  1. luis urias avoids arbitration, agreeing to a $2.55mm contract.
  2. if added to the active roster, jon singleton is out of minor league options and has been outrighted to the minor leagues before.
  3. tevor gott, being out of options, appears to be a lock. and also remember that clubs don't need all 13 - 14 pitchers right on opening day. the brewers could open up with extra position players, option or dfa them within a few days and then select the contracts of pitchers on minor league deals (or acquire arms outside of the organization).
  4. if you're seeking insight on hitters (and hitters only), it'd be helpful if the thread title was edited to reflect such. hitting reclamation projects have a chance of making the opening day roster if rosters temporarily expand beyond 26 as expected. plus, there are currently two open 40-man spots, and if the brewers wish to grant justin topa major league service time and pay, they can recall him (not to report) and place him on the 60-day injured list to open up a spot.
  5. significant in that urías profiled as the backup shortstop for the club.
  6. that's tuesday, folks.
  7. that new cba rule doesn't go into effect until after the 2022 season. after the 2022 season, contracts for arbitration-eligible players who avoid arbitration hearings will be fully guaranteed.
  8. yes, and he's credited with a full year of major league service if he spends the entire season on either the 40-man roster, the major league covid-19 injured list and/or the major league 60-day injured list.
  9. the new cba rule to guarantee contracts for arbitration-eligible players who avoid a hearing doesn't go into effect until after the 2022 season. thus, those contracts are non-guaranteed, and the brewers can release them before opening day and only pay a pro-rated portion of their salary.
  10. also unknown: --when a player is designated for assignment, will a club still have seven days to trade, release or outright him to the minors?
  11. 25 april is a monday, and the game is at 5:10 pm cdt. the brewers will have played a night game the day prior in philadelphia, and then after the conclusion of the game vs. the giants, have to play a night game in pittsburgh. the giants will have played a day game in washington the day prior, so they will be arriving in milwaukee a bit earlier on sunday. these aren't horrible logistics. and bear in mind that rosters will have expanded to 28 by the time the september doubleheader comes around (with a 29th man likely for 8 september).
  12. this article states that "the requirement for tracing wristbands that were used last year is omitted". presumably, that means that mlb has eliminated the restricted list mandate for asymptomatic unvaccinated players.
  13. with regards to roster management, i'm not seeing any major changes from last year's rules. taxi squads of up to five players are permitted. if there are five players, one must be a catcher. if you're placed on the covid-19 injured list, it's a restricted list, and you're removed from the 40-man roster. modification to the "outbreak" rule (defined as "significant" in this article) . . . it also allows teams to place players on a restricted list if they cannot meet the vaccination requirements to travel into canada. if the number of players is significant (last year it was three or more), then replacement players can be added without having to return them via outright waivers or optional assignment waivers. presumably, this "significant outbreak" rule would affect the new york yankees and new york mets if new york city's private employer vaccine requirement remains in place. also presumably, this means that a 40-man player who had been on optional assignment that is promoted as a replacement during significant use of a covid-19 restricted list would not burn one of his five options turns when returned to the minor leagues. what i believe is a new ruling: if a player tests positive while designated for assignment, the designation shall be negated and he would go on the covid-19 injured list. still unknown: will unvaccinated players be forced to go on the covid-19 injured list if deemed close contact with personnel testing positive, and will the requisite be seven days and a negative test at the conclusion of those seven days? again, we know that jace peterson went on the covid-19 injured list last year because he was unvaccinated. even if he had tested negative each and every day during those seven days, he couldn't come off the restricted list.
  14. less than $20 will get you a mlb gameday audio subscription. you can listen to any mlb game you want to. but if you're a t-mobile customer, check out their t-mobile tuesdays deal next week. you won't have to shell out the $20, and you'll gain mlb.tv in addition to gameday audio.
  15. lorenzo cain says he ran extensively during the offseason in an effort to avoid the sort of leg injuries -- a strain to each quad and a right hamstring strain -- that limited him last year.
