  1. The difference is that had already pitched through A and A+ and started at AA, so his arm was more ready. Villy pitched through AA, AAA, and MLB last year for something like 182 innings... Inman will have about 130 this year max.
  2. Yo! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  3. McClendon doesn't do it for me, he seems to be a soft tossing sinkerball pitcher. His early success is encouraging, but I have to wonder how that's going to translate as he moves up. He better be able to locate like a bandit cause he's going to have a tough time getting the ball past anyone.
  4. I like the pick on the paper, we'll see on the field. I'm finding this draft irritating, how about every team in a big market gets a bizillion extra picks to sign players away from each other? There really needs to be some net loss/gain equation put into the compensation picks somehow. 5 picks for the Padres? They can redraft half a team in the first round... just doesn't seem right.
  5. Because I'm in a hurry, Colby just flat out owns.
  6. Does anyone know much about Corredor? He hit well enough last year, but this year he just doesn't seem to be able to get it going. I never paid much attention because Salome was my primary focus at the position. I was bouncing the web and didn't locate a valuable scouting report. Though I guess now that I'm looking at the stats he's already 3/4 of the way to his AB total from last year so it was a pretty small sample. edit. Speaking of Salome, he hasn't played in 2 days... boohiss.
  7. After watching 4 years of women's college softball because my sister played, I can honestly say it's my least favorite sport. I didn't mind the pitching thing, but the constant cheerleading and all the different cheers drove me nuts. Thankfully my sister's team wasn't big on that, but it was brutally annoying just the same.
  8. It would be really nice for Huntsville and BC to go on extended winning streaks here and put post season trips in the bag.
  9. Like I said earlier, I used to not care because we weren't selling out the stadium. However, this team is decent, and for no other reason than pride I would rather Cub fans never get into Miller Park again. It started with that smug article how "cute" the Brewers were, that's when the Wrigley North thing started to tick me off. It just continues to irritate me, and keeps getting higher on my list to the point I'm thinking of buying weekday tickets for every Cubs game up here next year and making the road trip down from Green Bay.
  10. Coco did pretty well getting 4 outs and more importantly... BALLGAME!
  11. Too much of Coco? to get 4 outs instead of 3? Geez... edit. Peavy isn't being an elitist by any means, perhaps people should think their opinions through before throwing random thoughts down on a message board? Coco was the perfect call for that situation.
  12. Cub fans used to not bother me at Miller Park because they were using up otherwise empty seats. This year it's really annoying playing at home with the pro Cubs faithful making noise with bases loaded in the top of the 8th.
  13. I was hoping Braun would put up a .700 or so OPS, so I've been very pleased so far. As for the 2 DPs he hit into in the one game, he hit both those balls very hard, just right at the SS both times. edit. Yes I know it's a small sample, but I don't expect it to change, he hits pretty much everything hard.
  14. I think maybe we can finally put the anyone over Hart arguements to rest just the like the Hall over Hardy at SS arguement.
  15. How can it be a sport? You sit at a table and drink beer while playing. If stamina makes it a sport because being able to concentrate for long periods of time means something special, then pretty much any job would be a sport.
  16. Wow, talk about a hitters pitch.
  17. BC loses but so does Palm Beach. Huntsville with a nice comeback to take the lead. WV with another come from behind run fest to win as well.
  18. I'm sorry I poorly worded my original post, I was a little tipsy after a long night of drinking, I didn't mean to suggest that the kids that are playing are not talented. In fact, the ones I've met have been very gracious and first class kids, I'm very impressed with them personally. My point was supposed to be that whenever I read Colby's reviews on the top college prospects, it seems like they always played summer ball in the Cape. I remember a recap of Braun having hit well in the Cape for example, and if the NWL ever had a realistic shot at getting the top college talent such as him? Most of the baseball talent seems to be in the south east, the south, and the west coast. I look at the coaches in the NWL, and most are from schools I've never heard of. I don't have a clear understanding yet of how the recruiting is done for the leagues, but it would stand to reason that to draw top talent, you'd have to get good coaching first? I would think that the coach, the facility, and the experience would all come into play. So how does the NWL draw top talent away from the more established Cape league. It just seems to me that summer baseball and the Cape Cod league go together, in the same way that football goes with the fall, and so on. Also I was unsure how the leagues compare from a stadium, attendance, and quality of experience standpoint. I was impressed with how well the Bullfrogs did making the game an experience. However if the Bullfrogs want to compete for local dollars they are competing against the TRats in Appl-eton which is an affliated A+ professional baseball and facility. Colby you were right about the travel, there is one team in Canada, and the new team from Battle Creek, MI is currently in town playing the Bullfrogs.
  19. Wouldn't it be logical that your BA would be consistent with or without runners on base? The reality is that it's not that simple, but I would guess that's his logic.
  20. My only complaint really about the game is letting Bush pitch the 7th. It just seems like he's 5-6 inning pitcher this year, eventually he's going to blow up and it's best not to push it. I just don't have a good feeling going into the 6th or 7th if Bush is still on the mound this year. I'm sure stats won't back me up, but that's my impression from watching the games.
  21. This is mostly for Colby, but anyone is welcome to chime in, I'm pretty uneducated in regards to this. I attended the home opener for the Green Bay Bullfrogs tonight, mostly because a very good friend of mine is hosting 4 players and gets free season tickets. The Bullfrogs won in extras, it was a pretty sloppy game, lots of errors and wild throws and such. I had always got the impression from various people who post on the minor league forum that the NWL was pretty much a joke, and considering Weaver and Pierre are the 2 best players to come through the league I can see that point of view. However, tonight I was looking through the media guide/program and every single team in the NWL set attendance records last year, and they are trending positively again early this year. I won't go through the names, as browsing the players on the rosters (Battle Creek and Green Bay) I didn't see a single name that I recognized other than the local kid from Pulaski. I guess my question is this, if attendance continues to rise and the ball parks improve, is there ever any hope of the NWL competing with the Cape Cod league for the best prospects, or is that a pipe dream of sorts? We had a lengthly debate about it at the game tonight and I'm curious as to what people more educated than myself think about the subject? After witnessing a game that really reminded me of high school baseball in the area, I was of the opinion that the quality would never match the Cape Cod league. The other side had some valid points, this is a starting point, things should only get better and so on. I'm really curious what other people think about the subject.
  22. I don't look at one box score or a certain's players boxscore. I generally look at pretty much everything and everyone. I have my favorites of course... Yo, Brewer, Inman, Salome, and Cain to name a couple. I guess i'm up and down, I find the hot and cold streaks intriguing so I'll watch a player more closely until their stats level off where I expect them to be. For example, I've kept a pretty close eye on Palmisano and Gillespie all year. Braddock was off, then on, now off again because he's not pitching. Occassionally I'll miss a guy, like Gamel, who was homerless and slugging .314 and wonder how I possibly missed it that late in the season. Basically, I really enjoy the minor league side, and while I have a couple of must see players, generally I pretty much look at everything. The one thing I don't take time for, is the different game summaries from all the different sources, and sometimes I just skim the summaries do to lack of time, but I always take time to check out the box score and the game log.
  23. This doesn't surprise me at all. Too bad for the young man. Shoulder and elbow problems... you have to wonder if one lead to the other.
  24. If you move Braun out of the 3 hole, and drop Hardy a spot, which undesirable option bats second?
  25. Huntsville scoring runs in bunches suddenly, 5 more runs while I was at the grocery store. Could be another clean sweep for the organization! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
