  1. I live right by El Paso, might try to catch the game they play against NMJC later in the month. Didn't realize we had a Brewer right by me.
  2. Jam - I suggest you take back the pants (wear sweats), bat (use some elses), batting glove (it's softball).... and invest in more beer. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Hope to hear some updates from these games.
  3. Billy playing some decent CF? Sounds like it, but I just turned it on.
  4. my firsrt careack at the drukn therad.
  5. steve are you the same one that did the frappr map for badgernation?
  6. That's a good one. Keep the updates coming. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  7. XM drops the ball again. They schedule a game and don't play it.
  8. are they playing? i'm writing a letter to xm right now to ask why it's not on 182. Delay in the game? It's scheduled to be on.
  9. supposed to be on xm182 for those with xm
  10. I'm lost. Does WHIP have something to do with BABIP or is this a totally seperate thing?
  11. listed at 6'0" 260lb....man he could become a serious blimp. Think he's gonna be able to keep the weight down?
  12. Ahhhh.......my first listening of Prince at bat for the year.
  13. It's scheduled to be on XM also....first one I'm gonna be able to hear. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  14. Does that mean you don't think WHIP is useful? Or are these xfips and babips related to whip? The fangraph was interesting. I just took a few pitchers and looked at them against the mlb average....seemed like a good way to get a grasp on what guys do compared to the average pitcher.
  15. WHIP - (walks + hits)/inning pitched The thing I don't under stand is how this stat is really used. Looking at relief pitchers there are, for instance, a few guys right around 2.70 era, but the WHIP ranges from 0.95-1.35. There are about 10 pitchers in the above range (for ERA and WHIP). What do those ERA/WHIP combos tell you about the two extremes? As long as they are all at 2.70 ERA, does the WHIP matter? I always think of ERA as a very important stat. How does WHIP fit in the mix? Is WHIP less important for a strikeout pitcher? Is it more reflective of a pitcher's control? Is WHIP better understood in conjunction with some other set of stats? Thanks in advance.
  16. Thanks guys. I think these posts are pretty good to get me a basic understanding. The links are also great and I'm working my way through them. My overall conclusion: 1. OBP is a little more important than SLG% (about 1.6-1.8X as important). 2. Both are important and to look at a stat line of avg/obp/slg can tell you what kind of patience, power, and hitting ability a guy has. 3. A rough estimate of how good a batter's OPS is: .600 - .700 - Poor .701 - .800 - Average .801 - .900 - Good .901 - 1.000 - Elite 1.001+ - Superstar But sill have to look at the numbers mentioned in #3 b/c not all OPS are created equal.. Thanks again, I think I have the basics on this one. (up next...WHIP)
  17. Finishing 8th in the PCL in batting (AAA) seems like he should stick it out one more year. That's too bad. I'd hate to hit over .300 my final season of triple A and have to throw in the towel.
  18. Sounds like Rottino is a solid ball player.
  19. Turnbow's 9th doesn't seem real pretty.
  20. A little on the Melvin interview Bullpen building - we don't have the money to buy a bigtime closer. just look for good live arms that have done same role in minors. we like our bullpen depth. castro is a great pen coach. Jared Fernandez - pretty good chance of making the team. Getting a lot outs w/ the knuckle ball. May be worried a bit of opposing teams running when he's in the game, but our catchers are showing ability to catch him. Great thing about him, can start, relieve, or whatever and give a ton of innings. The young guys - they need to gain respect of the vets and they've been doing it (Hardy, Fielder, Weeks). Rickie is fine, but Monday he'll be ready. Bill Hall - gonna start 3 games in CF at end of spring training. Looking to get him 450-500 at bats. Great team player. On th WBC - Big supporter and too bad Sheets couldn't pitch in it b/c of health (wished Ben could've done it). Rubbed in the Canadian victory about 3 times (maybe more). Sorry if this is not game related....not real important, but good between inning reading.
  21. For those with XM and no WTMJ.....Melvin interview is coming up on XM175.....xm better not be yankning my chain again.
  22. Thanks Woog. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif XM said they'd have the spring games on if the flagship station carried it, but this game is unavailable.
  23. I like Cap getting a nice clean inning out of the way. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
