  1. if added to the 40-man roster, these are the number of minor league option years each player would have: luke barker: 3 josh lindblom: 0 (he has been outrighted to the minor leagues before) luis perdomo: 1 (he has been outrighted to the minor leagues before) ethan small: 3 brice turang: 3 under the previous collective bargaining agreement, the brewers would not have been required to issue an opt-out clause to lindblom or perdomo at the end of spring training, as neither player finished the previous season on a major league roster or major league injured list and had at least six years of major league service time. it is unknown if the new cba would've mandated an opt-out clause for either of those players.
  2. the requisite stay for pitchers on optional assignment and for the injured list (non-concussion) has been increased to 15 days. it remains at 10 days for position players.
  3. the brewers invited five players who were already on minor league contracts for 2022 to major league spring training. rhp luke barker rhp josh lindblom rhp luis perdomo lhp ethan small ss brice turang the brewers have 19 non-roster invitees in 2022 spring camp.
  4. for the next five seasons under the new cba, the commissioner will be able to set the trading deadline between 28 july and 3 august.
  5. given the context of the linked article, shouldn't this thread be re-titled? i wanna know why freddy peralta spent the entire offseason in milwaukee. i'm guessing u.s. citizenship?
  6. Of Course the Blue Jays have played in Buffalo the last 2 season [sic]. So they first have to go back to Toronto for it to effect [sic] any team. while it is true that the blue jays played in buffalo the last two seasons (i was at a game in june last summer), the blue jays eventually returned to playing games in toronto last season, and are scheduled to open the season in toronto on 8 april vs. texas.
  7. --if a team has already claimed a player off outright waivers in a season, they cannot put in a claim attempt for him again until all other teams have passed. last year, the seattle mariners claimed jacob nottingham from the brewers twice.
  8. adam mccalvy identified those three guys in this article, so it looks like i got 'em all. feels good to be researching rosters again.
  9. other things we don't know: --does a player still retain his option year if he spends less than 20 days on optional assignment in a single season? --can clubs still petition mlb for a fourth option year if a player spent one of his burned option years with a significant injury? presumably, the fourth option granted to j.c. mejia for the 2022 season remains intact.
  10. we don't know how long the requisite stay on optional assignment will be for pitchers. mlb officially made it 15 days prior to the start of the 2020 season, but then scrapped that rule because of the abbreviated season.
  11. mlb is looking at potentially expanding rosters for april.
  12. alec bettinger: sent on optional assignment seven times in 2021 hoby milner: sent on optional assignment six times in 2021 pablo reyes: sent on optional assignment six times in 2021 there may have been more (including guys with other organizations in 2021 who were sent on optional assignment by their clubs), but i think i got them all. understandably, i was only paying attention to the total number of days optioned and whether that player was burning his option in 2021.
  13. source, please . . . and please provide in this thread instead, please?
  14. yeah . . . i'm unclear on that as well. the money left over for the top 100 players isn't that huge . . . especially if most of the top five mvp and cy young finishers in each league as decreed by the baseball writers' association are pre-arbitration players. remember, that money gets awarded first, and then whatever's left is split amongst 100 players. for example, if every top five finisher in mvp and cy young voting was a pre-arbitration player, that would give almost a third of the $50mm pool just to those 10 players. that's not a lot left to distribute to 100 guys. thus, i think that corbin burnes would have gotten both $2.5mm and a much smaller war share.
  15. a $50mm bonus pool has been created to reward the top 100 pre-arbitration players. it will be based on baseball writers' association of america award voting results, and on a wins-above-replacement formula to be determined by july. estimated annual cost for the brewers? $1.67mm. the article linked above breaks down the bbwaa-determined bonus pool. had this rule been in place last year, corbin burnes would've received a $2.5mm bonus for his cy young award.
  16. contracts for presumably only the ten remaining arbitration-eligible players listed above will be guaranteed. unclear if contracts for jandel gustave, jace peterson, pedro severino and rowdy tellez are guaranteed as they were signed under the previous collective bargaining agreement.
  17. --clubs promoting top prospects to opening day rosters will be eligible to receive draft picks if the player finishes in the top three in the rookie of the year voting or top five in mvp/cy young voting. again, the power of the baseball writers' association of america just grew tremendously.
  18. yes, full service time awarded for up to four rookies.
  19. --contracts for arbitration-eligible players will be guaranteed.
  20. Get ready for the griping from players that lose out, like when Braun won RoY over Tulowitzki by 2 points, to go from eye roll moments to actual anger because the stakes have been raised. Winner gets the service time bonus the loser is left in the cold. mlb.com says it's any player who finishes in top two of jackie robinson rookie of the year. presumably, that's top two in each league, so if correct, four players would received a full year of service time . . . but again, at the hands of the baseball writers' association of america.
  21. how much money will the brewers ask for? rick schlesigner says he doesn't know, and doesn't expect to comment until this summer.
  22. the major league rule 5 draft for rule 4 players and international players who had hopes of becoming rule 6 players has been canceled for this season. actually, i have no idea if the new cba still defines the rule 4 draft and rule 6 players. i hope that the rule numbers haven't changed.
  23. it will be interesting to note what defines an optional assignment. we know that under the previous cba, a player sent on optional assignment was required to physically report to the club he was being optioned to. (remember being puzzled in 2018 when keon broxton was optioned to class a wisconsin in late august? it was actually a courtesy move as broxton had an expected childbirth, and all he had to do was drive to grand chute to make the optional assignment official.) so, let's assume that physically reporting to the minor league club makes the optional assignment official. mlb clubs are notorious for letting optioned players take some time to report back to their minor league club (much to the chagrin of minor league managers, whose players are whisked away on planes and in cars when they're needed by the big league club, but can take days to return--forcing the affiliate to play shorthanded). we saw last year where an optioned player would finish out the rest of the road trip with the brewers before heading to where ever his minor league club was, or given a day to get his affairs in order in milwaukee, only to be conveniently recalled because another player was put on the injured list or the special covid-19 injured list. curious if mlb clubs will be able to get away with this slowpoke return to the minor leagues if an optional assignment only counts if the player physically reports to the minor league club, and be able to yo-yo him back without eliminating one of his five options. my guess is no--that once you're optioned, it counts, even if you happen to be recalled a day later to replace an injured player.
  24. also unknown, when's the trading deadline this year? 31 july is a sunday, where the majority of the games are afternoon games. last year, mlb moved the trading deadline to 3:00 pm central on 30 july.
