  1. Arnett's issue in the first outing wasn't a blister, it was a cut that developed on his finger. Now after his 1 batter and 1K, both coaches and the trainer are out to the mound already checking on him. Steve if you read this, can you please qualify "steam" with a true velocity? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif edit. Arnett is sharp early, Prince with an E, but Arnett Ks 2 of the 4 batters, no ball out of the infield.
  2. Koshansky hits a HR and Nasville up 1-0 early. Huntsville scores a run in the first and is leading 1-0 going to the 4th. More bad defense in BC... a fly out to center with runners at first and second, the throw goes towards third but it cutoff and they have the runner from first caught in a run down. The runner who was advancing to 3rd, takes off for home they don't finish the rundown between 1st and 2nd and throw home. The runner at home is safe, and the guy caught in the rundown advances to 2nd. Also, for some reason Bowman throws out a ton of balls, as in he doesn't like them and removes them from play. Bowman gives up 2 more runs, 5-5 now after 4 2/3. edit. Apparently I missed my browser refresh on the AA game, Welch gave up 4 runs in the 4th, Huntsville gets one 1 back in the 6th, Huntsville down 4-2 in the 6th.
  3. Bowman is struggling again today, he just gave up back to back HRs to RF, and then hits the 3rd batter Lopez. 3 BBs, 2 HRs, 1 HBP, and 1 lonely K.
  4. As much as I love this wireless keyboard, it misses keystrokes left and right, and I tend to skip words when I type regardless, so I have lots of editing before I finally hit post. edit Miranda then triples in Farris, who I think singled, I got caught up watching the Brewer game.
  5. BC doing their best to give up more runs... Corporan has the first runner CS by 15 feet and Wheeler whiffs the throw, the runner later comes around to score. Then a DP ball hit to Wilson who throws high to Farris who manages to go up and pull it down to save a run, but all runners are safe and reloads the bases. As I type this Bowman gets a pop-up and a K to get out of the inning. edit. Errecart singles and Gindl hits a HR, BC now up 3-1, this Mejias pitcher for the Stone Crabs has given up 6 HRs now in less than 18 IP on the season... and I thought Rivas had HR issues.
  6. If you can prove that players get individual instruction in the minors I would love to be proven wrong. The lack of individual instruction was why the roving instructors originally came into being. Maybe Brooks will see this thread and comment on what truly happens in the minors. I can tell you this, the Green Bay Bullfrog players don't work on defense much at all, they took batting practice and that was about it. I realize the coaches don't have anything invested in the players for college summer league baseball, but the lifestyle is similar and gives the kids an idea of what they can expect if they get drafted.
  7. Eric Farris is the leading the FSL in stolen bases? Who knew.. well probably many of you, but it got past me. I have a hard time getting excited about him. Gindl with a 2B and BC's first hit. Wheeler doubles and Gindl scores 1-0 BC heading to the bottom of the 2nd.
  8. Boo, hiss, and why? It doesn't make much sense to make a move, just to make a move. Davis' ERA isn't supported by his peripheral numbers and he scares the heck out of me.. Washburn isn't any better than a healthy Bush and why would we help out Boston by taking Penny off their hands? Who's he better than? What's the point of replacing average with more average?
  9. I think they have more time to break him down and work on specific issues simply because they have more coaches. I'm not sure exactly how much work can be done before an MiLB game... they only have 3 coaches and need to get bullpens and batting practice done for everyone.
  10. My argument against this now is not about development as much as it is about service time, originally I was not concerned with service time because Gamel was getting better coaching in Milwaukee and I figured it was only a matter of time before he became a full time platoon player at 3B. I didn't care of they brought up Gamel this year because I hope they'll sign to Braunesque deal buying out a couple of years of FA which would put him the wrong side of 30 by the end of his contract. However to have him sitting around on the bench everyday accumulating service time is short sighted, if that's his role then why not dump Koshansky from Nashville, add Heether to the 40 man, and flip flop Gamel and Heether around and let Adam ride the pine? Heether has more versatility on the bench, though he's not left handed. Didn't Macha say a week or so ago that Gamel was going to get an extended look at 3B? Maybe he meant in 2010...
  11. I'm sure they'd love the business, but the vast majority of the people on the site seem to be from the southern part of the state. If you're heading up north of Green Bay and interested shoot me a PM... the food (my primary concern when they got involved) is excellent and exceeded my expectations by a wide margin. A side note, and I didn't know this till my brother told me, but it turns out that not all fish for the Friday Fish Fries around the state are actually the advertised fish, but a fish of the same family which tastes similar. I was shocked that Walleye isn't necessarily Walleye, Perch not Perch, and so on. It sure does explain why the fish doesn't taste the same as you go from restaurant to restaurant, but I wonder how it's legal to advertise Walleye and serve a different fish entirely?
  12. You can get a "TheCrew07 is starting to get pissed off with Gamel accumulating service time to ride the bench" from me, in 3rd person even...
  13. Yeah they were so hesitant to trade away Aramis Ramirez within the division. I don't believe the Pirates are really that worried about Snell being traded to the Brewers.Different management was in place then.
  14. I can't be the only who chuckled at "the bratty little Cublets" can I?
  15. Unless you live north of Green Bay it's sorta of out of your way... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  16. I went the commercial route and bought fatheads for my brother each for Christmas, they actually look pretty sweet up on the wall in the restaurant his girl friend bought and he's involved with. Here's a link to the Brewers logo at fathead.com, looks to be what you're interested in. http://www.fathead.com/mlb/milwaukee-brewers/milwaukee-brewers-logo/
  17. ha, the exact same conversation for the most part. Weed shouldn't be illegal, blah, blah, blah.../it's not the weed it's the decision making blah, blah, blah
  18. This sentiment seems to be fairly common, but the stats don't bear that out. Last year the Brewers finished second in team ERA at 3.85, the Phillies were 4th at 3.88. The Dodgers were far and away the best club with a team ERA of 3.68.
  19. I never said they did, it would depend on whom is available, and for the cost, my comments were a reflection of current players on the roster not being retained. None of those players have will be retained long-term, and the only one I'd want to the Brewers to consider at this point may be Weeks. Lawrie can slide to a different position if need be, his bat is good enough and he's athletic enough to player anywhere. I also believe we have enough surplus talent to make a deal, but it has to be the right deal. It's been reported regularly that the asking price when people call starts and ends with one of Escobar and Gamel whom won't be moved. There also seem to be many deals where the team trading a pitcher wants pitching back. As we need to move surplus bats for pitching, those organizations and potential players aren't a good match. I've said it many times that I'd rather sign a FA bat than a FA arm, so my primary goal is to upgrade the talent in the rotation without spending 20 mil per season on any single player. No we don't need 2 catchers, but will Salome plus an often injured Green be enough to headline a deal? I really don't know. I like what McGehee has done, but I'm not sold he's an every day solution yet, nor am I ready to hang my hat on Heether yet, but Heether may have some trade value as well. I won't take anything away from Heether, he's performed admirably this year. I agree that if DM makes a move it should be for a type A rental if one is available for the right price. My point that I probably didn't express very well is that we need to start thinking long-term here as our first wave of prospects move into FA. As well as the fact that many pitchers in the rotation lack longevity and will need to be replaced in the next 2 seasons as well. I'm not sure what to think about this season, McGehee has done an admirable job filling in for Weeks, but their are still so many questions today that I'm not certain of the answers. Does Parra regain some form? Will Bush be effective again? Is Braden Looper going to start pitching better? Will Yo be effective late into the season given his workload thus far and lack of innings last season? I just have a real hard time making definitive statements about the rotation. Bedard would help, but I'm not sure he'd be enough to get the team into the post season. If the Brewers aren't post season bound then I'd rather hold onto those pieces and make a move for some pitching in the off-season. I felt things would have to fall just right for the Brewers to get into the post season this year, and things have gone about as badly as they could go from a rotation standpoint, not to mention Hall's continued suckitude plus Hardy and Hart playing below expectations. Another issue that hasn't been widely discussed is Cameron's slide, after batting .333 in April Cameron proceded to hit .247 in May and .149 in June... hopefully he can hit around his career norm from this point foward. Thank goodness McGehee and Counsell have stepped up, because the lineup has been pretty poor out outside of those 2 and Braun/Fielder since May. Maybe the problem wasn't exclusively Yost, maybe the problem is/was that too many of the players in the first wave aren't consistent players yet...
  20. Parra's outing just got ugly. Nashville Player IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA Parra, M 4.2 5 7 6 5 5 0 4.08
  21. I might have to tune in Helena, Krieger might hit 4 out the way he's going.
  22. I was hoping for a sprained ankle or something minor from Dennis, lame... it's been a tough year injury wise on the MiLB side. Here's hoping a speedy recovery to both. McPhearson needed to stay down in R+ in my opinion. I'd rather they bump up a guy like Davis or Stang and let McPhearson have success in R+. edit. With Richardson and the other Davis still to sign there are actually more options to go up now that I think about it, the main point is getting McPhearson some early confidence.
  23. Escobar getting a night off with Heether playing SS. Parra with 2 BBs and 3Ks so far Things aren't going well in Helena, Bucci has given up 3 HRs so far. Helena has hit 2 HRs, Dykstra and Krieger, the H-Crew down 7-6. still hanging in there despite no multihit games.
  24. I'm not trying to waste my time figuring out exactly what was going on, I don't care. I've dealt with enough kids over the years that this chain of events with Jeffress makes me uneasy. I'm not dwelling on speculation, we'll likely never know the full details of what happened with him, I simply stated that this is no longer a random act of indiscretion or a random bad decision, and believing it to be so is pretty naive in my opinion. I don't really care "why" at all, I care that he's been suspended for a second time, after pitching poorly most of the season. His actions demonstrate to me a lack of commitment, which is a cause of great concern to me. The Brewers are in a tough spot, they have try and help him for a variety of reasons, but in the end the only thing that matters is what's going on in Jeffress' head, and I don't like where he appears to be mentally given these recent revelations. He's not a lost cause yet, but I'm going to call a spade a spade when I see it. If others want to make excuses for the lad that's their business, I simply choose to go a different way.
  25. 3 names come to mind immediately... Kazmir, Garza, and Volquez.... nothing much happened this last off-season because I think teams saw what the Rays did and teams that had big offenses but little pitching did in Texas and Detroit. Jackson might also fit the bill, I always read good reports about his stuff but his career didn't really take off till this season. Oddly enough, 3 of the 4 trades that come to mind have a common deomoninator in the Rays, they certainly aren't afraid to wheel and deal for pitching. The climate is definitely tougher now than it was a couple of years ago, but that doesn't mean it can't be done... DM just needs the right situation. This is actually why I'm alright trading for AA pitchers, they are relatively close to MLB but don't have any sort of proven track record so we should be able to easily trade prospects for prospects, or an MLB pitcher for a couple of pitching prospects. We aren't going to significantly upgrade the talent in the rotation in season, even last year Sabathia was essentially brought in to replace Yo's spot in the order. I'm not sure I'd qualify rentals as upgrades anyway, as it doesn't seem very realistic to make a splash for a rental player year in and year out stop gapping a single hole along the way. Making significant changes to the rotation will likely happen out of season until our young prospects starting forcing their up to AA, AAA, then MLB. We could certainly upgrade the rotation talent midseason from within down the road but we're a couple of years away from that yet. I doubt players like Arnett, Scarpetta, Peralta, or Braddock will be ready for the rotation to begin next season, but 2011 could be the start of very good things pitching wise as the young guys could be knocking on the door. Even if Parra comes back and pitches like he should, we still have 3 rotation spots to fill in the next 2 years, I don't think we're a point where dealing for rental players make sense. We still have this core for a minimum of 1 more season, then Hardy will be gone, and we have 2 more years with Fielder and Weeks beyond this year. I'm not sure why we must win now when we'll have the same exact core next year if we want it. If Parra fails, then we have 4 rotation spots to fill... that's a tall order without also having holes coming up at 3B, CF, RF, 2B, 1B, SS, and C. Right now it's pretty safe to say that Gamel will fill one of those position spots, I'm curious how people expect to fill the rest of the holes and acquire a rental for the season? If DM were to make a move I hope it's not for DD, I just don't like way he pitches at all and never have, he gets decent results, but for personal reasons I'd rather he never pitch for the Brewers again. I'd rather it be for significant type A talent which at least would give us the possibility of an extra 1st next season.
