a reminder that in the 2018 nlds, which had a 25-man roster, the brewers carried only 11 pitchers, and three of them were never used. and they didn't clinch the division until game 163. i'm all for the 15 / 11 split.
on friday, miguel sánchez was optioned to class aaa nashville. unsure if he has to meet the requisite 10 days in order to be on any postseason roster. i'm sensing no.
yesterday, tim lopes cleared outright waivers and remains in the organization. he will be eligible for minor league free agency after the conclusion of the world series.
yesterday, keston hiura was optioned to class aaa nashville. unsure if he has to meet the requisite 10 days in order to be on any postseason roster. i'm sensing no.
i could see the brewers optioning a pitcher when rowdy tellez is activated tonight. they can get by with 13 pitchers for the weekend . . . especially if they option someone who pitched yesterday.
Correct me if I'm wrong because I didn't Google it, but I figured it was because you have to have at least one minor league level playing right up until the MLB playoffs so there are players ready to supplement the major league squads in case of late season injuries. Wouldn't want to have the 40 man roster players who aren't on the big club's 26 man roster sitting around on their couches when someone breaks their hand punching a wall. Figured, even though you found the answer you were looking for it would be worthwhile to have it shared in case others are wondering the same thing. there's a thread on this very subject.
