  1. He said all of the contractors they've dealt with on remodels are pretty much the same. Obviously you need to the decide on the quality of the windows you want to buy, then it comes down to the quality of the install and labor cost. He's worked with everyone that advertises on TV, says they are all pretty much the same. The chain stores will have already vetted their subcontractor who will install the windows which eliminates some of the worry on the installation and labor side. Those are you're 2 safest bets on the quality of the window installation. He said the more bids you get (outside of going with a well known chain) the easier it will be for you to figure out the quality/labor cost issue.
  2. Well that was anti-climatic, damn... on to the 12th. I probably won't cover my post about the T-Rats until the morning.
  3. Shuckers forced into must-win after 10-0 loss to Braves Biloxi must win final three with Braves to keep playoff hopes alive Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/9/8/6/199237986/cuts/26371810774_1cde784785_o_hoec0zzz_8rq2rhun.jpg Javier Betancourt picked up Biloxi's lone hit in the sixth inning on Friday night (Jason Clark) Biloxi Boxscore Complete domination by Sean Newcomb = not many positives. Jon Perrin got completely lit up, and Tayler Scott threw more gas on the fire when he come on in relief. Josh Uhen has much better in AA than he was at A+, it's unreal how bad the pitching in BC has been given the extreme pitchers park they play in at home. Biloxi Log
  4. Ha! I just got home, Rocky IV is on AMC with the final fight against Drago and the Rattlers have the bases loaded with 1 out and Isan Diaz up in the 11th.
  5. I was using team control and service time interchangeably as you were, because one directly affects the other. It's fairly easy to buy out FA seasons if the player is worthy, locking them up early. While you are certainly welcome to your opinion, there is very good reason for him to be the opening day SS, he's already played enough in the minors. "Most contenders..." that whole sentence his hyperbole, as one has nothing to do with the other. The prospects you referring to are bumping up from AA, tearing it up, and being delayed for that year of team control, very rarely are they players who have already spent a full season in AAA. It's the same reason Fielder was the opening day 1B in 2006. A similar situation would have been when Arcia started the year hot in AAA and waiting to bring up him up until mid June of this season to delay super 2 status.
  6. My brother is a foreman for one of the better framing companies in the area, I'll ask him tonight who he'd recommend.
  7. If you're coming up I43 take 172 West, get off on the Oneida Street exit (1st exit over the river), when get to down to Pilgrim Street at the bottom of the ramp take a right towards Ashland, and then take Ashland north (left) to either Potts or Lombardi ave, you'll be 3 industrial blocks east of the stadium but you should be able to find parking heading west towards the stadium. I haven't been down by the stadium today but rumor has it LSU fans are already in town and claiming parking spots around the stadium. Ashland to 172 will be quickest way out as well. ***** Coming up I41 you'll have 4 exits to choose from: The Oneida St/Waube Ln exit heading north with take to the east side of Lambeau field, you could still take 172 east and do the Ashland thing, the Lombardi Ave exit takes you to right to the stadium approaching from the West, and the Mason Street exit will put you north of the stadium in a residential area when you get far east to take Oneida St back south. As mentioned most of the houses north and south of the stadium will park, as do most businesses near the stadium, the Packers told me yesterday that the grass lots south of the stadium will be open to the public first come first serve.
  8. What lost year of service time? Arcia would have started 2017 with the Brewers regardless, with his winter ball PAs he's over 2200+ for his MiLB career so it's not like he's been rushed. I do feel the call-up was premature considering Orlando was slumping at AAA at the time, but a month either way has no effect on his service time. An argument can certainly be made that he would have been better off working on his strength in the off season instead of playing winter ball but that is what it is, even without winter ball he would have collected over 2000 PAs by the end of this season. That's pretty impressive considering he missed a year with a terrible injury. Even though Orlando is young, he's been playing professionally since he was 16, he has quite a bit of experience.
  9. This has quite literally been noted in every link report for weeks as Chris updates the playoff chase in each game story.
  10. Nuggets galore in both the game story and postgame. Wisconsin Wins 4-1 to Lower Magic Number to Two Yamamoto strikes out 11 in six innings to take over league lead By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/4/5/6/199085456/cuts/9_1_JordanYamamoto_WEB_IMAGE_x83nupd4_9h0jvxp8.jpg Jordan Yamamoto struck out eleven over six scoreless innings and picked up the win for the Rattlers on Thursday over the Cedar Rapids Kernels. (Wisconsin Timber Rattlers/Ann Mollica) Wisconsin Boxscore Today's Jordan Yamamoto performance was certainly battleship worthy, he came out on the better end of a very entertaining pitchers dual collecting 11 strike outs against just 3 hits and no walks. Complete. Domination. If not for Scott Grist's throwing error the Rattler pitchers wouldn't have allowed any runs while striking out 15, that's putting the hammer down. I found it interesting that Miguel Sanchez was brought on to record the last out, they must really like him to be put in that spot in this situation. The T-Rats were actually no hit through 5 which would have been worrisome if not for the pitching performance but got the most out the hits, errors, and hit by pitches to score as many runs as the team had hits. 11. Shuckers drop series opener to Braves, 5-1 Brett Phillips extended his hitting streak to five games with a triple Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/1/4/2/199078142/cuts/26702068910_e2f493427d_o_ewm3joia_7197c1tk.jpg Tristan Archer struck out five over three innings of relief on Thursday. Biloxi Boxscore Luis Ortiz got smacked around and only lasted 2 innings which took him 57 pitches to accomplish. 4 pitchers from the bullpen combined to allow 1 run and strike out 7 over the final 6 innings. This was a pretty lame effort all the way around, with the Shuckers collecting 2 hits and 5 total base runners in the game, definitely not the kind showing anyone would want in a playoff chase. Come back and get em tomorrow boys. Biloxi Log
  12. No Jim, I think you stated your opinion clearly and without malice, many people are going to jump to the defense of the organization simply because of their fandom or because they have formed relationships with people in those roles. Objectively I'm not sure how anyone could make a compelling argument in a positive manner in regards to the organization's track record developing pitchers, especially the LH pitchers they've let go and have gone on to success elsewhere. I've been on the other side of the fence with this kind of thing and it can be incredibly difficult for people on the inside to accept that they could have done better, or see the issues from a different perspective, especially when there are plenty of people in your ear telling you that you did the best you could. Even if that's true all of us can always do better... and that doesn't mean that your best is good enough for the position you're in. This is a difficult concept to explain, but more often than not distance is the issue. Too far away and you don't have enough information to form a well educated opinion and too close you can be too wrapped up in the details to see the truth, there's a sweet spot there where distance and information gives perspective. However, this is the curse of honestly commenting on situations, it's one of the reasons it's so hard to get Link Reporters, sooner or later everyone gets tired of constantly defending their opinion against a flood of excuses or combative posts. Either you quit helping or you quit offering subjective opinions, MH keeps it positive and most everyone else has walked away.
  13. Rattlers Gain Ground with 3-2 win over Kernels Erceg homers for Wisconsin By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/5/0/8/198900508/cuts/PlayerOftheGame8_31_ukgt6qag_40m5ftbd.jpg Lucas Erceg is greeted by Isan Diaz at the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers dugout in the first inning on Wednesday night. Erceg had just hit a two-run homer to put the Rattlers up 3-2. (Wisconsin Timber Rattlers/Ann Mollica) Wisconsin Boxscore These games where the Rattlers score all of their runs early and then waste limited opportunities through out the rest of the game are way too stressful, which is a definite sign I'm too invested. Conor Harber wasn't exceedingly sharp but was effective. Christian Trent gave up the other run, he's yet to go scoreless in WI. Like Biloxi the Rattlers managed just 5 hits, here Jake Gatewood (2-4,2B) had the only multi hit game, Lucas Erceg's HR will be covered by the game story. 4 of the 5 hits came in the 1st inning, I'd much rather they kept their foot on the gas for the entire game! Trent Clark had another tough day on the bases as well as the field but continues to take walks, his BB rate is fantastic. Wisconsin Log ****** Postgame Post – August 31, 2016 ******
  14. Shuckers deal Generals one-hit shutout and take series Brett Phillips provided the Wednesday's lone runs with a two-run homer in first inning Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/0/0/8/198893008/cuts/Phillips1_pptb8ilr_nl6hhfmv.jpg Brett Phillips blasted his 16th home run and third over his last nine games in the first inning on Wednesday. (Michael Krebs) Biloxi Boxscore Angel Ventura with an awesome outing as the season winds down... 6IP, 1H, 0R, 2BB, 6SO. I could do without the walks but I'll take some improvement. Angel has gone scoreless in 3 of his last 4 outings, but the one game that wasn't a zero was the 8 inning explosion where he was left in to be the sacrificial lamb and gave up 3 HRs. It would be difficult to be more feast or famine than that. The bullpen was stupendous including rehabbing Jacob Barnes, the only blemish was a Preston Gainey walk. Biloxi collect a total of 5 hits but Tyrone Taylor (2-3,BB) is hitting .345 over his last 10, Biloxi Log
  15. Santana was perfectly healthy in the minors, he played everyday on the way back from his rehab assignment. I don't buy the speculation about the players having attitude, practice, or whatever other issue someone might want to conjure in defense of Counsell, and the August trade idea was an extreme reach as well. The simple fact that Broxton and Santana both aren't playing 4 of 5 days is ridiculous. Getting each OF 1 day off a week would give Nieuwenhuis plenty of ABs. I'm extremely skeptical that Counsell is the correct kind of manager for a rebuilding team, or a small market team like Milwaukee. Even if you believe that Nieuwenhuis gives you one more win this year, they are trading win(s) in a year that doesn't matter to stunt the growth of younger players, costing more wins in the future, because each player needs consistent ABs to improve. You don't get better sitting on the bench, you don't gain experience through osmosis.
  16. It's not really even worth getting bent out of shape over anymore, beyond ridiculous. I'm not sure why Counsell has such a great reputation with the fans, what has he really excelled at? As a manager how is he different than anyone else?
  17. He's been a gas can but the organization must see something in him, I was quite surprised by him as well.
  18. I absolutely agree with you, I used to be in that same boat, wanting so bad for a prospect to succeed that when there is finally success it's so incredibly easy to say, "See!". I think that's just human nature.
  19. So Wren received no developmental coaching at Georgia Tech? If we are only counting professional coaching in evaluating players on the developmental curve; college, high school, and latin players would all reach the bigs at the same amount of developmental time. They don't. Age is far more important to the developmental curve than year of professional experience. I believe that in general fans overstate the quality of coaching in college baseball, it's mostly a "if it's not broke, don't fix it" type of scenario, in the same way that fans overestimate just how much development traditionally happened in the minor leagues. Most of the college guys just have more experience against better pitching, so they've going to be naturally better than the competition at the lower levels, Helena for example, than they are as they progress to full season ball. There is such a wide a gulf between the best and worst programs from a coaching standpoint that generally I feel most college pitchers and hitters will take 3 years if not more to reach the big leagues. In that respect they are no different than the best HS players who fly the minors and hit MLB at age 21 or 22. There will certainly be exceptions... young men who were overlooked for any number of reasons who emerge from later in the draft but for the most part the players who move the fastest are the college guys from the top 10 picks or pitchers being used as relievers. However, age and production relative to level are the biggest indicators of future success from where I'm sitting. I've talked quite a bit over the years about a player's 3 year trend and I really only get excited about players who are young and ascending towards MLB. Can Wren and/or Orf be productive MLB players? Maybe? For older players I typically expect a drop of about .50 points in OPS when they move up so both Wren and Orf look like utility players to me. I'd rather have above average athletes, who play sound defense, with questionable bats into those roles... kind of like a developmental role on the ball club. As such I'd much rather have players like Yadiel Rivera and Hernan Perez around. If the light goes on with those physically gifted guys you have another valuable piece in the short term and long term provides more options and more flexibility as pieces are moved around the chess board. If they don't work out after a couple of years then fine, but I'd much rather give high ceiling players every opportunity to succeed, and I do realize that's atypical in that if I guy doesn't perform in 50 ABs fans, teams, the front office, and coaches want a more productive player. There's just not much patience at all in baseball, but I'd prefer under performing higher ceiling players in those roles vs maxed out high floor types. Basically I have no use for CC types on the roster and never have, even MLB regulars like McGehee grate on me, so I don't care if Orf or Wren are protected, hopefully they get their shot with someone and make the most of it if they get selected. I'd be fine with them if we didn't have better (at least in my opinion) utility player options both in the short and long term. I completely understand why posters root for unheralded and performing prospects, especially at the upper levels, but again those players are somewhat disposable and I prefer potential over production in the limited role.
  20. Jackson forces rubber match with 3-1 win over Shuckers Gabriel Noriega collected three hits as Biloxi dropped to 7-2 in homestand Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/3/7/8/198636378/cuts/2Q5A9841_v2mztunb_awjmao5j.JPG Nick Ramirez collected Biloxi's lone RBI on Tuesday with a double in the ninth inning. (Michael Krebs) Biloxi Boxscore Jorge Lopez is just struggling to find last year's rhythm, too many hits, too many walks, too many runs allowed. The best thing you can say is that tonight he gave up singles. I've always like Jorge, for quite a few reasons, but I'm always skeptical of pop up players that greatly out perform the rest of their career in that season. I was fooled before, Hunter Morris and Tyrone Taylor were the last, I want 2 good years before I'm getting exciting about a guy. Biloxi's lone run came in the 9th, but the Shuckers had 8 hits and plenty of base runners early, they just weren't able to push anything across. Biloxi Log
  21. I think Hader gets it as much for political reasons as for performance, I believe Perrin is the better choice. Isan Diaz is the hitter.
  22. People expected his arm to be plus when that was one of his issues in the NFL? Not to mention his throwing mechanics stunk? He can do whatever he likes, but it's awfully late in the game to try and switch gears like this.
  23. That's because HS sports are back, but it does suck.
  24. I hear ya, but I'm much less concerned with this issue past the age of 22. The closer someone is to physical maturity, the less of an issue I believe the innings load is.
  25. Bandits Break Rattlers in Tenth Quad Cities tops Rattlers 2-1 on walkoff single with two outs By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Wisconsin Boxscore The pitching was pretty good, Quintin Torres-Costa and Miguel Sanchez bailed out Trey Supak in the 8th, but Sanchez faltered in the 10th and Carlos Belonis didn't do him any favors in RF bobbling the ball on the final play. Miguel Diaz started and had his best game some time going 4 innings, allowing 1 run, striking out 7, and no walks, I was extremely happy with his performance. Jake Gatewood (2-3,2B,BB) would have had a 3 hit day if not for the right fielder playing extremely shallow in Quad Cities (short porch in RF) and throwing out Lucas Erceg at 2B, but then Jake and Luis Ortiz combined for the horrible play to end the inning on the bases. Belonis has been getting progressively more combative with umpires about the strike zone over the last month, it's actually getting old, I'd prefer he just keep his mouth shut and play. Wisconsin Log
