  4. Wagner leads Wisconsin to second straight win Rattlers starter goes 8-1/3 innings in 5-3 victory over Kane County By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/8/9/6/52464896/cuts/July_2_2013_Wagner_Congratulations_bbtn0d1w_wfar41om.jpg Tyler Wagner is greeted by his teammates as he reaches the dugout after coming out of Tuesday's game. Wagner got the win in Wisconsin's 5-3 decision over the Kane County Cougars. GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers scored just enough runs to backup Tyler Wagner's pitching in a 5-3 win over the Kane County Cougars Tuesday afternoon at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Wagner earned his seventh win of the season with the longest start of his professional career as the Rattlers won for the third time in their last four games. The Cougars (32-46 overall, 2-10 second half) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Jeimer Candelario hit a two-run home run with two outs to give Kane County the lead. Wagner had allowed three hits in the inning, but only gave up the two runs. Wisconsin (33-44 4-8) immediately tied the game in the bottom of the first thank to the generosity of the Kane County defense. Michael Reed reached on an error with one out. Tyrone Taylor dropped a bunt single up the third base line and both runners advanced one base on a throwing error. Victor Roache knocked in Reed with a grounder to short. Mike Garza tied the game with a triple to right-center to send Taylor home. Garza figured into the play that gave the Timber Rattlers the lead in the bottom of the fourth. He singled to lead off the fourth inning. Orlando Arcia tripled to right with one out to get Garza home for a 3-2 lead. Arcia would try score on a grounder to short with the infield pulled in on the grass later in the inning. The throw home beat Arcia by a lot and he slid awkwardly into the shin guard of catcher Carlos Escobar. Arcia was helped off the field as he favored his right ankle. He had the ankle X-rayed after he was take out of the game. Arcia will be re-evaluated on Wednesday. Wagner took the lead and ran with it. At one point in the game, the Rattlers right-hander retired 16 straight Kane County batters. The streak ended with a one out walk in the seventh, but Wagner pitched around that walk and another walk in the eighth inning. The Rattlers added some insurance in the bottom of the seventh inning. Tyler Roberts and Alfredo Rodriguez drew walks against Kane County starter Tayler Scott in the top of the seventh. Reed greeted Kane County reliever Sheldon McDonald with two-run double for a 5-2 Wisconsin lead. Wagner, Milwaukee's fourth round pick in the 2012 draft, went back out for the ninth inning, but walked Dan Vogelbach on four pitches and got Candelario ground into a force play at season. Candelario stole second and scored on a single to right by Marco Hernandez. That hit - the first by a Cougar since the second inning - knocked Wagner out of the game as he had reached 103 pitches on the final offering to Hernandez. He went 8-1/3 innings, walked three, struck out three, and allowed five hits in the longest start of his professional career. Jono Armold entered the game and promptly induced Wilson Contreras to ground into a game-ending 4-6-3 double play. The twin killing sealed Wisconsin's second straight win and Armold's first professional save. The final game of the five game series is set for Wednesday night. Jorge Lopez (3-6, 5.91) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rattlers. Kane County has Michael Heesch (3-6, 3.52) as their scheduled starter. Game time is 7:05pm. Wednesday is a Bang for Your Buck Night with WIXX which means $1 Cher-Make hot dogs, $1 Pepsi Products, and $1 Miller Beers! Plus, celebrate Independence Day early with a patriotic postgame fireworks display! If you can't make it out to the game, tune in for the television broadcast on My NEW32's Sports Showdown starting with the pregame show at 6:30pm. The radio broadcast may be heard on AM1280, WNAM or timberrattlers.com starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:45pm. Wednesday's game is also available to subscribers of MiLB.TV. HOME RUN: KC: Jeimer Candelario (4th, 1 on in 1st inning off Tyler Wagner, 2 out) WP: Tyler Wagner (7-6) LP: Tayler Scott (4-3) SAVE: Jono Armold (1) TIME: 2:17 ATTN: 2,587 Pitching is…. – Postgame post for July 2, 2013 Wisconsin Boxscore Tyler Wagner is making me happy, hopefully Jorge Lopez continues the trend tomorrow. I'm curious how many runs the organization believes it has picked up with the contact play? There's no way the T-Rats are breaking even, especially if Orlando Arcia is significantly hurt. Beyond those 2 brief thoughts Chris covered the rest in his incredibly detailed game story and blog post. Wisconsin Recap Wisconsin Gameday
  5. I'm always thinking about trying to pilfer TB's pitching, but I don't see it trying to replace Jennings with Aoki. He's basically a 26 year old league average hitter and a good defender, not to mention one of the better all around athletes the Rays have. Aoki's only advantage over him is as a prototypical lead-off guy, that's a pretty narrow window to build a trade around. The Rays just brought up Wil Myers who's been playing RF when he doesn't DH. Myers in RF, Jennings in CF, and Joyce in LF is a pretty darn solid OF. Aoki isn't really an upgrade over the 3 guys I'd play in that OF. Unless you want to make Myers the DH and Kelly Johnson a utility guy, then you could trade Aoki, but what are we looking at getting back? An upper level guy like Montgomery? A lower level guy like Jeff Ames?
  6. Come on, I was one of the first to point out that MA might be part of the problem. Regardless, I'm not into completing shifting blame unto MA. There's a smart way to run a franchise and remain truly competitive year to year and then there is what the Brewers did. The situation didn't have to get this bad. Again I have no doubt that MA is part of the problem, but I highly doubt him and Melvin are as far apart as you want to make it sound. Gord Ash and Jack Z routinely talked about the organization being able to trade for pitching, I just didn't understand what they meant initially, and Melvin has basically followed the exact same path here as he did with TX. I was hoping things would change when MA said that they had basically been spending money to spend money, but then they turned around and signed Lohse. Again I don't doubt MA's influence at all, but if DM can't sell MA on the proper course for a franchise, then he shouldn't be the GM. Essentially he's nothing more than a puppet... MA says he wants a MLB player to fit a specific hole and Melvin goes out and takes care of the details, and if DM won't then MA goes and signs the guy himself. And if MA is no better than a casual fan in that he can't see the value of selling high, well then I'd question how he made all his money in the first place, did he just hire people that were *so good* to make his money for him? He's essentially an investment banker, he should be able to understand all of the various levels of value and properly assign risk, much more so than DM. If this is how it's always going to be with MA as the principal owner then we've already hit our high water mark getting worked over badly in the NLCS, and I need to reassess my Brewer fandom because we're going no where. We'll be the Milwaukee Bucks, always pseudo competitive stuck in the middle hoping 1 more acquisition will push us over the top.
  7. You might be correct, but the signing numbers might be slightly off and so on. I honestly don't know on day 1 how reliable the information is.
  8. Gah I missed this earlier, one stop shop for everything with the signings. 2013 International Signings Central
  9. Not until all is said and done, they can still trade for bonus pool space.
  10. There's the Cubs going after more bonus money as they are expected to be major players in Latin America this year. I always like Jake Arrieta, too bad he's never lived up to his potential.

  14. This will keep being updated by BA over time. Pierre whom the Brewers already signed (linked by And That and now in the thread title) was the only prospect linked to the Brewers in the top 30. Where The Top 30 International Prospects Have Signed
  15. Arcia just injured his right ankle (the same he broke last year) sliding into home on the contact play. He walked off the field while being helped by the trainer and manager. Hopefully it's a sprain and nothing more serious.
  16. If that's what you believe I've been suggesting then you've completely missed my point all these years. Hardy should been gone prior to 2009 for pitching, he was gone anyway with Escobar behind him. Sheets got injured and we couldn't even get a comp pick for him. Sabathia ends up being the 2nd best FA and we lose out on Trout and pick Arnett instead. Hart should have been traded with a year left and now we'll get nothing. Gallardo has tanked to the point does he realistically have much trade value given where his stuff has fallen? We offer K-Rod arbitration and he actually accepts it. Marcum gets hurt and regresses enough that he's not worth a qualifying offer. Every possible move to bring back more talent with the exception of Greinke has worked out in the worst way possible. And the Greinke trade is the only outlier from a trade perspective in Melvin's history. As far as what I wanted Melvin to do, I would have parted with just about any position player other than Braun at any time for more pitching, I've been very consistent on that point since 2008. We didn't need every position player then, we don't need every position player now, we need young impact pitching. Again you can defend Melvin all you want, but operating the way he has always also has had a cost. At some point we have to move past "luck" being a reason take a deeper look at the way the organization operates. Luck can explain outliers but doesn't explain repeating futility on that scale. We aren't snakebitten as a franchise, the baseball gods aren't conspiring against us, this situation was predictable and a small minority of posters has been beating this eventuality for some time now.

  18. Rattlers rally late to edge Kane County Wisconsin beats Cougars 4-3 By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/0/6/4/52417064/cuts/BerberetFive_oo1rthqa_ykok2gft.jpg Manager Matt Erickson congratulates Parker Berberet after his game-tying home run in the seventh inning on Monday night. (Ann Mollica/Wisconsin Timber Rattlers) GRAND CHUTE, WI - Wisconsin Timber Rattlers catcher Parker Berberet hit a two-run home run with two outs in the seventh inning to tie Monday's game with the Kane County Cougars. Victor Roache drove in the go ahead run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth and the Rattlers held on for a 4-3 win at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Tyrone Taylor put Wisconsin (32-44 overall, 3-8 second half) in front and extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a double in the first inning. The Cougars (32-45, 2-9) put their first two hitters on base in the top of the third on a single and an error. It looked like Rattlers starting pitcher Eric Semmelhack would get out of the inning as he retired the next two Kane County hitters to . However, Oliver Zapata tripled to right-center with two outs to drive in both runs to put Kane County in front 2-1. Albert Almora doubled to start the top of the third inning for Kane County and he moved to third on a ground out to the right side of the infield. Semmelhack got the second out and kept Almora at third base. But, Marco Hernandez drove in Almora with a single through the right side of the infield to push Kane County's lead to 3-1. Kane County starter Jose Rosario cruised through the middle innings with that two run lead and retired the first two batters in the bottom of the seventh inning. But, Rosario walked Adam Giacalone on four pitches to bring Berberet to the plate. The Rattlers catcher jumped on the first pitch of the at bat and lined a two-run homer over the wall in left center to tie the game 3-3. Rattlers reliever Martin Viramontes took over for Semmelhack in the top of the eighth inning and pitched a quick 1-2-3 frame to get the Wisconsin bats back in action. Justin Amlung took over for Rosario in the bottom of the eighth inning and walked Alfredo Rodriguez to start the inning. Orlando Arcia was next and he sent a grounder towards right. Second baseman Gioskar Amaya cut off the ball before it got to the outfield and whirled to throw to second to get the lead runner. But his throw was wild to allow Rodriguez to take third and Arcia to move to second. The Cougars elected to walk Taylor to load the bases and set up a force at the plate. Roache foiled the plan with a sacrifice fly to left that drove in Rodriguez with the go ahead run. Viramontes tossed a perfect top of the ninth to nail down the Rattlers victory. Semmelhack allowed one earned run and struck out four over seven innings. His seven innings matched the longest start of his professional career and was his fifth quality start of the season. The first three games of this five game series between Wisconsin and Kane County have all been decided by a single run. Wisconsin has won two of the first three games. Game four of the five game series is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon. Tyler Wagner (6-6, 3.48) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Kane County has Tayler Scott (4-2, 4.09) as their scheduled starter. Game time is 12:05pm. The first 1,000 fans to attend the game will receive a poster of Timber Rattlers All-Star Pitcher Austin Blaski courtesy of Dunkin Donuts. This is poster number seven in a series of ten for the 2013 season. The offer is also available to senior citizens (55 & older) courtesy of Baker Tilly, WVBO, and AM1280 WNAM. If you can't make it out to the ballpark, Time Warner Cable SportsChannel will have the television broadcast. The radio broadcast is available on AM1280, WNAM and timberrattlers.com starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 11:45am. Tuesday's game is also available to subscribers of MiLB.TV. HOME RUN: WIS: Parker Berberet (3rd, 1 on in 7th inning off Jose Rosario, 2 out) WP: Martin Viramontes (1-1) LP: Justin Amlung (3-3) TIME: 2:11 ATTN: 3,883 Wisconsin Boxscore Apparently the awesome Martin Viramontes showed up tonight as he pitched 2 1-2-3 innings. Tyrone Taylor is the best prospect that no one outside of Brewer system prospect watchers is aware of. He still needs to refine his game, but with Stang getting bumped to A+, let's give Tyrone the next challenge. Haniger has quite a bit of positional versatility, but he's not a true CF, at least I didn't get that impression watching him. The T-Rats only managed 6 hits and no player had a multi-hit game, but it was it enough tonight. Wisconsin Recap Going to highlight Viramontes tonight because I find him very intriguing. Kane County Top of the 8th Pitching Change: Martin Viramontes replaces Eric Semmelhack. Dan Vogelbach flies out to left fielder Victor Roache. Jeimer Candelario pops out to first baseman Adam Giacalone. Marco Hernandez grounds out, shortstop Orlando Arcia to first baseman Adam Giacalone. Kane County Top of the 9th Willson Contreras grounds out, second baseman Christopher McFarland to first baseman Adam Giacalone. Reggie Golden strikes out swinging. Gioskar Amaya flies out to right fielder Max Walla. Wisconsin Gameday
