  2. That article seems like pure bologna. It may very well be -- but I had heard the same story from other news sources.
  3. I stopped communicating with them and I think my contacts with the well bred users was better so to speak. Huh -- So on the bad side, I am inbred, but on the good side I have another thing I can blame my folks on. I apologize to BFnet, to dragging down the overall intelligence quotia down to "inbred". Official Intelligence quotia equivilancies. 1. Guy who invented Secret Stadium Sauce 2. Ryan Adams 3. Doug Melvin/Gord Ash/Jack Z. . . . 93. The Elderly 94. Inbreds 95. Howie Mandel 96. Paris Hilton 97. Turnips 98. Sal Bando 99. The Recently Deceased 100. Cub Fans. With regard to pork -- my wife made a huge ham last night -- man it mad my stomach hurt -- this is like the second time in a row. I am done with ham.
  4. It was actually Slade. Right -- The ironic thing though, was after the Quit Riot hit, the US was more receptive to Slade and made Power Supply their best US album. Deep down, I knew Joey was a fan. It would be really really deep down --- way past my inner Zambrano, but you may be right... I can talk 80s hair metal all day long. All my friends were really into it.
  5. Maybe the mods could put "(spoilers)" in the thread title so we could start discussing the show? Sam -- This show just drips of Deadwood IMO -- a lot of great character writing and character acting. If you liked Deadwood, you need to give this show a chance. It is really hard to explain what it is all about -- but it is a real "outside the box" show. I want someone on the show to say they were "Yosted" -- that would crack me up.
  6. He was the team's best reliever last year, he didn't do anything wrong, and he got sent down. I disagree -- A pitcher doesn't have to do anything "wrong" to not make the team out of camp, you can be simply less effective than the other pitchers. I think his "public pout" became a distraction for what was the real issue -- his lack of velocity in ST. After his pout/AWOL -- the problems that were apparent to DM and Ned in ST were never fixed/resolved. I am really happy with this move -- once Yo got promoted all our farm teams had a starter move up as well, so there is probably a lot of wisdom in hooking into a LH starter. I think Spurling is very acceptable in the 12th man role, and I do not see the point in releasing Dessens if we have to pay the dude. Heck, if Matt Wise gets tonged or Tbow starts getting greased, a guy like Dessens is not a bad emergency BP guy. I would rather our AAA guys keep getting regular pitching than having them rot on our BP bench, Elmer on the other hand can rot away. Good move.
  7. In Bush's only loss in June, he once again gives up 4 ER in 6 IP but the offense never gets going, so it's another bad start. 4 ER in 6 IP is what it is regardless of the run support, it is probably what you are going to see on an average start from your 4-5 guys. Of course Russ is right in what he says. The only difference I see is in the bottom line, results. Vargas is 6-1 (Brewers 12-2) 4.2 ERA Bush is 6-6 (Brewers 7-10) 5.1 ERA. If we are going to trade Vargas, I would say his results are quite an asset to his trade value. I would rather keep him in the rotation and not damage his trade value, keep Villy in the pen, or move Bush to the pen (and move Bush back later if needed).
  8. ...and if LaPorta's not ready by the end of '08 It's very unlikely LaPorta will be an option at the end of 2008. I am not a big fan of keeping Jenkins. I think he would be overpaid at $9 million -- If he produces like he did in April -- I'd change my mind -- If he produces like he has in May/June -- no thanks. Personally Id hope they trade him as his stock is probably at its ceiling.
  9. I totally volunteer for that job. I already walk around singing Twisted Sister all day. Cmon feel the noise was Quiet Riot
  10. I think the conventional wisdom for young pitchers is that you do not want to increase their workload by more than 25 IP in a year. 2004 -- 114 2005 -- 132 2006 -- 181 Of course last year our rotation was tore up by injuries, and pitchers like Turnbow were rendered useless -- so my guess bumping CV up to 181 last year was more out of necessity than design. The other interesting aspect is that CV pitched most of 06 as a starter. I think that if we keep using CV as we are (long-relief, spot starting) we will be just fine.
  11. In this case, the 'good opponent' factor is getting in the way of judging how much difference actually exists when the team is on the road. Maybe with regard to differential this is true -- but probably not so much to our NL ranking (12th) as I am sure we are not the only team to play the Pads, Mets, etc. on the road.
  12. You didn't hear it from me and that was a completely different situation anyway Plus Jenkins had 0 trade value in 2006, I would assume someone would be interested in him now. I was amazed that Jenkins started 2007 with the Brewers -- I assume that happened because his trade value was low. Like Russ said, Jenkins was a sunk cost for 2007 so unless you get something of value, it doesnt make sense to dump him.
  13. Graffy has played in a bunch of playoff series as well. Estrada played in a couple with the Braves as well.
  14. is he on the juice? Frank was a pretty good Tight End at Auburn I think -- He's been huge since day 1.
  15. So our relative record on the road is in effect pretty good, considering the circumstances. If you are saying "so far, so good" I won't argue with that -- however, just because we played some close games on the road against some good teams, doesn't ensure we will do well when we roll up into the bad teams parks. The longer trend seems to indicate struggling on the road. Hopefully we start getting more road wins.
  16. Look at the teams we've played on the road. We've actually done pretty well on the road. I am not sure about that. We are currently 12th in the NL with road wins. Of course a lot of those teams play the same teams the Brewers have. 2005 -- 11th in road wins 2006 -- 15th in road wins I am not one to get excited about silver-lining-losses. Just because we lost to the Pads or Mets does not mean we would have beaten WAS or TB. We will have to play good teams on the road in the playoffs, so we will need to clear that hurdle. Without a doubt it is something that has been a problem in the past, and needs to be improved on in the future.
  17. I don't think we'll see Jenkins or Mench on the team next year. I hope you are right.
  18. That I would not be okay with (Sheets and Cappy leaving). Then I say no Griffey. I keep hearing he may be headed for Seattle. That's really not a fair argument. Sheets may have already priced himself out of our price range regardless of what happens with Griffey or some other LFer. Furthermore, Griffey has a club option in 2009, it can be bought out for 4 mil. As far as Seattle goes -- I hear that Jr. wants to retire there -- but not necessarily go there tomorrow -- I think Jr. assumes he can play for 2-5 more years, so something could happen where the Reds trade him to someone else, and then somehow 2-3 years down the road Jr. ends up in Sea.
  19. Griffey will want his 2009 option picked up--thats $17 million. We don't have to pick that up, it is a club option. I remain convinced that we can upgrade LF, we don't seem to have anyone in the wings in AAA, and I think if we can afford to pick up the option on Jenks in 2008, we can afford Griffey. If Jenks is an option in 2008 he is going to have to have a platoon partner like Mench. There certainly may be better options than Griffey -- I won't deny that, but LF and our BP (if Cordero is leaving) are 2 places we could benefit from a trade on.
  20. It makes more sense to just look at the entire year's worth of stats, IMO. Perhaps -- No matter how you slice it Griffey is an upgrade over Jenkins+Mench -- looking at the whole year or the last couple of months.
  21. How would Vargas and Jenkins get someone better than Jenkins? Get someone that can play fulltime. Sure the Reds would love to dump Griffey, but the Brewers can't afford that. According to ESPN -- Jenkins (7.3) + Vargas (2.5) > Griffey Jr. (8.4) -- salarywise today. According to Rotoworld -- Griffey (12.5) so if Rotoworld is right Griffey would cost a couple of million more. How ever in 2008 Jenks+Mench > Griffey. ($$wise) so we could afford Griffey in 2008 and 2009. Jenkins OBP has dropped off from April, as well as his SLG -- He did have 6 HRs in May so that helped out a lot -- but currently in June he is a .741 corner OF that is platooned with a .678 OF -- both supposedly getting favorable ABs. That is not real exciting to me, and while I realize Jenks+Mench could turn it around, discussion about upgrading this position doesn't seem out of line.
  22. One would hope that sprint would be the automatic default option Exactly -- If you want to say Billy needs to haul butt out of the batters box, I agree 100%. Hopefully he learns from this. I would never use a situation like this to reflect on his character. I am sure he got caught up in the excitement. I am sure Bill realizes he was lucky to either not get thrown out at 2nd or held up at first.
  23. Jake Peavy, Padres Brad Penny, Dodgers John Smoltz, Braves Cole Hamels, Phillies Randy Wolf, Dodgers Chris Young, Padres Matt Morris, Giants Francisco Cordero, Brewers Jose Valverde, Diamondbacks Brian Fuentes, Rockies Trevor Hoffman, Padres Takashi Saito, Dodgers These are the projected pitchers on the CBS list Here are my thoughts. (assuming selections are made on traditional stats like Wins, Ks, Saves, etc.) Starters --- Penny -- Probably the starter -- LOCK Peavy-Young (SD) -- LOCKS Smoltz -- Only Brave -- great Season LOCK Hamels -- Near lead league in Ks -- LOCK Morris, Wolf -- I am not sure that these 2 are locks at all. Neither one is the lone representative of their team -- Sheets, Harang, Webb are probably 3 pitchers I would pick ahead of these guys. Relievers. -- I think that this list is right on -- There is a big dropoff after Fuentes -- Valverde is the only Diamonback -- so he is probably the most certain of the group. I think a great case can be made for Sheets.
  24. I just don't see why the Brewers need to trade for bullpen help. Other than adding a RH corner outfield bat, I can't see how Melvin can really easily strengthen this team. I keep hoping something like Vargas+Jenks will get us a corner OF that can bat well against LHP and RHP and we can get rid of Mench. I would rather see something like this than dealing for a BP pitcher. One thing though -- If it is a foregone conclusion that Cordero walks at the end of the year, getting Otsuka does make a lot of sense.
  25. If you claim ESPN is just doing this segment for ratings, fine, but those ratings fuel the sponsers who pay ESPN, who in turn gives it back to less fortunate people. Well -- They are going to do the DUI and Elijah Dukes stories -- I think it fair journalism to focus on the good things that some of these players do as well. Negative stories probably sell just as well as sappy tear jerkers. If you have one, you probably should have the other.
