  1. Kremblas would be the man -- I agree. However, I don't think it is likely that Yost gets fired mid-season, unless we lost 15 in a row or something like that. I do think though, if the Brewers are sub .500 Yost will get canned at the end of the year.
  2. Have five different players play a 5000-10,000 hands or more, you will seperate the better players from the lesser ones Right -- However what you and AL are discussing is better players will beat lesser players. That probably is more to the better understanding of the associated probabilities. I am sure that this is true. However, if you have 5 or 6 players of equal probability understanding/experience, I am pretty sure that the winners will be determined by who gets the better cards dealt to them, which is purely luck.
  3. Does anyone else remember Edgar "kiki" Diaz Eddie Diaz Rocks may recall him perhaps. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  4. I'm pretty sure the adult escort industry would take the cake here if allowed to.
  5. I would even consider Chess a sport. I know that a lot of people want to make Poker out to be this grueling mental marathon, but it really is nothing more than understanding probabilities. I don't doubt you need a tough stomach and it can be an emotional roller coaster, and I don't doubt that there is skill involved, but I don't count understanding probabilites as a skill as it relates to a game or strategy. Chess on the other hand is almost entirely skill, with very little luck involved. We probably should not confuse the 2. That said clearly neither is a sport, and all that needs to happen is for both of them to become Olympic events to solidify it.
  6. I have read a lot of good books -- The first that popped into my head would be "The Good Earth" by Pearl Buck -- That book has never escaped me. I think Dracula by Bram Stoker is very clever as well. I like HP Lovecraft the best probably.
  7. samwise got it correct. Contact BHF.
  8. Yeah, all I did was look up the marlins first round guy and figured it was Haas Yeah I had the exact same thought -- I knew it wasnt Kaat though because the first word had five letters. To keep it going - I will forward my prize to the person that answers this question. Who is the only Rule V draftee to go to an AS game the year after getting drafted?
  9. don't the Brewers have kangaroo court too? I'm sure that they do -- it's something that they get called out on for sure.
  10. but i sure wish he woulda signed on the sweet spot. Historically and a baseball tradition is that the sweet spot is reserved for managers. Especially at the park, players can be leery of signing on the sweet spot, as if that ball gets to the manager they can "catch hell". Now, I am not saying that this why every player refuses to sign on the sweet spot, but if you get a relief pitcher (or someone that doesn't have a big demand) at the park, and they automatically sign not on the sweet spot, they are assuming you are going to get more sigs. on the ball. If you look at team signed balls on Ebay -- you will see what I mean 2007 Mets 1992 Reds 1957 Phills A good tip is to tell the players that you are not going to have anyone else sign the ball.
  11. Interesting lineup facts for the 2007 Brewers. Only 3 players have batted 5th for the Brewers (Estrada, Mench, Jenks) 8 players have batted 7th. (Hart 15 is the most) Estrada has only batted 5th, and besides Weeks is the ONLY Brewer to bat in one position. Estrada is 2nd on the team in "Starts in a spot" with 45 starts in the 5 spot. Hardy is first with 49 starts in the 2 spot. Looking back to 2004 (Braves) Estrada batted primarily 5th, and had his best season. In 2005 (Braves) he was moved to the 6th and 7th spot where he stayed in 2006 (Dbacks). My ideal lineup (assuming healthy Weeks). Hart Hardy Fielder Braun Hall Jenks Estrada Weeks.
  12. Well, here goes my theory on how the series will end: I agree in a very large part -- I agree with PF in that AJ will play a huge role, that is to say, I think Tony will be forced to do something outside his historical tendencies to benefit his son.
  13. This was a great situation where I'd love to see Yost have his best reliever pitcher. Small lead and in a major jam. Some day. Yeah - I am not going to say Bush was left in to long, however I think a manager needs to have a quick(er) hook with the score 2-1 and your offense looking pretty dull. I certainly would have been thrilled to see CoCo come in after the walk and single. What grinds me I guess, is that in the post-game Yost made a comment to the effect "Soriano is a great low-off-speed hitter", and then he shrugged if it is Matt Wise's fault for being an off-speed pitcher. If you know a batter is a great low-off-speed pitcher, that doesn't scream to me to be a favorable match-up for Matt Wise. Turnbow may have been a better solution. -- Now if Ned opted for Wise over Tbow because he thought Wise stood a better chance of getting Soriano out, I am OK with that. If Ned went to Wise only because it was inning 7, I think that was a pretty foolish move.
  14. I would be curious to know what the budget for that movie was. 19.95 for the mop. Toxic Avenger is a great one. They Live is a perfect movie for this thread as well. Rock n Roll High School with the Ramones is another one of my favorites. I just thought of another one to add to the list -- the Peter Jackson classic "Dead Alive" complete with lawn-mowers and zombies.
  15. I have a very odd feeling that AJ plays a huge role in the final episode. I really hope so -- Part of what hooked me with this show intially was Tony's relationship with his mother and his past. I think with what Meadow said about AJ is really true, at the end of the day it is all about their son. Great episode -- I have been thinking about it non-stop since last night.
  16. Yeah -- I believe so. I will make note of it next time, if it happens again. -- I only noticed it one time, so I do not want to throw out the baby with the bathwater.
  17. I had the same experience as well -- I heard the ad, and then I figured someone else complained about it and it was removed.
  18. BTW, speaking of Paulie, I found his converation with Bobby and Sil to be very interesting in which he asked if Tony was aware of the situation that he was put in charge of. I thought it was interesting that Phil's group didn't think to target Paulie as he wasn't a part of their "management". I thought Tony's meeting with the Dr. was as scary as anything else. I didn't really understand what the opening scene had to do with the show.
  19. To continue my devil's advocate role in this thread, by animal consumption do you mean any sort of way an animal is used by consumers? I suppose I do -- however, the fur industry for example, has changed a lot over the years, in making fur coats. Animal testing has rigid standards, and people that look over them. The dog-fighting industry does not have any sort of gov't regulations or some sort of self-regulation that ensures humane treatment.
  20. I just find the hypocrisy on this topic sort of interesting. Read the book Fast Food Nation and see how wonderfully these animals have it before they are killed. I am not sure that I see the hypocrisy -- I don't think anyone condones the fast food industry being less than humane. Once you get past the idea that some animals are going to be raised to be consumed, I think you can make a distinction between raising animals for consumption and allowing dogs to maim each other in an ongoing manner.
  21. Maybe not what he was looking for, but National Treasure runs 42% at Rotten Tomatoes. Not an outright bomb, but certainly not well regarded either. Fair enough -- It's hard to define I suppose. I certainly do not want to be in the camp that is defending National Treasure.
  22. I take it many of you who have commented on this topic in regard to animal slaughter don't eat meat? There has to be a distinction between raising animals for consumption and raising them to brutalize each other for entertainment only.
  23. Win or not, I'm disappointed that Sheets only struck out 2 and gave up 11 hits in 6 IP. I understand but... 1.) I am glad Sheets got a W, that has to help him in some fashion. After a brutal 1st inning, he did what he needed to do to keep the Brewers in the game -- and that is what a good pitcher should do. I am not a big W/L guy, but it was good to see Ben get the W, especially after a lot of tough L's or ND's. I didn't think his stuff was magical or particularly nasty though. 2.) Did you notice how many times he threw over to 2nd (Andruw Jones I think)? -- and then over to first to keep Smokin' John Smoltz honest? -- I could be reading entirely too much into this, but I got the impression that Sheets was expressing some contempt for his catcher. I think it was Harris that stole 2nd w/o a throw? I am not saying Estrada sucks or that he should have attempted to throw out a base-stealer -- I am saying that I think Sheets may think Estrada sucks -- he just appeared rattled to me. Let's not forget that Sheets took Smoltz out of the game by brilliantly shattering Smoltz's bat in his hand.
  24. We Saw Spiderman 3 -- It was OK -- kids seemed to like it, I could do with a lot less Mary Jane -- (huh, ironic I should say that). The villans were OK, but it wasn't as good as the last one IMO.
