Final: @Nashville 7, Round Rock 6Sounds score two in ninth for come-from-behind 7-6 win Nashville Sounds NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to top the Round Rock Express, 7-6, on Sunday night at historic Greer Stadium in the second game of a four-game set. Second baseman Eric Farris hit a leadoff single to begin the inning and advanced to third as Mat Gamel followed with a base hit down the right field line. Erick Almonte added his first game-tying RBI of the season in the next at-bat as the professional hitter brought home Farris with an infield groundout to knot the game at six apiece. Brendan Katin's third hit of the night moved Almonte to second base, while Norris Hopper plated Almonte with an RBI single to center for the game-winning run. The victory was Nashville's (57-51) 15th last at-bat win and eight come-from-behind victory trailing in the seventh inning or later this season. Hopper has accounted for three of Nashville's game-winning hits. Sounds starter Marty McLeary helped us own cause and broke open a scoreless game in the bottom of the fifth inning. The veteran right-hander crushed the first pitch he saw from Express starter Andy Van Hekken over the fence in left center for a 1-0 Nashville lead. The home run by McLeary was Nashville's first hit by a pitcher in the last three seasons and second of his career, as he previously went deep on September 3, 2007 as a member of the Indianapolis Indians. Tim Dillard was the last pitcher to homer for the Sounds on June 28, 2007 at Albuquerque. In the next frame, second baseman Farris hit a line drive to the right center gap and stretched it into a double to lead off the frame. Gamel then knocked home Farris with another double down the first base line for a 2-0 Nashville advantage. The RBI was Gamel's 21st in his last 14 contests, as the slugger was tied for second among all PCL hitters with 28 RBIs in July. After an intentional walk to Katin, shortstop Luis Cruz singled home Gamel for the next run. Van Hekken was then replaced for Mark Melancon, who surrendered an RBI grounder on the first pitch up the middle to Hopper to plate Katin. The Sounds scored their final run of the frame to make it 5-0 on a fielding error that allowed Cruz to score. In the Round Rock seventh, left fielder Colin DeLome put Round Rock on the board with his 10th home run of the season, a two-out solo shot over the right field wall. The Express tacked on three runs in the next inning, as Round Rock began the inning with a single and a double, followed by a two-run triple by Jack Shuck that cut the lead to two runs. After McLeary was replaced with Dillard, Edwin Maysonet singled to left field to cut the Nashville lead to 5-4. With the Sounds leading 5-4 in the top of the ninth, Chris Smith blew his fourth save of the season after DeLome hit his second home run to right field to tie the game. German Duran followed with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice, advanced to third on an infield groundout, and came home on a double steal. Since returning to Nashville from Milwaukee, Smith has recorded a 7.61 ERA (11er/13.0ip) in his last 12 outings. Both teams recorded blown saves on the night, with one pitcher taking the win and the other a loss. Smith (3-3) backed into the win after surrendering two runs on two hits in one inning pitched. Chris Sampson (0-1) blew a save and took the loss after giving up two runs in 2/3 innings thrown. McLeary matched his season-high with seven plus innings pitched, allowing four runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and no walks. Dillard tossed a shutout inning for the Sounds in relief. Nashville banged out 15 hits as Gamel and Katin each had three hits in the victory. Martin Maldonado hit a ground-rule double for the second consecutive night to go 1-for-4 on the night, as the catcher has now hit safely in 16 of his last 17 contests. Farris also added two hits to record a hit in 15 of his last 16 games. Van Hekken allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings to earn a no decision. The Sounds and Express will continue with the third game of a four-game set at 7:05 pm CT at historic Greer Stadium on Monday night. Nashville southpaw Sam Narron (6-4, 3.90) will take the mound against Round Rock righty Shane Loux (2-10, 7:03). Nashville box score You can listen to Hopper's walk-off hit here. Gamel, who started at third base, continues to swing a hot stick. Lorenzo Cain was 0-4 with a walk and an outfield assist. How about Marty McLeary--clearly motivated by a strong desire to win over MH--knocking one out? I think either Brock Kjeldgaard or Scott Krieger earlier this year had a sac bunt and a homer in the same game, and McLeary pulled it off as well today. While we're at it, how about the tying run in the top of the 9th coming in on a double steal? Bold and daring. Nashville play-by-play

Final: @Huntsville 2, Mississippi 1 (10 innings)Huntsville box score Wily Peralta continues to be successful despite drastically reduced strikeout numbers: 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 1 HR, 10/3 GO/AO, 79 pitches, 47 strikes. As you can see from the GO/AO, he also maintained his worm-burning ways, which is no doubt part of the answer to his continued effectiveness. Nick Green and Jeremy Jeffress each followed with two scoreless innings; Jeffress struck out one, walked none, allowed two hits, and got four ground outs. Brett Lawrie may be starting another hot streak; he was 2-5 with his 14th triple today. Lee Haydel and Dayton Buller also had two hits, Taylor Green was hitless but walked twice, and Caleb Gindl was 1-5 and had an outfield assist. Final: Round Rock 7, @Nashville 4Express plate three in 9th to take opener Nashville Sounds NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Round Rock Express scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to hang a 7-4 defeat on the Nashville Sounds in front of 6,901 fans on Saturday evening at historic Greer Stadium in the opener of a four-game series. The loss was the fourth in a row for Nashville (56-51), which fell four games behind division-leading Iowa in the PCL American Conference Northern Division. After the Sounds came up empty after having the bases loaded and none out in the bottom of the eighth, Round Rock put up a three-spot against Nashville reliever Mike McClendon (4-3) in the ninth. The right-hander had allowed only two runs in 33.0 relief innings all season entering the contest. Express catcher Edwin Bellorin turned in an outstanding at-bat to lead off the ninth against McClendon, fouling off 14 balls after he had two strikes on him before slapping an opposite-field double to right. Pinch-hitter Collin DeLome then ripped the first pitch he saw from the right-hander over the head of Mat Gamel in right field for an RBI double to give the visitors a 5-4 lead. Shelton lifted a sacrifice fly and Locke added a two-out bloop RBI single later in the frame in increase the Round Rock cushion to 7-4. Right-hander Tim Corcoran worked around a one-out Ray Olmedo triple in the bottom of the ninth to toss a scoreless frame and notch his eighth save of the year. The late Express rally made a winner out of Gary Majewski (4-3), who had successfully worked into and out of the bases-loaded jam in the eighth in his lone frame of action. Nashville second baseman Eric Farris went 0-for-4 in the contest to snap the Sounds' hitting streak of the season at 14 games. Sounds starting pitcher Chase Wright helped his own cause in the third, driving a one-out RBI single up the middle off Express starter Josh Banks to give Nashville a 1-0 lead. Catcher Martin Maldonado, who preceded the hurler with a ground-rule double to center, scored on the knock. Wright is hitting a healthy .333 (8-for-24) this season, while Maldonado has hit safely in 15 of his last 16 contests for the Sounds. Right fielder Gamel doubled the Sounds' advantage an inning later, swatting a leadoff homer to right off Banks. The blast, which made it a 2-0 game, was his eighth longball of the year. Round Rock finally got on the board in the top of the sixth, taking a 4-2 lead with a four-run rally. With one out, Wladimir Sutil, Brian Bogusevic, and Chris Shelton put together three consecutive singles, the last of which plated Sutil to cut the Nashville lead to 2-1 and chased Wright from the contest. Right-hander Carlos Villanueva took over for Wright, making his first minor league appearance since 2007, and served up a go-ahead three-run homer to the first batter he faced. Express right fielder Drew Locke belted the blast to left on a 2-2 pitch, his 12th roundtripper of the year. Sounds left fielder Adam Stern (2-for-4) evened the score at 4-4 in the home half of the sixth when he lined a two-run homer to right off Banks, his fourth tater of the season. Lorenzo Cain opened the frame with a single and scored on the blast. The game was delayed for 62 minutes in the middle of the eighth inning due to rain. As the game resumed, Nashville missed a golden opportunity to break the tie. Pinch-hitter Norris Hopper singled to right off Majewski to open the bottom of the eighth and advanced to second when Locke misplayed the ball. Cain drew a walk and Stern blooped a single just over the outstretched glove of Sutil in shallow center to load the bases with none out. Majewski recovered to strike out Gamel and Joe Koshansky consecutively before Luis Cruz grounded out to short to end the inning. Neither starter factored in the decision. Wright took a no-decision for the Sounds after being charged with three runs on four hits over 5 1/3 innings, walking two batters and striking out five. Banks allowed four runs on seven hits, including a pair of homers, over his six frames of work. The series continues with another 6:35 p.m. meeting on Sunday night. Right-hander Marty McLeary (5-6, 7.34), who has won five of his seven starts for the Sounds this season, will man the bump for Nashville to face Round Rock southpaw Andy Van Hekken (6-6, 4.31). Nashville box score So...right fielder Mat Gamel? Glad to see him slugging like a corner outfielder. Cain finished 2-3 with a walk. How about that Bellorin at-bat? The recap says he fouled off 14 balls, but Gameday says 10; either way, impressive. Villanueva went 1.2 innings, allowing the homer and another hit, no walks, and striking out one. He threw 18 of his 23 pitches for strikes. Nashville play-by-play Here's Villanueva's outing: Round Rock Top 6th Jack Shuck strikes out swinging. Wladimir Sutil singles on a ground ball to center fielder Lorenzo Cain. Brian Bogusevic singles on a line drive to left fielder Adam Stern. Wladimir Sutil to 2nd. Coaching visit to mound. Josh Banks grounds into a force out, second baseman Eric Farris to shortstop Luis Cruz. Edwin Bellorin out at 2nd. Round Rock Top 7th Jack Shuck flies out to left fielder Adam Stern. Wladimir Sutil lines out to left fielder Adam Stern. Brian Bogusevic grounds out, pitcher Carlos Villanueva to second baseman Eric Farris to first baseman Joe Koshansky.

Final: @Huntsville 5, Mississippi 0 Huntsville box score In an interesting role reversal, Andre Lamontagne started and went five shutout innings, while Chris Cody came in and picked up the (four-inning) save. Both posted identical peripherals: three strikeouts, one walk, two hits, though Lamontagne also hit a batter. Very impressive first start of the year for the big righty out of Oral Roberts. He also took his first career plate appearances, striking out both times--did you know that he's a switch hitter? Brett Lawrie had a great night, 2-2 with a homer, his first in July, two walks, and his 28th stolen base. All that damage came against right-handed pitching, all but one of the walks coming off of prospect Randall Delgado. The Stars touched up Delgado for four runs in four innings, the second time in four games they've beat up on a top Braves pitching prospect. Taylor Green (3-4, double) and Zelous Wheeler (1-2, two walks) also had fine evenings. Caleb Gindl was 1-4 and stole a base. Huntsville play-by-play In uncharted territory pitch count-wise, Lamontagne faltered a bit to begin the 5th, but rallied nicely with the bottom of the order coming up: Mississippi Top 5th Donell Linares hit by pitch. Orlando Mercado singles on a pop up to second baseman Brett Lawrie. Donell Linares to 2nd. Coaching visit to mound. Yasser Gomez grounds into double play, second baseman Brett Lawrie to first baseman Chris Nowak. Donell Linares to 3rd. Orlando Mercado out at 2nd. Randall Delgado strikes out swinging. Cody got right into the action in the 6th: Huntsville Bottom 6th Taylor Green singles on a line drive to center fielder Antoan Richardson. Lee Haydel flies out to left fielder Yasser Gomez. Anderson De La Rosa flies out to center fielder Antoan Richardson. With Chris Cody batting, passed ball by Orlando Mercado, Taylor Green to 2nd. Chris Cody singles on a fly ball to center fielder Antoan Richardson. Taylor Green scores. Chris Cody out at 2nd on the throw, center fielder Antoan Richardson to catcher Orlando Mercado to second baseman Eric Duncan to first baseman Mauro Gomez.

Final: Clinton 10, @Wisconsin 0Clinton shuts out the Rattlers Chris Mehring/Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI – The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers returned home after a long road trip to take on the Clinton LumberKings. But, it was the LumberKings who made themselves feel at home with a 10-0 victory at Time Warner Cable Field. Wisconsin has lost four straight games. Clinton (53-49 overall, 16-17 second half) got out of the gate early by taking advantage of an error, a couple of walks, and a two-out hit. Rattlers starting pitcher Eric Arnett retired the first batter of the inning. James Jones was next and his grounder to second was booted for an error. Arnett walked the next two batters to load the bases, but was poised to get out of the inning after getting the second out on an foul pop. But, Mario Martinez lined a single back through the middle and two runs scored to give the LumberKings a 2-0 lead. Mistakes with two outs got the Rattlers (41-61, 15-19) and Arnett in trouble in the top of the second inning. Clinton had a runner at third with two outs and Arnett uncorked a wild pitch that let the runner score. A walk was followed by an RBI triple from Nick Franklin. Then, Franklin scored on another wild pitch and the LumberKings were up 5-0. Erasmo Ramirez scattered six hits, walked one, and struck out four over 6-2/3 innings to pick up his eighth win of the season for Clinton. The LumberKings put the game away with a five run rally in the sixth inning. Matt Cerione started the inning with a homer off Arnett. Gabriel Noriega was next and he doubled to chase Arnett from the game. Tony Butler was welcomed back to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers with a single to right by Luis Nunez. Noriega scored on the play when the ball was misplayed in right. Butler, who played for the Rattlers in 2007 when Wisconsin was an affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, walked the next batter. He got the first out of the inning with a force out at second. That brought Blake Ochoa to the plate with runners at the corners. Ochoa, who was briefly a teammate of Butler on the Timber Rattlers in 2007, smacked a 3-2 pitch over the wall in left for a three-run homer and a 10-0 lead for the current Midwest League affiliate of the Mariners. A pair of Clinton pitchers tossed the final 2-1/3 innings to complete the shutout. Scooter Gennett had three of Wisconsin’s seven hits. The loss dropped the Rattlers to 20 games under .500 for the first time this season. Game two of the series is Sunday afternoon at 1:05pm. Wisconsin has Nick Bucci (4-5, 3.73) as their scheduled starting pitcher. Taylor Lewis (3-1, 6.37) is set to start for the LumberKings. Sunday is a Brewers presented by 107.5 The Fan and Timber Rattlers players will be wearing jerseys and caps based on those of the 1982 Milwaukee Brewers. Plus, the first 500 fans into the stadium will receive a magnet from Lamers Bus Lines with a picture of former Timber Rattler David Ortiz. Fans may play catch on the field before the game and there is a scheduled post-game autograph session with the players for all fans. Additionally, Time Warner Cable subscribers may bring in their bill and receive up to four half priced reserve seat tickets. If you can’t make it out to the ballpark, you may tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM. The Miller Lite Pregame Show starts at 12:45pm. Wisconsin box score Arnett's final line is ugly: 5 IP, 7 H, 7 R, 5 ER, 4 BB, 1 HBP, 3 K, 1 HR, 2 WP, 89 pitches, 50 strikes. Mehring said, paraphrasing, that he seemed like the "old Eric Arnett" for the first time since his recall and that Arnett seemed pretty rattled on the mound at one point. On the bright side, Hiram Burgos tossed three shutout innings to finish the game, striking out five and walking two. Great game from Scooter, though he did commit an error. Hunter Morris was 1-3 with a walk, and Khris Davis was 0-3 with a HBP. Kentrail Davis was out of the lineup again while attending a family funeral; Chris said that he's expected back tomorrow. Final: Jupiter 3, @Brevard County 2Hammerheads halt BC's win streak at 7 Frank Longobardo/Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. -The Brevard County Manatees seven-game winning streak was snapped at the hands of the Jupiter Hammerheads 3-2 on Saturday night at Space Coast Stadium. In a game that didn't have a single extra-base hit, the Manatees (49-55, 22-13) did record ten singles, but went just 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position. The Hammerheads (34-68, 12-22) on the other hand had just three hits, but were able to produce runs by playing some small ball. Jupiter scored twice in the second off of Manatees starter R.J. Seidel as Ernesto Manzanillo walked with one out and then stole second. Jake Smolinski also walked and then Thomas Hickman singled to right to score Manzanillo. Daniel Pertusati then grounded into a fielder's choice that scored a run to give the Hammerheads a 2-0 lead. The Manatees cut the lead in half in the third as Sergio Miranda singled with two outs to score Josh Prince. The Hammerheads would score again in the fifth as Miguel Fermin led the inning off with a bunt single and then stole second and reached third on a wild pitch. He would then score on a sacrifice fly to make it a 3-1 Jupiter lead. Brevard County's best chance to get back in the game was in the eighth as Sean Halton and Angel Salome led off the inning with back-to-back singles. Then Brock Kjeldgaard grounded into what seemed to be a routine 6-4-3 double play, but Pertusati's throw from first was in the dirt and bounced into the Manatees dugout as Halton scored to cut the lead to 3-2 and put Kjeldgaard at second. The next batter was Scott Krieger and he ripped a pitch into the right center field gap, but Hickman was just able to cover enough ground to snag the ball and prevent Brevard County from tying the game. Shawn Zarraga struck out to end the inning. Seidel was saddled with his first loss of the season as he went six innings and allowed three runs (all earned) on three hits and three walks, while striking out one. Trey Watten threw three innings of scoreless relief to keep the Manatees within striking distance. Prince led the way out of the lead-off spot, going 3-for-5 with a run scored and a stolen base. Miranda was the other Manatees with multiple hits, with two and he had the only Brevard County RBI. Despite the loss, the Manatees completed their best month of the season by far by going 19-9 in July. Brevard County and Jupiter will continue the series with a Sunday afternoon game at 1:05 p.m. at Space Coast Stadium. Darren Byrd (1-1, 4.35) will take the mound for the Manatees, while Joseph O'Gara (4-2, 3.12) will toe the rubber for the Hammerheads. Brevard County box score Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. Nice game from Prince, though he was also caught stealing once to go with his successful theft. Zarraga was 1-3 with the Manatees' only walk of the game, but he allowed four steals on defense without a single runner thrown out. Salome was pinch-run for again in the 8th. Erik Komatsu didn't start but pinch-hit in the 9th and flied out. Watten did his thing, getting seven ground outs against one air out in his three frames. Brevard County play-by-play Jupiter handed BC a gift rally-starter in the 2nd, but the Manatees couldn't do anything with it: Brevard County Bottom 2nd Sean Halton reaches on fielding error by shortstop Ernesto Manzanillo. Angel Salome reaches on fielding error by third baseman Jake Smolinski. Sean Halton to 2nd. Brock Kjeldgaard strikes out swinging. Scott Krieger strikes out swinging. Shawn Zarraga grounds out, first baseman Ben Lasater to pitcher Brad Hand. Prince's caught-stealing was huge: Brevard County Bottom 9th Offensive Substitution: Pinch hitter Erik Komatsu replaces Juan Sanchez. Erik Komatsu flies out to right fielder Thomas Hickman. Josh Prince singles on a ground ball to left fielder Jeremy Synan. With Matt Cline batting, Josh Prince caught stealing 2nd base, catcher Miguel Fermin to second baseman Daniel Pertusati. Matt Cline lines out to pitcher Ryan Tucker.

Your 2010 Nashville Sounds -- Latest: Top 10 Moments
battlekow replied to bork's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Getting to know second baseman Eric Farris -
Ha, shows you what state my mind was in last night. First, I didn't even notice that Cutter Dykstra was ejected from the Rattlers game. Then, when I looked at the Helena PBP to see why Garvey had left, I saw that he batted last the previous half-inning and that there was a pitching change and assumed it was a double switch--forgetting about the whole DH thing. Let this be a lesson to you aspiring Link Reporters: consumption of Capital Blonde Doppelbock and reading comprehension are inversely related.

In the Wick of time Leith Dunick/tbnewswatch.com Rowan Wick has ensured Team Canada will play for a medal at the World Junior Baseball Championships. The Milwaukee Brewers draft pick slammed a pair of two-run homers at Port Arthur Stadium on Friday night, powering Canada to an easy 11-1 quarterfinal win over Team Italy, setting up a Saturday date with Chinese-Taipei for the right to play for gold. Designated hitter Philip Diedrick had yet another big blow, a three-run double in the first, upping his RBI total to 10 as the tournament hit the one-week mark. Brandon Dailey sealed the win with a solo shot to left to start the seventh, kicking in the tournament’s 10-run mercy rule. “It felt great,” said a painfully shy Wick, who did a brief interview before the television cameras, but declined to speak to other media. It was a far cry from their last paper mismatch, Wednesday’s round-robin finale that required the ninth inning heroics of Dalton Pompey to secure an 8-7 win over the Czech Republic. Getting started early – a five run first will do that – was key, said Canadian manager Greg Hamilton. “That was a key,” he said. “You want to get out early, you want to take away any life that they might have or any enthusiasm that they might have out of the equation. I was real happy to be able to do that. It makes it a whole lot easier when you get some runs on the board early.” Ditto, said Canadian starter Jonathan Paquet, after giving up just four hits and one run over six innings, striking out nine Italian batters along the way. Paquet spotted the Italians a 1-0 lead in the first, when Davide Benetti singled home lead-off hitter Mirco Caradonna, then settled in to watch his own side pile it on in their half of the inning. His confidence grew considerably, he said. “It’s always easier when you know the offensive guys behind you are there to help you. You can make more mistakes and you’re not in trouble. Still, you try to do the same job to make it easy,” he said. If they hadn’t learned their lesson against the Czechs, the Canadians had it reinforced earlier on Friday, when Cuba edged the United States 3-2 and then in true upset fashion, Australia knocked off the two-time defending champion South Koreans. Hamilton said there was no way his team wanted to be upset No. 3 of the day. “You’ve got to be ready to play. It’s international baseball, it’s a one-game shot and on a given night, if you’re not ready, somebody will get you. Those were good ballgames ... When you get down to the end, teams are there for a reason. They can play,” Hamilton said. Taking on 4-1 Chinese-Taipei certainly won’t be a walk in the ballpark, he cautioned. “They don’t necessarily fit the North American view of physicality, but they can play the game. They’re pretty tough. They can pitch and they do the little things right on the field and they’ll pick you apart offensively, so we’ve got to be ready to play.” Wick and company had some pre-tournament experience with the Asian team, and the outcome wasn’t in Canada’s favour. “They’re a really good team. They beat us. We have momentum right now and hopefully we can come through and beat them tomorrow,” he said. Another performace like Friday’s would go a long way to ensuring that goal is achieved. One batter after Diedrick cleared the bases in the first with a double to right centre off Italian starter Andrea Zambelloni, Wick stepped to the plate and smacked a 1-1 pitch down the line in right that just cleared the fence, putting Canada up 5-1. Dalton Pompey added another in the fourth, singling home Jimmy Ralph. The next inning Wick was at it again, this time going deep on Italian reliever Yomil Rivera, who took over to start the inning. Up by seven, they didn’t let up in the sixth, scoring twice more on a Justin Atkinson double, but they had to settle for a nine-run lead, knowing they’d come to bat at least one more time, even if they held the Italians. Reliever Joel Pierce did just that, surrendering a two-out single to Mattia Mercuri before retiring CF Guiseppe Sellaroli to end the inning. Dailey ended it in a hurry, crushing the third pitch he saw from the Italians third pitcher, Alessandro Tiberi, over the fence in left to secure the win. The Italian team refused interviews after the game. The Cubans will play Australia in the matinee semifinal at 2 p.m., while Canada and Chinese-Taipei take the field at 7 p.m. The winners will meet in Sunday’s final, the losers will play for bronze. http://static.tbnewswatch.com/Pictures/103720_634161280648145609.jpg Canadian RF Rowan Wick (right) is congratulated by teammates after hitting his second homer of the night. Final: @DSL Athletics 3, DSL Brewers 1DSL Brewers box score I guess my guy Osmel Perez is a starter now, but his strikeout numbers have taken a tumble since being moved to the rotation. He fanned one in five innings today, giving him three K's in ten frames as a rotation member. Still, he didn't fare too poorly, holding the A's scoreless through four before faltering in the 5th, ultimately allowing three runs on six hits and two walks. Pedro Lambertus made his first appearance of the year, tossing a perfect inning with a strikeout. Ruben Sanchez was 2-5 with a double, Ronny Puello was 2-4 with a double, and Juan de Leon was 2-3 with a walk. Raul Mondesi, Jr. was 0-4, running his hitless streak to 14 at-bats since his 4-5 night on the 27th, though he did reach base on a HBP. Jose Pena did not play. DSL Brewers play-by-play The Brewers were impressively unclutch in the early going: DSL Brewers Top 2nd Ronny Puello singles on a fly ball to left fielder Jose Sayegh. Juan De Leon singles on a line drive to left fielder Jose Sayegh. Ronny Puello to 2nd. With Jose R. Garcia batting, wild pitch by Jose Castillo, Ronny Puello to 3rd. Juan De Leon to 2nd. Jose R. Final: @Peoria 5, Wisconsin 2 Rattlers fall in Peoria Chris Mehring/Wisconsin Timber Rattlers PEORIA, IL – The Peoria Chiefs have some kind of mojo against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at O’Brien Field. Friday’s 5-2 Peoria victory gave they a 6-0 record against the Rattlers in their home stadium this season. The Chiefs are 12-1 in the last 13 games against the Rattlers. A pair of defensive miscues by Wisconsin in the bottom of the second inning gave Peoria all the runs they would need to beat the Rattlers. The Chiefs (53-47 overall, 15-16 second half) loaded the bases against Wisconsin starter Damon Krestalude with a pair of singles to start the inning and a one out single. Krestalude looked like he would get out of the inning when he got George Matheus to fly out to shallow right to keep the runners where they were. Then, Hak-Ju Lee to send a chopper to first. But, the ball was mishandled by Hunter Morris and Lee reached first as the first Peoria run scored. Logan Watkins was next and his grounder to third snuck under the glove of Rattlers infielder Cutter Dykstra to allow two more runs to score for a 3-0 score. Dykstra made up for his miscue in the field with a big swing in the top of the third. He stepped up with one out and a runner at first when he unloaded on a pitch from Peoria starting pitcher Frank Batista. The long two-run homer got the Rattlers (41-60, 15-18) to within 3-2. But, that was as close as Wisconsin would get. Batista struck out five and did not allow another run over his five innings of work. The score remained 3-2 until the bottom of the seventh inning. Rattlers reliever Santo Manzanillo gave up RBI singles to Mario Mercedes and Lee and the Chiefs went in front 5-2. Wisconsin put together an attempted rally in the top of the eighth. Joey Paciorek singled to start the inning. Two outs later Morris and Chris Dennis drew walks against Peoria reliever Daniel Keefe to load the bases. But, Keefe got out of the inning and maintained the three run cushion. The Timber Rattlers return home to start a seven game homestand on Saturday night with a game against the Clinton LumberKings. Eric Arnett (0-7, 6.06) is the scheduled starter for the Timber Rattlers. Clinton will counter with Erasmo Ramirez (7-4, 2.67) as their starting pitcher. The first 1,000 fans into Time Warner Cable Field will receive a poster of recently promoted pitcher Kyle Heckathorn courtesy of Express Convenience Centers. There is also a FOX 11 Fireworks display after the game. If you can’t make it out to the stadium, tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM. The Miller Lite Pregame Show starts at 6:15pm. Game time on Saturday night is 6:35pm. Wisconsin box score Glad to see Dykstra hit the ball with some authority. Morris made two errors, both fielding. With Kentrail Davis out of the lineup, Scooter Gennett hit third and went 1-4 with a double. Erik Miller made the most of his rare starting opportunity by going 2-4. D'Vontrey Richardson was 0-5 and fanned thrice. Manzanillo walked three and allowed four hits in 1.2 innings. Wisconsin play-by-play Paciorek came on for Dykstra in the 5th. Anyone know why?

Final: @Brevard County 6, St. Lucie 0'Tees blank Mets, win streak at 7 Frank Longobardo/Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. -The Brevard County Manatees shutout the St. Lucie Mets 6-0 on Friday night at Space Coast Stadium in front on 1,809 fans, to sweep the series and extended the team's longest winning streak of the season to seven games. After allowing five runs in his previous two starts, Cody Scarpetta threw 6 1/3 shutout innings and allowed five hits, while walking two and striking out seven. He earned his sixth win of the season and has a 2.72 ERA in his last ten starts. Daniel Meadows came in for Scarpetta in the seventh and went 1 2/3 innings and allowed a hit and struck out two. Mike Ramlow finished the night with a scoreless ninth to preserve the shutout for the Manatees. Erik Komatsu led the way for the Manatees (49-54, 22-12) at the plate as he went 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and two runs scored. Shawn Zarraga drove in two runs and Sergio Miranda hit his first home run of the year, a solo shot to right in the third inning. Seven of Brevard County's starting nine in the batting order had at least one hit. St. Lucie (50-53, 17-18) never had a runner get past second base and committed three errors as the Mets lost their tenth straight game. Brevard County out-scored St. Lucie 17-3 in the four-game sweep. Up next for the Manatees will be a four-game series at home with the Jupiter Hammerheads starting Saturday night at 7:05. R.J. Seidel (3-0, 3.20) is scheduled to take the hill for the Manatees, while the Hammerheads will send Brad Hand (5-7, 3.56) to the mound. Brevard County box score Impressive work from Scarpetta and Komatsu. Miranda's home run was his first of the year, matching his total from last year, and he also walked twice. Brock Kjeldgaard pitched in with a double and a walk; he's been slowly coming on the past couple months after a terrible April and May. Brevard County play-by-play The Manatees were able to overcome what must have been a deflating beginning: Brevard County Bottom 1st Matt Cline hit by pitch. Sergio Miranda walks. Matt Cline to 2nd. Erik Komatsu singles on a bunt ground ball to pitcher Eric Beaulac. Matt Cline to 3rd. Sergio Miranda to 2nd. Sean Halton strikes out swinging. Angel Salome grounds into double play, second baseman Jordany Valdespin to shortstop Wilmer Flores to first baseman Stefan Welch. Erik Komatsu out at 2nd.

Mississippi made it close, getting single runs in the 8th and 9th, but couldn't quite bridge the gap. Jim Henderson worked himself into trouble to begin the 9th, allowing three baserunners and only recording one out, before Lucas Luetge and Eddie Morlan came on to get an out apiece and finish off the Braves. Taylor Green went 1-4 with his eighth homer of the year, a two-run shot. Caleb Gindl had two singles in four trips, and Zelous Wheeler, Drew Anderson, and Lee Haydel each had a single and a walk. Haydel stole his 19th base. Brett Lawrie was 0-4. Final: Omaha 3, @Nashville 0Royals silence Sounds, 3-0, in finale Nashville Sounds NASHVILLE. Tenn. - Omaha starter Philip Humber pitched a complete game shutout to propel the division-rival Omaha Royals to a 3-0 victory over the Nashville Sounds on Friday evening at historic Greer Stadium. Humber (5-6) earned his fifth win after allowing only four hits and two walks while striking out seven in nine innings. It was the second time this season a pitcher has tossed a complete game shutout against Nashville, as Tacoma's Steven Shell achieved the feat on May 12th in Nashville. The loss was Nashville's (5-9) seventh shutout loss of the season and third from the hands of Omaha. Eric Farris and Erick Almonte produced Nashville's only hits, as Humber quieted the rest of the Sounds lineup. For the third consecutive season, the Sounds and Royals split the season-series, 8-8. Nashville was the last team to win a season series between the rivals, triumphing 9-7 in 2007. In a pretty amazing feat, the Sounds and Royals have split their 384 all-time regular season meetings at 192 apiece dating back to 1985, when the Sounds moved up to the Class AAA level and joined the now-defunct American Association. Continuing to stay hot for the Royals, first baseman Kila Ka'aihue gave Omaha a 1-0 lead, hitting a home run just out of the reach of Sounds right fielder Brendan Katin's glove over the right field wall in the top of the fourth inning. The home run was Ka'aihue's team-leading 24th homer of the season, tying him for second in the Pacific Coast League. The Royals tacked on two more insurance runs in the top of the ninth for a 3-0 advantage. Shortstop Ed Lucas hit his ninth homer of the season for Omaha's first run, a solo shot off the guitar-shaped scoreboard. Later in the inning, Kurt Mertins hit a two-out RBI single to left field for the other run. Sounds starter Chris Waters (5-9) was removed from the contest with a left arm injury with two outs in the top of the fourth inning to take the loss. Before being taken out, Waters allowed one run on three hits with a strikeout in 3 2/3 innings pitched. Chuck Lofgren was effective in his second relief appearance of the season. The left-hander allowed two runs on five hits in 5 1/3 frames, walking three while fanning three. Farris extended his hitting streak to a season-best 14 games on the evening with his two hits. Tony Gwynn Jr.'s 15-game hit streak last season was the longest recorded by a Sounds player in 2009. The Sounds continue their eight-game homestand by welcoming the Round Rock Express (AAA-Astros) to Music City for a four-game set beginning at 6:35 pm CT at historic Greer Stadium. Left-hander Chase Wright (7-6, 4.56) takes the mound for Nashville against Express righty Josh Banks (8-7, 3.25). Nashville box score Hope Waters is okay. Nice job from Lofgren to come in and save the bullpen, though those two runs in the 9th must have been a back-breaker. Farris also stole his 7th base. Lorenzo Cain and Mat Gamel were hitless, but Gamel did draw a walk. You can listen to the audio of the Sounds turning a 5-6-3 double play here. Nashville play-by-play Waters found himself in a jam immediately, but did good work getting out of it: Omaha Top 1st Jarrod Dyson triples (1) on a fly ball to center fielder Lorenzo Cain. David Lough pops out to second baseman Eric Farris. Mike Moustakas flies out to left fielder Norris Hopper. Kila Ka'aihue grounds out, first baseman Joe Koshansky to pitcher Chris Waters. The Sounds came very close to tying the game in the 5th: Nashville Bottom 5th Eric Farris singles on a ground ball to second baseman Kurt Mertins. Luis Cruz flies out to right fielder Jordan Parraz. With Ben Johnson batting, Eric Farris steals (7) 2nd base, . Eric Farris advances to 3rd, on throwing error by catcher Manuel Pina. Ben Johnson flies into double play, right fielder Jordan Parraz to catcher Manuel Pina. Eric Farris out at home on the throw.
