  1. Beltre has a 737 OPS and is making 13.4 mil this year. He does play some decent D though.
  2. Tiger is going for Nicklaus' 18 majors, he will at least play until then.
  3. That was a love-tap that left the field.
  4. http://images.yuku.com/image/jpeg/d7d3528194018d52452462e615589e2cae866bf.jpg Class act, great player and all the while had fun playing the game. If I have a son I will tell him I saw Ken Griffey Jr. play. He is the kind of player that candy bars are named after.
  5. I figured the best way to go here was a with an outfielder who could move Swisher over to right when Dye is done. There are 4 that I considered. Cameron Maybin- good speed, good bat, walked a lot but has been striking out a lot (I attribute this to being a 20 year old in AA). It came down to Maybin and Rasmus and both seem to be on their way to good careers. Maybin's total package of speed, defense and offense, even though he has not showed much power, his ceiling seems to be higher than Rasmus. Colby Rasmus- can play good D, has the potential to steal bases, pretty good bat. It came down between him and Maybin, it was just Maybin's "total package" that put him over the top. I think pretty highly of Rasmus, but Maybin was just too talented. There is a very good chance that Rasmus ends up being more productive in the Majors. It's just that Maybin may become a superstar. Andrew McCutchen- good speed, good glove, his hitting numbers have been lower than expected, but he was playing in AA as a 20 year old. McCutchen is a good player, but he is very similar to Maybin, and I think Maybin may have the higher ceiling. Chase Headley- a good player but with the other guys on the board he just did not stack up. Concerns over strike outs and how high his ceiling is. So the White Sox select, Cameron Maybin.
  6. I think a major part of being a manger is (pardon the pun) managing personalities within the clubhouse. John Gibbons has this "my way or the highway" attitude that seems to create so much conflict. It has hurt his team this year and in previous years. Butting heads with players will not produce good results. I look at Ozzie Guillen and see someone who will attack anyone or anything except the guys on his team. When the guys on his team were not hitting, he went after the GM, not his players, and now they have run off seven in a row. He is so good at the us against the world strategy. Gibbons should take some notes.
  7. I hope Odorizzi plays for us and does not go to Louisville.
  8. I guess my reasoning is that he is 6-5 210, 18 years old, with a good low 90's fastball and a good curve. There are not many high school arms in the draft so I figured someone would jump on him. Maybe 10-20 was a little high but 20-30 would sound more right.
  9. Melville is still around. I find it hard to believe he will still be there for us, but I guess I thought he would go in the 10-20 round.
  10. I think if he is there, we take him. He is right up Jack Z's alley, big bodied high school pitcher with some stuff.
  11. What don't they like about him? I think he has some good potential, 6-6 guy, fastball in the upper 90's. More than likely he will be a relief guy but I do not think he is anyone to be upset about. I think Cubs fans just like to complain.
  12. I feel this pick is comparable to last year. Take the big bat and find a place to play the guy. Although Lawrie is not as polished as Laporta was coming out. If he does end up being a catcher his value will increase greatly.
  13. From SaberScouting (feel free to move this post, I do not know if this shoud be here) Brett Lawrie, C/UT, Brookswood HS (Canada) Bio: 5?11, 200, Bats R, Throws R, 18 years old The Skinny: Lawrie has a lot of helium headed into the days before the draft, but if you asked most scouts who saw him last summer, they may tell you that they saw this coming. The Canadian slugger has played catcher effectively and has showed big upside on offense and defense, flashing plus raw power and a plus arm behind the dish. He also has above-average speed, solid contact skills, plate discipline, and developing defensive skills behind the plate. Lawrie also is surprisingly refined at the pate for a Canadian prospect that hasn't had as many at-bats as most elite American prep prospects. His advanced bat was made known to teams when he had a 21-for-30 hitting streak on one swing through spring training camps, and hit 3 homers in a double-header on another trip thorough camps, facing some extended spring and low-minors arms, but also some high-level arms, including extra base hits off of Luke Hochevar and Kyle Davies. Lawrie continues to allay fears of a minor league flameout with all-out makeup and some scouts think he may work too hard. The advanced bat and periodic loss of interest defensively may even push him off of catcher to speed up the path to the big leagues, but Lawrie could play almost anywhere on the field except shortstop. Toronto and Minnesota are known to have interest in the mid-first round. Pros: Bat, Power, Arm Cons: Raw Tools, Lack of competition Comparison: Upside of Eric Byrnes or Russell Martin http://www.saberscouting.com/drafttop100/#more-200
  14. I think Pedro Alvarez is going to be a beast.? I love his swing.
  15. I have had my eye on Escobar with the 15th pick. I think he is going to be a stud.
  16. Given the Brewers' reliance on the draft, June 5 will be the biggest day for the franchise since Bernie Brewer discovered his slide. I know this is a joke, but it is a bad one. I would say it has the potential to be a big day, but Mark A. taking over the team was a pretty big day.

  18. I remember the article from last year as well. I also remember them talking about building a high speed rail that would go from Chicago to a couple of the satellite sites. I am sure that most of the rail stuff was speculation, but how cool would a high speed train from Chicago to Milwaukee or Chicago to Madison be.
  19. While I agree with this in principle, the cubs did just run off 9 in a row. I was beginning to think they were never going to lose again.
  20. I will take the White Sox.
  21. First Baseball player is A-Rod at 7th. 50 Highest Earning Athletes in the US Assuming A-Rod plays out his new mammoth 10-year, $275 million deal, he'll have earned $445 million in base salary alone over the course of what would be a 24-year career.
  22. You would hope so, but our fans have proven us wrong before.
  23. We offered Lee a 4 year, $48 million deal that we knew he wouldn't take. Houston gave him a 6 year, $100 million deal. This isn't a Coco Cordero difference, the difference is over $50 million. I do not understand the point you are trying to make. I was saying that I understand why someone would boo Lee, he turned down, what is to the layman, a ton of money not to play here. I do not agree with the opinion to boo him, I just understand the thought process of someone who does.
  24. Carlos was traded because he would not accept a fairly generous offer (imo). So I could imagine why there would be some animosity. Davis on the other hand was a class act while he was here and just beat cancer. I would hope anybody would clap for someone surviving cancer, regardless of their rooting interest.
  25. I actually have the extremely rare misprint of this card. In it Brian is naked below the waist.
