  1. Oops. Because this site is so great, sometimes I forget to just check the Brewers home page for simple news. I'm sure this is nothing new to most of you, but for the few of you that might have been out of the loop the past few days, like myself, this was from an article posted yesterday by McCalvy: MINNEAPOLIS -- Brewers manager Ned Yost said the team was planning to activate second baseman Rickie Weeks from the disabled list Monday, but wouldn't say definitively where Weeks would hit in the lineup and hadn't decided who to send down to clear roster space. But the skipper dropped enough hints for a very educated guess: Corey Hart will stay in the leadoff hole, Weeks will bat eighth and either Gabe Gross or Tony Gwynn Jr. will be optioned to Triple-A Nashville. Yost and general manager Doug Melvin planned to meet Monday morning to determine the roster move. "It's going to be somebody who could get some at-bats," Yost said.
  2. Ollie, I was just going to ask the same thing. I guess I'm not so much interested in the activation of Weeks, moreso the demotion of someone....I saw Yost quoted as saying Weeks will start tonight, but has there been anything said definitively yet about who's going down?
  3. I just want to be a part of this. Man, I wish today was a day game, I can't wait any longer! I'd love to be able to get down to the park for today's game, but after being in attendance for all three games in the dome this weekend, and my stomach and all other major organs still recovering from dome dogs, TV will have to do. No matter what Yo does tonight though, it won't come close to actually witnessing Prince hit an inside the park homerun....I still can't believe it. Anyways, go get 'em kid, do yo thang!
  4. Interesting reasoning for the balk, but if that's the rule, it was an obvious call. I wonder though, what's the advantage of that? I assume it was written into rule because it somehow gives the team pitching an advantage by throwing to a 1B who isn't basically standing on the bag....I guess the reason would be because you could throw to a 1B standing next to the runner that is leading off? Wouldn't the runner still be able to make it back to 1st in time? If it's a rule it's a rule, I just wonder why.
  5. Maybe I was entertained with all of the Kum N' Go gas stations on the way. I hear ya on this one. Maybe it's just the little kid in me (or the male species), but I can't help but laugh everytime I drive out of state and see a Kum N' Go or a T&A station. One time we even saw a Pump N' Munch......those are the reasons that cameras were invented.
  6. I realize the fad may have worn off a little on the '82 retro bobbles, but I came across two extra Charlie Moore white pinstripe bobbles (my mom didn't want hers)....so, I'm wondering if anyone is interested in them? I'm looking to trade one of them for an extra Sutton 5", or some of the other future 5" games that I can't make it to or any of the full-sizes from seasons past, of which I'll pay a little extra in cash to even it out too (especially if you have an extra Daron & Bill bobble). PM me if you have anything to offer...we can either do the shipping trade, or I can just meet you at one of the future SGA full-size games. Thanks, Josh
  7. I guess I should have mentioned, besides Nebraska, I've always hated driving through Missouri, so I avoid that drive whenever I can. Stopping in North Platte, NE is something I would avoid too...the hotel we stayed at was adequate, but the town itself was a total, total dump. Four Corners wasn't as exciting as I thought it would be, in fact, it wasn't that exciting at all, and it was actually kind of sad in a way...but I'm still glad we stopped there anyways, since I'm a bit of a geography buff and I figured hey...when else am I ever going to be near here? If you're going through or near Oklahoma City at all, I highly, highly recommend stopping at the memorial and taking the tour....I heard it's changed in the last few years, but it's just one of those things that you have to see to really understand it I guess...
  8. As you know (I think you helped me with ideas in a previous thread) we drove from Apple-ton to Phoenix back in March for spring training. We took the Iowa-Nebraska-Denver-Durango, CO-Flagstaff route on the way there, and on the way back took NM-Amarillo-Ok City-Kansas-Iowa route. We didn't do too much stopping along the way, so I can't help with too much, but from what we did see, Denver looked like a really neat place to spend a night, though it doesn't sound like you're going that way. We thought all the statues of dinosaurs eating other dinosaurs in New Mexico was weird, since they looked kind of vicious and not kid-friendly, but we avoided those anyways. There is a crater thing not far from the AZ/NM border that I heard was pretty cool, my friend had already seen it though so we didn't stop again. Nebraska was the most boring part of the drive (at least west of Omaha anyways), since the "towns" were about two hours apart...but it did feel weird getting passed by a state trooper when I was already doing 80....you said you're from Iowa, so you know that stretch...but for some reason, it seemed to be a really busy stretch of interstate, so for Iowa, we were surprised at the traffic....same with New Mexico...a 2 lane interstate serving as the only major east/west roadway in a large sized state with exits spaced 30-45 miles apart was not a good idea...if there's an accident, you can be stuck there for hours (it took us almost a full day to get through New Mexico due to a Greyhound accident). Anyways, I can't offer much in the way of sightseeing, but reflecting back on our trip is fun...it was long (duh), but I'm still glad we did it. Driving through southern Colorado and through the Rockies was very, very neat. If you do stop in St. Louis though, I recommend the Bowling Hall of Fame and Musuem (if it's still there)....and also the Negro League Musuem in Kansas City is supposed to be excellent. As for your final destination, it could be worse...you could be going to Menasha, http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Let us know how it goes!
  9. I can't help with specifics, but I do know that there are a few places you can send in your memory card to get updated rosters, I don't know about cost though. I second the nod for The Show '07 (for PS2 anyways)....it's basically the same as MVP...but with updated rosters and I think some expanded owner features. It's the only baseball game in the last couple years that I'd recommend, basically because it plays just like an updated MVP, which is what you're going for.
  10. Baseball's a funny game sometimes, isn't it? The last 3 flyouts to center were hit further than Prince's homerun.
  11. I'll take Jerry Garcia over Head On or Good Feet any day.
  12. While noticing empty seats behind home plate, I looked into the updated league attendance numbers as I like to from time to time. I'm sure it has to do more with playing series in Chicago, St. Louis and NY....but still, it's neat to see Milwaukee #5 in MLB road attendance.....perhaps they're more than just Wisconsin's team. 1.) Boston 2.) NY Yankees 3.) Chicago Cubs 4.) Colorado (?) 5.) Milwaukee
  13. And parkside21, good to meet you. (Were you relieved when I said 'yes, I am hawing'? ) Haha, I was. I saw you walk by me, and I thought "hmmm....that woman looks familiar......" Then I realized where I knew you from, a picture from one of the Fan Fest outings, or some bf.net event....so when I realized, I thought I might as well go introduce myself. Though, I wasn't sure because you weren't wearing any Sharpie apparel. Anyways, always fun to put a face to the names on here. Glad we got to see a great game and a Brewers win.
  14. Outstanding performance by Zimmerman. Colby, were you able to get to this game? Although I'm disappointed I had to miss him pitch yesterday, I'm looking forward to the UWSP / Carthage matchup today. Should make for a great atmosphere. It's the 3rd game of the day, estimated start time 4:15. I urge anyone to check it out if you're in the area.
  15. Here's to hoping Braun airmails his first throw to first (assuming it doesn't lead to a run). I would put that in blue, but I don't think I'm kidding.
  16. Colby, just another thanks for all that. I'll be sure to print it out and read it over the long weekend. It'll be something to keep me sane while surrounded by crazy family members who want to talk about Brett Favre every chance they get.
  17. I know I'm nitpicking, but I noticed a couple of mess-ups (though one may just be an inside joke) in the 2007 version of BA's Prospect Handbook when I was paging through it the other day. Minnesota Twins, Page 273, read the "Raw Power" blurb. Page 505, interesting spelling of the "New York - Penn League" I know no one is perfect, but you would think they would remember to at least read their headings before things go to print....rest assured, if this were an ESPN publication, New York would have been the first thing they proofread.
  18. Also, interesting to see that Jensen (from Apple-ton East) will be playing at Iowa. His brother (or maybe his cousin), Eric Jensen also played for East (class of '99), and went to Iowa on a football scholarship where he played tight end and had a brief stint in the NFL (he may still be floating around on a practice squad somewhere). I remember playing against his brother in 8th grade...kid was huge. This may be late notice, and probably already discussed elsewhere, but if you're in the area, check out this year's Division 3 NCAA World Series in Apple-ton over the weekend, starting Friday, May 25th. Wisconsin will be represented by two teams this year, Carthage and UW-Stevens Point. It's too bad UWSP and Carthage are both playing in the early games tomorrow, and I can't make them...I assume Zimmerman will pitch tomorrow, and I guess I'll have to hope to see him pitch on Monday or something.
  19. I had the chance to see Zimmerman pitch last year in the D3 college world series in Apple-ton in which he faced off against eventual winner Marietta and senior Mike Eisenberg...I think that was his name anyways..the kid from Marietta ended up being a 7th or 8th round pick for the Reds I believe, and also had another player drafted later on. Anyways, Zimmerman had great stuff (duh) and I think his fastball was consistently hitting 90-91 and may have touched 92 on the "in house" gun. His breaking stuff was very good, though for a point of comparison, Eisenberg's was better, but Zimmerman's broke harder. As for the Patrick (Bubba) Hunter name, I haven't seen him play baseball at all this spring...but if his character in baseball is similar to that of how he carries himself during hockey games (where he is also very talented), I'd see it as a pretty big red flag. Anyways, that's my two cents.
  20. I think he meant about giving Cordero the W. Someone would have to pitch after him.
  21. That Bill Hall thread was classic... Here's a few of the best things i've ever read on this forum: Bill Hall has perfected the 6-6-6 double play. Out of fear, Satan hands over this symbol to Bill Hall. Bill Hall doesn't sign autographs, he acknowledges receipt of your soul. Those were good ones. Most of my favorites are thanks to mothershipconnection in which he offers: - Bud Selig fought to keep Bill Hall out of the WBC, saying "we're trying to build bridges between nations, not crush them 500 feet to dead center". -The MLBPA has recently renamed itself "friends of Bill Hall". -Bill Hall doesn't believe in the American League. -Bill Hall has a VORP of "Holy %&*^!" -Bill Hall once hit a 5-run homer. Thanks to everyone that made that thread such a classic and still so much fun to read a year later. The pictures are so smart, and yet so tacky at the same time. Which, in a way is sort of a metaphor for the average brewerfan.net poster. 46 minutes!
  22. We're an hour away from the game, Brewers Nation is now on page 4 of the in-game thread, 85 posts strong, and there are only 15 posts in the Mets forum? If I were a Mets fan, I'd be embarrassed. This is going to be a tough series. I don't know about you guys, but I'm thinking about taking my pants off for the weekend.
  23. I think it's time for the Brewers to announce their presence with authority. Because the WOAH SOLVDD forum was mentioned earlier, I went back and re-read the "Can Bill Hall Pitch?" thread because I forgot how good it was. Which made me think...it's time for Bill Hall to announce his presence with authority..but then I realized.... Bill Hall is the authority.
  24. What do you get when you mix the Brewers with The Big Apple? Enjoy! http://shop.leinie.com/prodimg/b81.jpg (Besides a 2-1 series win of course)
  25. Just a crude look from ERAs, but it looks like the Mets have a solid bullpen, at least so far anyways. Here's to the end of that. Agreed on the Mets' board. Seems like a good group of fans, nonetheless, they're still the enemy. Let's hope Billy Hall and the boys have a strong taste for apples this week. Down with the Metropolitans!
