I guess we're mostly through what there is of the summer movie season, cut down by the Delta variant. And a string of movies that weren't that compelling. The Green Knight I thought was really terrific. If you're in English lit mode rather than action adventure mode. It's certainly deliberately paced, but gorgeous, well acted, and has a lot on its mind. I was only vaguely aware of the poem, but it makes me want to read it. I thought The Suicide Squad was a lot of fun. Perhaps a little too much reliance on swearing and shocking kills, but likable characters, a weird big bad, and just enough social/political commentary to engage with. Black Widow I thought was good, but clearly a lesser version of Winter Soldier with the main character kind of sidelined in favor of the new characters coming up. This also feels a few years too late. I enjoyed it, but it's definitely mid-tier Marvel. Luca deserved a theatrical release. I really enjoyed In the Heights, but I'd agree with the criticism that it's too long. Summer of Soul and The Sparks Brothers were super musical documentaries. Highly recommended.
