  1. As a Chicagoan, I've got to back JBriggs. He's right. I would have to assume that JB is right as well. I know here on BF.net we have been guilty of hand-wavingly dismissing the Cubs with arguments like "They are the Cubs, they'll screw it up." I can imagine the majority of Cub fans saying things like "They'll just collapse in the second half."
  2. As a side note -- Since January 1st, my wife has established a fascist regime of "healthier eating" in our household. I have mocked her, bribed her, carried on, and busted out most my self-preservation arsenal, and still I am looking at low-fat, low-sodium -- and my personal arch enemy "reasonable portions". So clearly I needed to pursue divorce on the grounds, that my wife has clearly become mentally unstable, and/or possessed by demons. I talked to some of my friends in the attorney industry -- and they indicated that my case was not the slam-dunk case I had hoped it would be -- and at some point during all the legal hoopla, I would probably would get hungry, so I should just deal with it. So -- this weekend my wife made "turkey steaks" -- I have no idea what turkey steaks are, perhaps there is a super species of 6 foot turkeys, or maybe they grind turkeys into turkey paste and reform it into "steaks" -- in either case it was pretty tasty. The Soylent Greenesque twist to this story, was when the other day I was eating Turkey burger BBQ, and I told my wife -- "This isn't that bad, I could get used to this", to which my wife replied... (cue moment of revelation music) "You've been eating Turkey burger since October" I literally stopped chewing.
  3. Grope my wife. Yeah... Hard to argue this logic.
  4. Sturgeon is my favorite.
  5. Edward Gibbon Good one! Edward Gibbon (April 27, 1737[1] - January 16, 1794) was an English historian and Member of Parliament. His most important work, The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, was published in six volumes between 1776 and 1788. The History is known principally for the quality and irony of its prose, its use of primary sources, and its open denigration of organized religion, though the extent of this is disputed by some critics.
  6. the Earl of Sandwich. Which one? There were like a dozen. Maya Angelou The force is so not with you.
  7. Peter Singer is a jerk. He is a big jerk David Hume. You are so close I am going to eat some nachos in your honor.
  8. James Mill. A very close and great guess.
  9. Niccolò Jommelli -- style points for the fancy o, but not a composer jeremy bentham -- great guess -- I bet Bentham met this guy at some point.
  10. http://images.yuku.com/image/jpeg/1fe25339b17abfc0ea117f234e91a9085b37196.jpg An easy one.
  11. I'd almost be OK with Estrada at 1.5 for one year...
  12. Right -- It's not as if they traded for him.
  13. Just curious, would humans be red meat?
  14. Probably taste like tofu--no thanks. Plus I would expect with their low fat content they wouldn't fry up very well either -- and they always sort of smell kind of funky.
  15. Heh. Singer is used a little bit loose, Divine. Good one.
  16. I totally hulk up in front of Miller Park before every home game. Someone should make one of those kitten sniper pictures with the tagline "Shootin your spyz, in my cross-hairz" or something more cute/funny. Maybe an anti-dog/Bob Barker motif? "Keepin Bob Barker from my junks"
  17. My experience has been -- is that they base the discount off of the highest posted price or something like that -- I may be a bit cloudy on this, but I think that they even discounted off of 1st class fares, and it ended up being cheaper to go through a travel agent or other reseller of tickets. I remember thinking that the only time it would make sense to use a bereavement fare was if the flight was booked, and you had to buy standby tickets, and your situation was a dire emergency where you had to get on a plane immediately. Of course, I could be totally wrong, but I remain pretty confident that you will find a better deal at Orbitz or something like that.
  18. In terms of the reaction of fans, it's a huge series. If the Brewers open up with a sweep, it could really get the support behind this team early. To pile on, I would agree with this sentiment. A sweep either way will fire up the bloggers and the interwebs. I think even people here at BFnet will feel obliged to leave a comment or two. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif It's only 3 games out of 162, but...
  19. Good. I'm not so worried about the Cubs getting Roberts if they have to trade pitching depth but if they picked up Bedard that is scary. Yep, I know the Reds were in the deal talks as well, glad to see he didn't land in the NL Central, as that would have been bad news.
  20. I am going to guess Todd Slater and give up. I don't think it is right, but I went through my CD collection, and noticed some designs done by him that are similar to your Dan the Automator avatar. If it is not Todd Slater, I bet Todd Slater knows who GCSU #64 is.
