  1. They wouldn't necessarily need to divide the teams geographically. The schools are close enough in proximity that they could do something similar to what the ACC does for football (after all, you would only need a split for football) and have divisions that are not necessarily split geographically.
  2. Says a source to Ben Maller: http://benmaller.com/archives/2010/02/01/source-pitt-headed-to-big-10/ There have been whispers about it for awhile. Could be the start of a chain reaction similar to a few years ago when Boston College, Miami, and Virginia Tech left the Big East to move to the ACC.
  3. I know this was from a few days ago, but some facts here need to be clarified a little bit. I'm guessing you don't follow the NBA at all. Wesley Matthews has started 19 games for the Utah Jazz this year and the Jazz are 13-6 in those games. Even though CJ Miles is back from injury now and Wesley is no longer starting, he's still one of the first off the bench. Also, Wesley is ranked as one of the top 10 rookies so far on the NBA.com rookie report.
  4. jjfan, Your list of majors isn't entirely accurate. Although the official athletic website does indeed say "Undecided" for a number of the Marquette players, it should probably be read as "Undeclared". Just because they haven't yet filled out the paperwork to officially declare the major doesn't mean they don't know what they're doing. A good example is Cubillan, as was already mentioned in this thread. As far as Maymon goes, it's tough to see a situation where the player doesn't see the big picture. Lazar Hayward had even less playing time and production his freshman year, but became a 3 year starter and will likely end up as one of the 10 most prolific scorers in Marquette history. This includes his time where he had to play out of position. I have a feeling that if Chris Otule were not out for the year, or if Liam McMorrow had not been stricken with a career-ending condition, that the minutes would not be at the 5 for Maymon, but rather as Hayward's understudy at the 4. Either way, Jeronne would have been the likely starter at the 4 next year (and there's really no difference between the 2, 3, and 4 in the offense Buzz employs) had he stuck it out.
  5. No weaknesses... We have a problem in Houston
  6. What a great interview! Great read. Milwaukee loves ya right back, Brooks! (Can't you guys get him to sub on your BF.net softball team? I'm sure it would be ok with you guys if he wanted to pitch. I can only imagine how far a softball could go off his bat.)
  7. Pretty much spot on with this analysis!
  8. I'll say 10-12. The 9 game road trip is going to be tough. The Mets and the Phillies are damn good, and I've read an article from a sportswriter who believes that the Astros don't have any holes. (This is going to be funny all year long, especially when they're struggling towards the end of the year.)
  9. A San Diego trade without TGJ becoming a Padre? Shame on you! Ha ha.
  10. Congrats on making such an important choice. I don't think you could have gone wrong either way, but it's still probably one of the most important choices of your life. I had the same decision to make at that point in my life and while I'm sure I would have been happy, I couldn't imagine where I'd be now had I chosen differently.
  11. Pace and Opponent Adjusted Defense (points per 100 possessions): from kenpom.com Wisconsin Badgers 2004 86.8 (ranked 8th in D1) 2005 88.2 (13) 2006 94.9 (67) 2007 85.7 (6) 2008 82.8 (2) 2009 95.0 (78) These statistics don't go back to Bennett's days, but I don't think Bennett's teams could be that much better than last year's team. This shows a significant drop from last year, especially painful when you consider the last two games were lost in overtime.
  12. I'd favor another wild card, with the assumption that it would add a "Wild Card" round. Having only 5 of 16 (or 14) teams make the playoffs still makes the regular season meaningful but this would also add additional meaning to each position. The race for positions would add excitement in itself. Also, it would reward Division winners with a little time off to get their rotation in order and to rest players.
  13. I'm not sure if anyone here watches America's Got Talent on NBC (most shows are on during weeknight Brewer games), but one of the finalists is Wisconsin's own Eli Mattson. Eli's bio He's an extremely talented singer and pianist originally from Door County who has "paid his dues" playing in bars and clubs around the country. Don't take my word for it, check him out on YouTube. (His rendition of Mark Cohn's "Walking in Memphis" is one of my favorites.) The next show is tomorrow (Wednesday) night at 8pm Central, and the next round of voting starts at 8:55 CT that night. If Brewer fans can get behind a native son the way we did for Ryan Braun and Corey Hart's All-Star voting, we might be able to help Eli win this thing. Even if you don't watch the show, please take some time to vote the max 10 times while you're watching the Crew beat the Pirates!

  16. The season series is still tied.

  18. Keep Torres as the closer, if he still has the confidence and the mindset to handle the 9th. He seems like a pretty level personality so I think it's probable that he won't get too low on himself and lose confidence. However, I'd love to have Gallardo in the high leverage situations that present themselves in the 6th, 7th, or 8th innings. Many times, those are the key outs in the game to get and it would be nice to have a Marmol-like guy to come in and put out any fires.
  19. You forgot "iPod-changing while hauling cow intestines guy" Seriously though, glad to hear you're ok. I imagine it shook you up pretty good.
  20. Sounds like just another low-risk, high-reward signing. Sometimes they work (Gabe Kapler, Cirillo from a couple of years ago), and sometimes they don't and you move on with little consequence (Jeff Weaver, Julian Tavarez). I'm not getting myself too excited about this either way.
  21. Very cool. If you don't mind me asking, how long has he been an umpire? What other levels has he been at? It's always interesting to me to hear about the background story and the struggle on the way up. As an aside, I'd say the umpires did a solid job on Monday night. I didn't notice them at all, and I'd guess a Cardinals fan would say the same thing.
  22. Bogut will be #1 in my book for a long time for his high fives to imaginary teammates after sinking a free throw in a (stop me if you've heard this before) meaningless late-season game where the Bucks were down by a ton. If you haven't seen it, check it out on YouTube.
  23. I think we've gotta give him a break on this one. He's still heartbroken that Yo might be out for the year, and in protest refuses to type his name.
  24. Braun is within striking distance of a starting OF spot in the All-Star game. He'd probably make it as a reserve, but help reward Ryan for a great season so far, and also for sticking around for the long haul. Also, it would be a great selling point to future free agents that small market Milwaukee has passionate enough fans to back their stars enough to have starters for two consecutive years. Link It takes less than 10 minutes to submit all 25 of your votes, and you can do it while watching the game. We can make a difference!
