  1. From JSOnline: Parra, Balfour called up, Sheets to DL, Spurling on Bereavement List
  2. Hi everyone, I had to pull out of a road trip with a bunch of friends and can no longer use these tickets. They're in the Field Box section of Great American Ballpark (face value - $32.00 each) and next to other Brewer fans. I'd be interested in selling them, or trading them for Miller Park game tickets or bobbleheads. Please PM me if you are interested. Thanks! (Edit: I should clarify - I can't use these at all, so I'm just trying to recoup something from them. I'll consider any reasonable offer--and possibly those that are unreasonable.)
  3. Wow, after reading the title of this thread and a couple of the first examples I was surprised about how bad it's gotten for Dessens.... Funny stuff.
  4. The Cubs or Cardinals would be picking someone up to try to keep up with the Brewers, not vice versa. I don't think what those teams do has any effect on the Brewers roster. The Brewers might make a move, but it won't be caused by the move of another team in the division.
  5. One thing I've always been curious about that I hope someone can answer: how is it decided whether a draft pick is sent to Helena as opposed to Arizona (or vice versa). Is one more advanced than the other? Or is it because one league is considered a "hitters" league and the other a "pitchers" league? Thanks in advance!
  6. In my experience, as long as you can give a good reason for each job change it's not as big of a deal. In your case, a 50% pay raise is a VERY good reason. Go for it and don't look back.
  7. After a quick Google search, it looks like Ted Williams once reached 16 straight plate appearances, but I can't confirm that.
  8. I love today's lineup and would be happy with this 1-7 every day (obviously assuming Prince is normally at 1B). Hart RF Hardy SS Braun 3B Fielder DH Hall CF Jenkins LF Estrada C Counsell 2B Graffy 1B When Weeks comes back, I'd be happy with 1-5 the same nearly every day and 7 Estrada. Against righties I'd go 6 Jenkins, 8 Weeks and against lefties 6 Weeks, 8 Mench. Play this lineup 5 days a week. Rinse and repeat.
  9. This has been public knowledge for over a week already. Luke Winn SI Article - May 30th ***The chatter amongst NBA folks is that James wants to stay in the draft; and according to him, it may not require a first-round guarantee to make it happen. James said he would strongly consider something akin to what former Texas guard Daniel Gibson received last season, which was an assurance from Cleveland that he would not slip past its pick in the second round, and then a guaranteed two-year deal once he was selected in that spot. "I'm just looking for a guarantee, that's all," said James.***
  10. I included a link to the main table from DraftExpress.com in my post above.
  11. Sit down before you read this. James was actually ranked #3. LINK Settle down. Keep in mind that these "rankings" were just of the measurable athleticism (Standing Vertical Jump, Max Vertical Jump, Bench Press, Lane Agility Drill, 3/4 Court Sprint) of each player, and is NOT a ranking of how the players will be chosen nor how they fared against one another in scrimmages. Here's the top 10: 1. D.J. Strawberry - Maryland 2. Russell Carter - Notre Dame 3. Dominic James - Marquette 4. Mike Conley, Jr. - Ohio State 5. Carl Landry - Purdue 6. Dustin Salisbery - Temple 7. Thaddeus Young - Georgia Tech 8. Jason Smith - Colorado State 9. Ron Lewis - Ohio State 10. Rodney Stuckey - Eastern Washington And where the players likely in the top 10 picks "rank": Oden - #62 Durant - #78 B. Wright - #66 Horford - #21 Noah - #43 J. Wright - #66 Hawes - #72 Brewer - #29
  12. Well put, GAME. I was about to post something very similar. If the game was only luck, there wouldn't be people (more than just a handful) that make poker their only source of income. Actually, his son Todd is a pretty skilled player as well: LINK
  13. I play myself, but poker requires no athleticism at all. If a sport is determined by your criteria, then that contest where the last person touching a new vehicle wins that vehicle is also a sport. That also requires stamina, discipline, etc. and is a competition. Poker is in the same category as chess, checkers, any other card game, etc.: a game of skill.
  14. Schlitz, Thanks for linking back to that article. It's a great read and I agree 100%. Whether it's ignorance, laziness, or just an inconsiderate person, they deserve that fine. As far as the original poster, you shouldn't feel bad for speaking up as you did. If there were more people like you that cared about the little things, we'd all be happier.
  15. DING, DING, DING. We have a winner! Tell him what he's won... I guess now we'll see what Capellan is really worth.
  16. My final thoughts from tonight's (last night's?) game: Maddux and Yost must be incredible motivational speakers. Each time they went out to the mound, it served its purpose and killed any rally the Cubs started. Yost may or may not get credit for it, but he pushed all the right buttons tonight. Jenkins is an incredible defensive outfielder. He's also helping this team much more by shortening his stroke and looking for the opposite field single as opposed to swinging for the fences each at bat. Bill Hall will be solid in CF by the All-Star break. He's looking more and more comfortable out there each day, even if he doesn't make every play. It was the right call to move him to the outfield and get both him and Hardy on the field at the same time. As good as Braun is looking in Nashville, it's best to leave him there right now and not try to fix what's not broken. All I could think of while Prince's GW HR was in the air was "I took him deep, Daddy". Most importantly....beating the Cubs is fun. Let's do it again tomorrow!
  17. I'm way too wired to go to sleep now. Anyone interested in getting this thread to 2000? I'm kidding....sort of.
  18. Does anyone miss Jose Capellan yet? **crickets**
  19. Howard: .303 vs RHP, .295 vs LHP LINK I wouldn't call that considerable.
  20. At least they haven't suggested "Prince and the New Power Generation."
  21. From the PhilliesPhans.com forum.... Pretty bold statement by the Philly fans.
  22. Brewers Nearly Grounded by Mechanical Failure MILWAUKEE - It almost went from bad to worse for the Milwaukee Brewers on their way back from Southern California on Thursday afternoon. After going 1-5 on their most recent road trip, the team charter experienced mechanical problems. Eager to get back to Miller Park after the tough week, manager Ned Yost called on super-utility man Bill Hall once again. After sizing up the situation, Hall picked up the plane and threw it--and his teammates--back to Milwaukee. "I knew he could do it," Yost said. "I've called on him in all kinds of tough situations all year and he's always come through for us. He's a fighter, and a gamer, and a hard-worker." As he has all year, Hall took the success in stride. "It was nothing really. I just needed to get a bit of a running start." The Brewers start an extended homestand with a three-game series against the New York Mets on Friday.
  23. This thread reminds me of this website so much, and I love it. "There are no steroids in baseball, only players Bill Hall has breathed on."
  24. I love that we're going against a guy who's named after the Cubs Spring Training Facility.
  25. I'm not much for moral victories, but I completely agree with this statement. Even if they don't win tonight, this will be a "lesson" for the young kids for the rest of the year.
