Because Dykstra is a year old and a right-handed hitter, I wonder if the Brewers would consider skipping him over Brevard County next year straight to Huntsville. Space Coast isn't nearly as hard on lefties as it is on righties, so Gennett shouldn't need to be "protected" from it. -
Final: AL All-Stars 4, NL All-Stars 3NL All-Stars box score Looks like Rigoberto Almonte and Jose Cepeda were the only Brewers on the DSL NL All-Star team, or at least the only ones to get in the game. Almonte allowed a run on two hits in 2/3 of an inning, while Cepeda could only get one out in the 9th, allowing two runs on a hit and a walk. Unfortunately, that means Brewers relievers combined to allow three of the four runs the AL would score, directly contributing to the NL's loss in the Juego de Estrellas. NL All-Stars play-by-play The NL entered the 9th with a 3-1 lead: AL All-Stars Bottom 9th Pitcher Change: Jose Cepeda replaces Adner Ruiz. Charlie Valerio pops out to first baseman Aris Alcantara. Erik Gonzalez walks. Francisco Contreras singles on a line drive to left fielder Leonardo Fuentes. Erik Gonzalez to 2nd. Pitcher Change: Raul Pena replaces Jose Cepeda. With Kelvin Ortiz batting, wild pitch by Raul Pena, Erik Gonzalez to 3rd. Francisco Contreras to 2nd. Kelvin Ortiz doubles (1) on a fly ball to center fielder Jorge Castillo. Erik Gonzalez scores. Francisco Contreras scores. Alexander Zorrilla doubles (1) on a fly ball to right fielder Yoan Alcantara. Kelvin Ortiz scores.

Final: @Palm Beach 2, Brevard County 0Brevard County box score Darren Byrd started and pitched well, giving up two runs in six innings while fanning six, but the Manatees couldn't get anything done at the plate. Trey Watten finished the game with two perfect innings and a perfect distribution of outs--three strikeouts, three ground outs. Your five baserunners of the day: Pete Fatse doubled, Sean Halton and Erik Komatsu singled, and Matt Cline and Brock Kjeldgaard walked. Shawn Zarraga did not play. Brevard County play-by-play Through four innings, the teams combined for one baserunner, a walk from Byrd to Palm Beach's leadoff hitter in the 1st inning. BC never got more than one runner on at a time until the 9th: Brevard County Top 9th Brock Kjeldgaard strikes out swinging. Peter Fatse doubles (2) on a fly ball to right fielder Alex Castellanos. Josh Prince reaches on a fielder's choice out, pitcher Arquimedes Nieto to third baseman Niko Vasquez. Peter Fatse out at 3rd. Matt Cline walks. Josh Prince to 2nd. Pitcher Change: David Carpenter replaces Arquimedes Nieto. Erik Komatsu flies out to center fielder D'Marcus Ingram. Arquimedes Nieto--now that's a hell of a name.

We don't take this into consideration in the ratings, or else Salome would have tumbled long before this month's rankings. I addressed this in the Gamel thread. -
Thanks for the first-hand reports, guys. Always great to read.

What you're really saying is that if Scooter's current line was his final line--if he continues doing what he's done up to this point through the end of the year--he's a top-ten prospect. And you'll almost certainly be right, but it's only July. Speaking for myself only, I think Peralta has an edge in stuff and control. Obviously, the results haven't borne out the former so far this year, but there's also the danger of letting Scarpetta's recent run of dominance too heavily affect his ranking. -
Final: @AZL Brewers 4, AZL Athletics 3AZL Brewers box score A rehabbing LaTroy Hawkins got the start and allowed a run in two innings, after which Brooks Hall took over. Hall went 4.2 innings, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out five and walking two. Eric Farris was 2-4 with two doubles and Robbie Garvey was 2-3 with a triple. Max Walla was 1-1 with a walk and a HBP, and Tyler Roberts' video-game numbers took a hit with an 0-4 night. Former Brewers draft pick Jemile Weeks, also on a rehab assignment, led off for the A's and went 0-4. AZL Brewers play-by-play Hall's two walks came to the last two batters he faced. He was relieved by Dexter Bobo, who struggled with his control, walking in the tying run, but managed to stanch the flow of free passes before the A's could take the lead: AZL Athletics Top 7th Diomendes Lopez flies out to right fielder Maxwell Walla. Jonatan Santana grounds out, shortstop Yadiel Rivera to first baseman Jason Rogers. Zhi Fang Pan walks. Jemile Weeks walks. Zhi Fang Pan to 2nd. Pitcher Change: Dexter Bobo replaces Brooks Hall. Royce Consigli walks. Zhi Fang Pan to 3rd. Jemile Weeks to 2nd. Travis Buck walks. Zhi Fang Pan scores. Jemile Weeks to 3rd. Royce Consigli to 2nd. Miguel Marte grounds out, second baseman Nick Shaw to first baseman Jason Rogers.

BC edges Charlotte to take series Frank Longobardo/Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. - Opportune hitting and an outstanding start by Dan Merklinger propelled the Brevard County Manatees to a 4-3 win over the Charlotte Stone Crabs on Saturday night at Space Coast Stadium. Merklinger threw eight shutout innings and struck out nine, while allowing three hits and walking three. He extended his consecutive scoreless innings streak to 14 1/3 innings. Brevard County (13-9) managed just three hits on the night, but they were all timely as they were all in the third inning as the Manatees plated three in the frame. Matt Cline led the inning off with an double and then moved to second on a wild pitch. Scott Krieger then doubled to right to score Cline and put Brevard County on the board. Two batters later, Shawn Zarraga would walk and then Brock Kjeldgaard singled to center to drive in Krieger to make it 2-0. Then with Michael Roberts up, an errant pick-off attempt to first by Charlotte's Matthew Moore advanced Zarraga to third and Kjeldgaard to second. A RBI ground out from Roberts would then give the Manatees a 3-0 lead. Brevard County would get another run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly from Krieger that scored Steve Braun and that run would prove to be very beneficial. Jeremy Jeffress relieved Merklinger in the ninth and had trouble finishing out the game as he allowed five singles and three runs as Charlotte (9-14) cut Brevard County's lead to 4-3. But with two outs and runners on first and second, Jeffress was able to punch out Christopher Merrill on a called strike three to preserve the Manatees victory. With the win, Brevard County took three of four games from the first half winners of the South Division. Also with losses by both Tampa and Daytona, the Manatees moved into second place in the North Division and are just one game back of the Yankees for the division lead. The Manatees will now hit the road for their longest road trip of the season with ten-game trip spanning over 11 days. Brevard County will take on the Palm Beach Cardinals for a four-game series beginning on Sunday. Then the Manatees will travel to Fort Myers for a four-game set against the Miracle, starting on July 22. The road trip will conclude with two games against the St. Lucie Mets, beginning on July 27. The next home game for the Manatees will be on Thursday, July 29 at 7:05 p.m. against the St. Lucie Mets.

Final: @Nashville 5, Omaha 2Nashville tops Omaha 5-2 on Saturday night Nashville Sounds NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds beat the division-rival Omaha Royals 5-2 on Saturday night at historic Greer Stadium in front of 8,083 fans in the third game of a four game set. Marty McLeary (3-6) threw his second quality start for the win, allowing two runs while scattering eight hits with two strikeouts in six innings pitched. Over his last three starts, the veteran right-hander is 2-0 with a 1.56 ERA (3 ER/17.1 IP). Mike McClendon continued to dominate in relief, striking out three over three shutout innings to earn his first Triple-A save. Coming into tonight's game hitting .400 (22-for-55) over his last 18 games, Adam Stern continued to stay hot for Nashville going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Erick Almonte also added two hits, his third multi-hit game in a row. The Sounds jumped on the board in the opening frame as Nashville third baseman Mat Gamel crushed the first pitch he saw over the left field wall for 1-0 lead. The long ball was Gamel's fourth of the year and first since July 2. The Royals knotted the contest at 1-1 in the next frame, as Mike Moustakas singled for his first Triple-A hit and later scored on a two-out RBI double by second baseman Marc Maddox. Nashville upped the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the second inning after Joe Koshansky reached base with a single to begin the inning and later scored on a Ray Olmedo fielder's choice. Stern then singled home Olmedo for the second run of the inning. The Royals came within a run in the top of the third inning as Alex Gordon doubled off the wall in left center to bring home Ed Lucas. Nashville extended the lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Stern homered over the right field wall, his third tater of the season. Later in the inning, designated hitter Almonte smacked a hard hit ball off Moustakas' glove that ricocheted into left field, bringing home Norris Hopper from third base for a final 5-2 lead. Omaha starting pitcher Philip Humber (4-6) was removed from the game with two outs in the bottom of the second inning after he was hit with a Martin Maldonado line drive on his non-pitching shoulder. Following Humber, Federico Castaneda allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and four strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings pitched. The Sounds and Royals wrap up their four-game series with Sunday evening's 6:35 pm CT finale at historic Greer Stadium. Left-hander Sam Narron (4-3, 2.88) takes the hill for the Sounds against Omaha right-hander Manauris Baez (2-1, 4.05). Nashville box score Hey, a Phil Humber sighting. Nice job by McClendon. Gamel committed a throwing error, his 10th error of the year. Nashville play-by-play Omaha was only down by one in the 4th and had runners on first and second with no outs when a sac bunt attempt went horribly wrong: Omaha Top 4th Marc Maddox reaches on throwing error by third baseman Mat Gamel. Cody Clark singles on a ground ball to left fielder Adam Stern. Marc Maddox to 2nd. David Lough bunt pops into double play, pitcher Marty McLeary to third baseman Mat Gamel to shortstop Luis Cruz. Marc Maddox out at 3rd. Cody Clark out at 2nd. David Lough to 1st. Ed Lucas grounds into a force out, shortstop Luis Cruz to second baseman Ray Olmedo. David Lough out at 2nd.

Final: @Brevard County 4, Charlotte 3Brevard County box score As noted above, Jeremy Jeffress made the 9th inning far too interesting, nearly blowing a four-run lead. He gave up three runs on five hits, walking none and fanning one. Dan Merklinger was phenomenal, going eight innings and striking out nine while walking three and surrendering three hits. Scott Krieger's recent hot streak (multiple hits in each of his last five games) got him moved up to third in the order, where he went 1-3 with a double and a sac fly. Matt Cline was 1-3 with a walk, the only Manatee on more than once. Erik Komatsu did not play. Brevard County play-by-play The Manatees' three-run 4th: Brevard County Bottom 4th Matt Cline singles on a line drive to left fielder Christopher Murrill. With Scott Krieger batting, wild pitch by Matthew Moore, Matt Cline to 2nd. Scott Krieger doubles (5) on a line drive to right fielder Reid Fronk. Matt Cline scores. Sean Halton called out on strikes. Shawn Zarraga walks. Brock Kjeldgaard singles on a line drive to center fielder Isaias Velasquez. Scott Krieger scores. Shawn Zarraga to 2nd. With Michael Roberts batting, throwing error by Matthew Moore on the pickoff attempt, Shawn Zarraga to 3rd. Brock Kjeldgaard to 2nd. Michael Roberts grounds out, second baseman Matthew Hall to first baseman Michael Sheridan. Shawn Zarraga scores. Brock Kjeldgaard to 3rd. Juan Sanchez lines out to second baseman Matthew Hall. Jeffress's inning: Charlotte Top 9th Tim Beckham singles on a ground ball to left fielder Brock Kjeldgaard. Reid Fronk lines out to second baseman Steve Braun. Stephen Vogt singles on a line drive to center fielder Juan Sanchez. Tim Beckham to 3rd. Greg Sexton singles on a line drive to center fielder Juan Sanchez. Tim Beckham scores. Stephen Vogt to 2nd. Matt Spring singles on a line drive to left fielder Brock Kjeldgaard. Stephen Vogt scores. Greg Sexton to 2nd. Michael Sheridan flies out to right fielder Scott Krieger. Anthony Scelfo singles on a line drive to left fielder Brock Kjeldgaard. Greg Sexton scores. Matt Spring to 2nd. Christopher Murrill called out on strikes. You'd think, given the lack of walks and the high hit total, that Jeffress got unlucky, but he gave up five line drives.

Final: @Nashville 5, Omaha 4Koshansky, Sounds walk off with win over Royals Nashville Sounds NASHVILLE, Tenn. - First baseman Joe Koshansky' s second home run of the evening, a leadoff blast in the bottom of the tenth inning, propelled the Nashville Sounds to a dramatic 5-4 victory over the first-place Omaha Royals on Friday evening at historic Greer Stadium. Koshansky's game-winning blast, which came on the first pitch he saw from Royals reliever Blaine Hardy, was the slugger's team-leading 15th of the year and provided Nashville with its 14th last at-bat victory of the season. The slugger's walkoff heroics became necessary after the Sounds gave up a two-run lead in the ninth. Nashville (49-43) improved to 5-5 in extra innings on the year while Omaha fell to 7-7 in extra frames. Koshansky's game-winning homer gave Sounds reliever Donovan Hand (1-0) his first career Triple-A victory. The right-hander worked a scoreless top of the tenth. Hardy (2-2) took the loss after surrendering the game-ender to cap off his two-plus innings of work for the Royals. Sounds starting pitcher Chase Wright took a bittersweet no-decision after he allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits over seven innings of work, departing with Nashville holding a 4-2 lead. It marked the eighth time in his last 12 outings that the southpaw held the opposition to one earned run or fewer. With his eighth quality start of the year, Wright lowered his home ERA to a miniscule 1.88 in his eight outings in Music City this season (10er/48.0ip). The Nashville defense backed Wright by turning a season-high four double plays on the evening. The game got off to a late start following a 47-minute rain delay. Omaha took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning against Wright. Kurt Mertins led off with a single to center then scored one batter later when Ed Lucas dropped a sacrifice bunt up the third base line. On the play, Wright overthrew first base to allow Mertins to come all the way around to score in unearned fashion. Koshansky propelled the home team to a 2-1 lead in the fourth when he belted a two-run homer off the top of the clubhouse building in center field. The blast came against Omaha starter Luis Mendoza. Brendan Katin, who opened the frame with a single up the middle, also scored on the longball. Adam Stern (2-for-4) increased the Nashville lead to 4-1 in the sixth when his opposite-field, two-out triple to left-center off Mendoza plated Erick Almonte and Ben Johnson. Royals catcher Manny Pina pulled the visitors back within 4-2 in the seventh with a mammoth solo homer to left-center off Wright that cleared the 80' foot high guitar-shaped scoreboard. The tater was the backstop's second of the year. Omaha didn't go down without a fight in the ninth, rallying to tie the contest against PCL saves leader Chris Smith. The Royals loaded the bases with no outs on a pair of singles sandwiched around a walk. David Lough followed by recovering from an 0-2 count to draw an RBI walk before Alex Gordon lined a game-tying single to right on the first pitch he saw from Smith, knotting the contest at 4-4. With the sacks still full and none out, Smith - who suffered his third blown save of the year - recovered to retire Kila Ka'ahuie on a popout then struck out Mike Moustakas and Jai Miller in succession to escape the jam without further damage. The teams continue the series with a 6:35 p.m. meeting on Saturday night. Right-hander Marty McLeary (2-6, 9.44) will make the start for the Sounds to face Omaha right-hander Philip Humber (4-5, 4.60). A spectacular fireworks show will follow Saturday's on-field action and hundreds of area Scouts will spend the evening at the ballpark during the team's annual Camp Greer overnight event. Nashville box score We always get "historic Greer Stadium", but I like when "guitar-shaped scoreboard" gets worked in too. Congrats to Hand and Koshansky. Entering the season, I bet Mat Gamel (0-4, BB) didn't foresee at least eight guys being promoted from Nashville to Milwaukee ahead of him. Mitch Stetter tossed 0.2 scoreless innings. Nashville play-by-play

Manatees' Kjeldgaard drives in seven Robert Emrich/Special to MLB.com A little change went a long way for Brock Kjeldgaard on Friday night. Kjeldgaard slugged a pair of homers and knocked in a career-high seven runs as the Brevard County Manatees pulled away for a 15-7 victory over the Charlotte Stone Crabs. A 31st-round pick by the Brewers in 2005, Kjeldgaard finished a triple shy of the cycle for the Manatees (12-9), who are in second place in the Florida State League North Division. His previous career best was four RBIs, accomplished most recently on June 10, 2009 for Class A Wisconsin. The 24-year-old first baseman opened the scoring for Brevard County with an RBI single in the second inning. He smacked a three-run blast in the fourth and another in the seventh before capping his big night with a double in the eighth. Kjeldgaard had been batting .219 with four RBIs in his previous nine games. "Just before the game, my hitting coach [Dwayne Hosey] made a few adjustments," he said. "I raised my hands a bit and those pitches that I had been missing the last few days I hit pretty good." Scott Krieger contributed a pair of hits and scored four times, while Shawn Zarraga was 3-for-5 with a double, three runs scored and two RBIs. Kjeldgaard credited the pair for setting the table for him. "That was big," he said. "It's nice to hit when there are runners on base. It gives you a little more when you know you can drive somebody in. When you're always hitting with guys on base, it sure helps you out." Reliever Mike Ramlow (1-2) earned the win, yielding two hits and striking out one over three scoreless innings. "He came in after they scored a few runs and he shut the door," Kjeldgaard said. "At that point, it was a close game. We were kind of going back and forth and then we scored a few more and he shut them down. That's always going to be a good thing." Former first-round pick Tim Beckham went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for Charlotte. Leadoff man Chris Murrill reached base three times and scored twice. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/images/2010/07/16/I4f3xegP.jpg (Scott Jontes/MiLB.com)

Manatees crush Stone Crabs 15-7 Frank Longobardo/Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. - Brock Kjeldgaard led the way by going 4-for-5 with two homers, a double and seven RBI as the Brevard County Manatees pounded the Charlotte Stone Crabs 15-7 on Friday night at Space Coast Stadium in front of 1,898 fans. Six Manatees had at least two hits or more, while four drove in at least two runs. Brevard County (12-9) was 7-for-17 with runners in scoring position and pounded out 18 hits. The Manatees also benefitted from three Charlotte (9-13) errors as the Stone Crabs have committed eight errors so far in the series. With one out in the bottom of the fifth and the game tied at 5-5, Sergio Miranda started a big inning off with a bunt single. Scott Krieger followed Miranda with a single and then Shawn Zarraga cleared the bases with a double - one of his three hits on the night - down the right-field line to make a 7-5 game. Stone Crabs starter Frank De Los Santos exited after the Zarraga double and Rayner Oliveros came in and struck out the first batter that he faced, Kjeldgaard, but it was a dropped third strike and catcher Matt Spring's throw sailed over the first baseman's head as Kjeldgaard advanced to second and Zarraga went to third. A walk by Steve Braun would load the bases, but Brevard County could only manage one more run in the inning on a sacrifice fly by Matt Cline to take an 8-5 lead. The Manatees blew the game wide open in the seventh as Kjeldgaard and Sean Halton each hit three-run bombs to give Brevard County a 14-5 lead. R.J. Seidel started on the mound for Brevard County and went just four innings and allowed five runs (four earned) on four hits, while walking three. Mike Ramlow earned the win in relief as he threw three scoreless innings. Cline, Erik Komatsu, Halton and Krieger had two hits apiece. Cline and Zarraga also drove in two, while Halton had three RBI. Brevard County will look to take three of four from the first half champions of the South Division with Saturday's series finale scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Dan Merklinger (3-4, 4.81) will get the start for the Manatees, while the Stone Crabs will send Matthew Moore (4-8, 4.75) to the hill.

Final: @AZL Padres 2, AZL Brewers 0AZL Brewers box score I keep thinking that Dane Amedee is a "college arm" because he went to LSU-Eunice, which I didn't initially realize was a junior college, but he's really just 19. Amedee put up quite a nice line tonight: 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 9 K, 1 HR. Unfortunately, the Brewers could manage only three hits, handing Amedee the loss. Justin Parker (1-3, HBP) and Joey Paciorek (0-2, BB, HBP) were the only Brewers on base more than one. Playing for the first time since 7/11 Demetrius McKelvie was 0-4 with two strikeouts, clinging tenuously to his below 50% strikeout rate, now 31 in 63 plate appearances. Tyler Roberts and Max Walla did not play. AZL Brewers play-by-play The Brewers' best chance to score came in the 1st: AZL Brewers Top 1st Eric Farris grounds out, first baseman Joe Agreste to pitcher Mark Hardy. Nick Shaw grounds out, second baseman Ryan Skube to first baseman Joe Agreste. Kenneth Allison doubles (3) on a fly ball to right fielder Corey Adamson. Joseph Paciorek walks. Justin Parker strikes out swinging. They didn't put two runners on again until the 9th, when McKelvie came up with two outs representing the go-ahead run: AZL Brewers Top 9th Nick Shaw grounds out, second baseman Ryan Skube to first baseman Joe Agreste. Kenneth Allison flies out to center fielder Mykal Stokes. Joseph Paciorek hit by pitch. Justin Parker singles on a ground ball to shortstop Paul Bingham. Joseph Paciorek to 2nd. With Demetrius McKelvie batting, wild pitch by Stalyn Valdez, Joseph Paciorek to 3rd. Demetrius McKelvie pops out to third baseman Bryan Altman. At least he made contact.

Final: @Brevard County 15, Charlotte 7Brevard County box score Wow, that's a lot of runs for Space Coast Stadium. The Manatees drew only one walk, committed three errors, and their pitching staff put up a collective 4/6 K/BB, but 18 hits goes a long way. Brock Kjeldgaard isn't having a very good season, but he had a very good night, clobbering two homers and a double while going 4-5, driving in seven, and scoring three runs. Sean Halton also homered as part of his 2-5 night. Shawn Zarraga was 3-5 with a double, and Erik Komatsu was 2-5 with a double. R.J. Seidel bumped it and allowed five runs in four innings. Brevard County play-by-play Let's highlight the six-run 7th: Brevard County Bottom 7th Scott Krieger reaches on fielding error by right fielder Kyeong Kang. Scott Krieger to 2nd. Shawn Zarraga singles on a ground ball to left fielder Christopher Murrill. Scott Krieger to 3rd. Brock Kjeldgaard homers (10) on a fly ball to left center field. Scott Krieger scores. Shawn Zarraga scores. Steve Braun grounds out, third baseman Greg Sexton to first baseman Michael Sheridan. Matt Cline singles on a line drive to left fielder Christopher Murrill. Pitcher Change: Justin Garcia replaces Rayner Oliveros. Juan Sanchez singles on a line drive to center fielder Isaias Velasquez. Matt Cline to 2nd. Erik Komatsu pops out to second baseman Anthony Scelfo. Sean Halton homers (8) on a fly ball to left field. Matt Cline scores. Juan Sanchez scores. Sergio Miranda grounds out, shortstop Tim Beckham to first baseman Michael Sheridan.

battlekow replied to Crash2303's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Gamel's line adjusted for park and luck, with requisite caveats about the reliability of MiLB batted-ball classification: .321/.403/.455. He's got a 25% line-drive rate. I think he's fine. -
Here's LHP Bobby Bramhall wearing something called a Phantom Weight, which apparently promises to increase his velocity to 96 mph (riiiiiight): http://c0013424.cdn1.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com/x2_1f60300

Final: AZL Brewers 12, @AZL Cubs 6AZL Brewers box score Tyler Roberts is really making me feel bad now. He was 3-4 with a homer and a walk today, raising his triple slash line to .453/.525/.755 on the year. There's no one important playing catcher for Helena--promote the kid already. Yeah, so what if he had three(!) passed balls today? He can work on that anywhere. Yadiel Rivera was also 3-4 with a walk. Jason Rogers was 2-3 with two walks, but both hits were singles; the big first baseman surprisingly has only three extra-base hits so far in the hot Arizona air. Max Walla was 1-5 with two strikeouts. Keeping Eric Farris company on the rehab front, LaTroy Hawkins and Bobby Bramhall both turned in scoreless appearances. R.J. Johnson made his pro debut, striking out two in the 9th but allowing a two-run homer. AZL Brewers play-by-play Walla and Robbie Garvey each doubled a runner off first base.

Final: Omaha 3, @Nashville 1Royals quiet Sounds, 3-1, on Thursday night Nashville Sounds NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds lost to the division-rival Omaha Royals, 3-1, on Taco Bell Throwback Thursday at Greer Stadium in the opener of a four-game series. Continuing his dominance against Nashville this season, Gaby Hernandez (7-5) earned the win after allowing one run on four hits while fanning a season-high 11 batters over 6 2/3 innings. Hernandez moved to 3-0 with a 0.46 ERA (1er/19.2ip) in three starts against the Sounds. In 16 starts against the rest of the PCL, he is 4-5 with a 6.65 ERA (69er/90.2ip). Royals All-Star first baseman Kila Ka'aihue added to his team-leading RBI total, driving home all three Omaha runs on the night. Nashville falls to 48-43 with the loss, as every member of the Sounds lineup struck out, totaling a season-high 15 times. Omaha got on the board to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Royals third baseman Alex Gordon smacked a leadoff triple down the first base line into the right field corner to reach base. Ka'aihue followed with an RBI groundout to second base to score Gordon from third for the first score of the game. The Royals added another run in the next inning for a 2-0 advantage. After Chris Waters retired the first two hitters to begin the frame, Omaha loaded the bases with a single, Joe Koshansky fielding error, and Gordon walk. Ka'aihue then recorded his second RBI of the game by picking up a bases loaded walk to score Ed Lucas from third. After Gordon was hit by a pitch, Ka'aihue did more damage in the Omaha seventh, as the Royals first baseman smacked a two-out double to score Gordon from first base for a 3-0 deficit. The Sounds scored their only run in the next frame to cut the lead to 3-1. Nashville designated hitter Erick Almonte doubled to center with two outs to reach base and scored on another doubled from Ray Olmedo. Nashville began a late rally in the bottom of the ninth, as the first two batters reached base. Koshansky walked to lead off the inning while Almonte reached base on a weak infield grounder to third. With Anderson De La Rosa representing the winning run at the plate, Omaha reliever Josh Rupe retired the next three consecutive batters while fanning De La Rosa to end the ballgame. In his team-leading ninth quality start, Waters (5-6) picked up the tough loss. The left-hander allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits and four walks with four strikeouts over seven innings. Tim Dillard provided 1 2/3 innings of shutout ball in relief, walking one while striking out two. Mitch Stetter added 1/3 frames and a strikeout. The Sounds and Royals continue at 7:05 pm CT on Friday evening at Greer Stadium in the second game of a four-game set. Left-hander Chase Wright (6-5, 3.73) takes the hill for Nashville against right-hander Luis Mendoza (5-7, 4.57). Be sure to arrive early, as the first 2,000 fans through the turnstiles will receive a premium Sounds hat, thanks to Vanderbilt Sports Medicine. Nashville box score The Omaha 2-3-4-5 of Rick Ankiel, Gordon, Ka'aihue, and Mike Moustakas (making his AAA debut) sounds pretty fierce. Lorenzo Cain was 0-3 with a walk, and Mat Gamel was 1-4. Brendan Katin was 1-4 with a double and two strikeouts. Nashville play-by-play

Final: @Brevard County 9, Charlotte 6Brevard County box score Despite another lackluster start from Wily Peralta (5 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 1HBP, 1 K), the Manatees rode six runs late runs to victory. Pete Fatse led off and led off well, going 4-5 with a double. Scott Krieger continues to mash when he makes contact, going 2-3 with a double and a homer and--naturally--a sac bunt.
