fans on Saturday night at Greer Stadium. De La Cruz (4-6), who finished one out short of Nashville's first nine-inning complete game of the year, struck out a Sounds season-high 10 batters in the contest. He allowed one run on six hits while walking only one batter during his 109-pitch effort. With the victory, Nashville (49-52) extended its longest winning streak of the year to six games; all of those triumphs have come against the division-rival Cubs as the teams are in the midst of eight consecutive games against one another. Sounds second baseman Taylor Green gave the home team a 1-0 lead in the first inning when he laced an RBI double down the right field line off Iowa starter Alberto Cabrera. The two-bagger plated Logan Schafer, who had drawn an inning-opening walk. Gindl (2-for-2) upped the Nashville advantage to 3-0 in the fourth when he belted a two-run homer off Cabrera that careened off the clubhouse building beyond the right-center wall. The blast, Gindl's 13th roundtripper of the year, also plated Mat Gamel, who reached on a one-out single. The red-hot Gindl extended the Sounds' longest active hitting streak to nine games (13-for-36, .361) with the blast. Schafer, the new Nashville center fielder, kept Iowa off the board in the fifth when he caught a bases-loaded fly ball off the bat of Brett Jackson and fired a strike to catcher Mike Rivera to nail Marwin Gonzalez for an inning-ending double play. It marked the 17th runner thrown out at the plate by a Sounds outfielder this season. The Sounds added a run to make it 4-0 in the sixth when Gamel drew his second walk of the night and scored when Rivera doubled off the base of the wall in left-center. Iowa broke up De La Cruz's shutout bid with an unearned run in the bottom of the ninth. With two outs, a bouncer off the bat of Brad Snyder caromed off the back of the first base bag and the altered trajectory allowed the ball to narrowly elude first baseman Erick Almonte. The next hitter, former Vanderbilt standout Ryan Flaherty, lifted a fly ball double off the left field wall to plate Snyder with the lone Cubs run of the evening. Mike McClendon took over on the hill for Nashville and struck out pinch-hitter Tyler Colvin to end the game and notch his fourth save of the year. Cabrera (1-3) took the loss for Iowa after allowing four runs on seven hits over six innings of work. The teams continue the series with another 6:35 p.m. meeting on Sunday evening. The Sounds have not announced their starting pitcher for the contest. Iowa will send right-hander Nick Struck (0-3, 5.63) to the hill. Nashville box scoreAbout as dominant a start as we've seen this year. In addition to all the good stuff mentioned above, FDLC also posted an 11/2 GO/FO. Schafer was 1-2 with two walks; the promotion has invigorated his plate discipline. Gindl was perfect at the plate, walking in his third plate appearance.Nashville play-by-play
  22. Final: Wisconsin 8, @Great Lakes 6 Rattlers start series in Great Lakes with a winChris Mehring/Wisconsin Timber Rattlers MIDLAND, MI – First, the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers outslugged the Great Lakes Loons Saturday night at Down Diamond. Then, the Rattlers bullpen shut the door on the Loons for an 8-6 victory. TJ Mittelstaedt start the game with a single, but wound up at third before the play ended. The Rattlers leadoff hitter blooped a single inside the left field line. Great Lakes shortstop Casio Grinder got to the ball, but booted it into foul territory to let Mittelstaedt take second. Then, Grinder inexplicably tossed the ball to a fan in the stands to let Mittelstaedt go to third base. Nick Shaw cashed in Mittelstaedt with a single for a 1-0 Rattlers lead. Later in the inning, Greg Hopkins doubled in Shaw for a 2-0 advantage. Great Lakes (56-41 overall, 17-11 second half) came back to tie the game in the bottom of the inning. Wisconsin starting pitcher Charly Bashara walked the first two batters of the bottom of the first. One out later, Nick Akins doubled to left-center and both Loons runners scored. Wisconsin (50-48, 12-16) went back in front in the top of the second thanks to a bunt single and three walks. Mike Walker drew the third walk of the inning issued by Great Lakes starter Ryan Christenson, a bases loaded walk to force in a run for a 3-2 lead. But, the Loons answered right back in the bottom of the second. Michael Pericht hit a leadoff homer to left-center to tie the game. The Rattlers put a crooked number on the board in the top of the third. Hopkins singled to start the inning. Chad Stang followed with an RBI double. Wisconsin loaded the bases on a bunt single by Mike Brownstein and a walk to Joey Paciorek and that drove Christenson out of the game. Franklin Romero, Jr. greeted reliever John Housey with a sacrifice fly to score Stang and move Brownstein to third base. Then, Housey balked to let Brownstein score and move Paciorek into scoring position. Mittelstaedt drove a single to center and Paciorek crossed the plate to put the Rattlers up 7-3. Jesse Bosnik got the Loons back on the scoreboard with a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth inning. Bashara got into trouble in the fifth inning as Great Lakes put runners on first and third with no outs, but the lefty fought back to get the next three batters and keep the Rattlers up by three runs. That lead was extended in the seventh inning. Jason Rogers cracked a long home run to right-center to start the frame and Wisconsin went up 8-4. Great Lakes pulled closer in the bottom of the seventh inning with a pair of runs. Grider reached on an infield single and took second on a throwing error. An RBI double by Bobby Coyle scored Grider. After a grounder sent Coyle to third, a wild pitch let Coyle score to make the score 8-6. But, the Loons would get no closer. Greg Holle tossed a perfect eighth inning. Then, Eric Marzec pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his fourth save of the season to nail down Wisconsin’s second straight win. Game two of the series is Sunday afternoon at Dow Diamond. Wisconsin has Brooks Hall (5-2, 3.82) as their scheduled starting pitcher. The Loons send Brett Montgomery (4-1, 3.59) to the mound. Game time is 1:05pm CDT. Tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM or timberrattlers.com starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 12:45pm. 24. Well, he could have gotten on via a fielder's choice or error, neither of which count as "getting on base" though they literally are instances of that.
