  1. Of all the rumored pitching prospects, you're telling me none of them are in the deal?
  2. The fourth prospect was supposed to me a lesser prospect, which now has me worried it won't be either of the pitchers.
  3. Passan speculates that one of Sheffield or McKenzie could be in the deal. I would love Meija and McKenzie as the core to this deal.
  4. It would be great if you could name these "can't miss" players that you think are attainable that will still be under team control (sans extension) when the team is competitive again.
  5. Agreed once I saw that report of them being "heavily in" on Lucroy testerday I thought they are right there with the Indians. I like Boston since they appear more likely to put a significant piece out there. You would think Boston would be much more inclined to part with significant prospects due to the fact they can be more easily replaced through free agency (MLB & International) where they can compete with anyone dollar for dollar. Chicago's deal for Chapman is an example of this as well. Cleveland should conversely place extra emphasis on the talent they have in the minor leagues. As much as I want to get my hopes up when looking at their system and what other teams have made deals for, I just don't know if they will stray from rational thinking and offer up a competitive offer.
  6. http://s2.quickmeme.com/img/39/3909777a99de99dee36877030236585bb02f3ee850b9b79b6181a05a56b3f031.jpg
  7. So you think it's Lucroy & Jeffress for Rosario, Smith, TDA & Cecchini?
  8. Oof. That'll take a whole lot more than a teaspoon of sugar.
  9. He said he wants to go a contender, which the Indians are, but I'm not sure why he would. I suppose it's possible that he might negotiate with it and try to have his 2017 option voided, which would probably be a deal breaker. This is my greatest fear now. Deal is done with Cleveland but Lucroy wants the option voided to become a FA after this year, which would certainly pull Cleveland out as a match for us. I really hope he wouldn't do that, but it can't be dismissed out of hand.
  10. Would a Smith swap with the Mets (Will for Dom) be fair value in this reliever market?
  11. You'd think Twitter would have the scoop over a stadium scoreboard, but then again the Miami Marlins were the first to report Muhammed Ali's death. Stranger things have happened.
  12. Bauer is not very good, and anyways would not help us very much given his remaining years of team control. Pretty sure, he's 100% better than any current Brewer pitcher...and there's this thing called a contract extension. Pretty sure that's legal. You guys worry way too much about "team control" you can control a player as long as you want...if you resign him. I don't think you understand the constraints of a small market club, or have a realistic expectation of how this rebuild will play out, which makes your snark even less welcome to an otherwise positive thread.
  13. Don't think the Brewers ask for a catcher back to replace Lucroy's spot on the roster, so I would scratch Perez from that proposal. They have Pina at AAA if Lucroy is traded. Replace Perez with Mejia, Sheffield with McKenzie, and Mathias with Hillman, and that's pretty close for Lucroy and Thornburg. Maybe add a few lottery tickets like Felix Tati and Jorma Rodriguez. This. Although I'd rather part with Smith than Thornburg.
  14. I don't understand what this means? Are they saying that Lucroy is the "significant piece" and teams better pony up, or are they saying that another team has made them a "significant offer" and you better put your best offer on the table right now or else you'll get left out? A team has offered the Brewers a significant return piece and I'm assuming its a "better pony up" notification Yeah, it's close to bar close and Stearns just yelled "Last Call!" #BeerPuns
  15. I'm guessing just one or two, but that will be because he's able to land guys like McKenzie who aren't on list. I will take a stab that of the prospects acquired at the deadline, 4 or 5 will be Top 100 guys at some point. Maybe more if they really do their due diligence and get a bit lucky with the young guys.
  16. This would appear to eliminate one destination for Will Smith. Maybe now they start taking a closer look at Lucroy?
  17. And they had already invested $60M to acquire.
  18. So the leaks are definitely coming from the Mets - there's really no question. Do they hope that the media will run with this and write articles on how Stearns is overplaying his hand and cave to a lesser deal? Is that what Alderson is hoping to accomplish? Don't get me wrong - take the best deal you can get. But if all things are equal you should leave Alderson high and dry. He's approaching Tony LaRussa territory in my disdain for him.
  19. Very possible. Melvin and now especially Stearns are typically tight lipped before a deal goes down. We've already seen Alderson make a thinly-veiled reference to the D'Arnaud for Lucroy straight up offer as being "dead on arrival." These comments obviously aren't coming from Milwaukee because they all paint the picture of the Brewers asking for the moon in almost every instance.
  20. I'm in agreement that they should insist on McKenzie & Mejia as a starting point with one or two other pieces they like.
  21. I will only get nervous if the Rangers/Indians make a deal for a lesser catcher. There will undoubtedly be a ton of venom spewed towards Stearns if that happens and Lucroy remains a Brewer on August 2nd.
  22. I will be very surprised if the return on Lucroy has a centerpiece of major league ready talent. They aren't going to deplete their MLB roster, that makes zero sense for them when they are trying to win a WS this year. Which is exactly why it makes sense to target guys like McKenzie. Try to get one of the more sure things like Frazier/Zimmer, insist on McKenzie and try to get Hillman too. We don't know what offers are on the table but based on the rumors out there, Cleveland doesn't like the asking price which means Stearns is probably asking for deals like the ones we've constructed on this board or maybe even more.
