Steve Phillips is the last person I would take their word on in regard to this trade.. I am all in on what Hardicourt says.. everybody else is making it up as far as I am concerned.. unless Peter Gammons or someone from CNNSI starts weighing in.. Edit: I should clarify by CNNSI i basically just mean Verducci or Heyman.. all the others are as reliable as philips. I don't even know if Steve Phillips has ever left New York..

I too would prefer to give it to Brewerfan.net rather than Yuku.. since this is the only Yuku site I use it doesn't make sense to not give it directly to you guys.. Yes a Yuku membership would allow me to view for free but I would rather donate to where all users can continue to view for free withouth distraction in the new "Googled" world.

I agree I was confused and curious.. You make a good point about feeling the need to refresh... however, personally since there basically has been very little news the last 24 hours it has been a nice outlet to hear a discussion that was passionate but didn't delve into personal attacks like so many others on the Internet. That level of respectfulness is one of the main reasons I frequent this site. I acknowledge that the moderators have the right to lock threads they deem outside the appropriate use. My concerns is that it will drive away Brewer fans that I have enjoying conversing with. I looked through the rules and from my interpretation the thread was appropriate though I admit I only read about 3/4 of the posts. On a personal note, earlier in the thread I implemented a new BF.Net rule that if it reached a 100 pages that trade would be forced to go through to meet the will of the people so I should state that in the interest of full disclosure.

Please keep politics, religion, and sex out of the forum. Fairly or not, these topics have regularly resulted in threads going out of control. Discussion of contentious topics such as racial and ethnic issues should be avoided as well. A special forum for politics and religion is available at Brewerfan Political Scene. Condescending talk toward other posters (including but not limited to name-calling, baiting and flaming) is not allowed. Other Brewers-related message boards are more tolerant of "talking smack" to other users, and we suggest you go there if that's what you're about. Keep basic play-by-play action out of the In-Game Threads. It's fine to describe the details of a particular play for posters who lack video, but in an age of online real-time game updates, play-by-play one-liners (e.g. "Kapellusch with a single") are unnecessary. Try not to be repetitive. It doesn't take long for an initially interesting topic to turn into a dead-horse beating session. Site staff will lock threads that they believe duplicate an existing discussion. Go light on 'one-liner' posts. We don't rule out all brief comments, especially in the chat room and in-game threads; but a constant stream of snarky one-liners detracts from the forum's quality and will not win you many fans. I did see one incident where someone accidentally posted content and then apologized later and explained it as a mistake. I was some one-liners but earlier there was a warning to be more brief with quotes and so forth so that is somewhat contradictory.. also it is lively discussion. Finally I can only think the "repetitive" posting is in play..which I can understand however some of the problem is that people are posting updates of articles / tv which are re-hashing so that is part of that.. also in 61 pages how do you not have repeat type of activities? I think this was poorly done and communicated and I understand the need to keep this site a welcoming place for fans but my biggest concern is that fans are respectful of each other which to me the entire 61 pages was. This should be an example of how to be civil when opions widely vary on a passionate topic. Trying to scare members from posting seems to go against what the site stands for.

Only thing that would make up for missing out on Sabathia would be to get Harden..

Yes! Yes! Yes... it sounds like a lot but we are getting a known quantity versus potential and question marks.. even after the trade the Brewers still have a farm system in the top 3rd..

I totally agree.. to think that we would trade one of 3 or 4 guys who can hit 50 HR's is ludicrous.. much less talk about a straight up Sabathia for Fielder Trade.. if we didn't have Fielder and were trying to trade for him we would most likely have to give up Gamel, Laporta, and Braddock to even get close.. Or we could probably get Chamberlain AND Hughes/Kennedy from the Yankees in the offseason.. The only way I could see a Sabathis for Fielder trade is if they took Suppan, Gagne, AND Hall so we could clear salary to try to sign Sheets or Sabathia long-term.. signing both is also never going to happen..

I agree.. that this shouldn't preclude a Maddux deal.. how about giving them TGJ and Errecart and seeing if you can get Thatcher back so we can stop complaining about the Linebrink trade..

Would we trade Gallardo for a prospect like Laporta? I say no so why would other teams trade a young, established pitcher they control for a few years?

Actually, Roberts is signed through next year at $8mil in 2009, which is more than fine with me if we trade for him. My bad.. thanks for the clarification.. I agree this makes it even better as we can bring escobar up to be the utility IF and have an option if Bill Hall continues to pull a Turnbow..

Ok.. the Linebrink trade is a good reason why doing this makes sense.. let's see we traded for a bullpen rental and this season the Padres: - Have relief pitcher with a 7.40 ERA - 2 AA Prospects yet. The Brewers got: - 1/2 season with a sub-.400 ERA - 2 Prospects So the Brewers took a shot and at this point are not necessarily worse off.. In fact none of the 3 pitchers sent to SD may not amount to anything.. And for the people that can't understand why the Brewers are taking a shot how about: - Their ace will be gone next year. - Suppan will not be better - Their bullpen is relatively ancient (Mota, Shouse, Torres, Gagne) - It doesn't appear that Weeks and Hall will bounce back at this point. - Cameron, Branyan, and Kendall are over 30.. - Prince is chubby.. Now with that said they still set themselves up for a decent future but they have a legitimate world series shot if they can fill in a couple of holes.. This is the CY YOUNG award winner... Remember when we were happy to hear about Zambrano going on the DL.. us adding Sabathia is the equivalent of Z being out for the year.. it has the chance of that much impact. Roll the dice and let's play some October/November baseball...

Yes.. if Gallardo was healthy and in AAA at this point.. we would trade him.. we would just promote him and put him in the rotation. So I can't see the Dodgers doing that.. I also can't see the Brewers trading 1 of only 2 viable pitching prospects (Braddock) being the other..

I might have to book a trip to Milwaukee to watch a Zambrano - Sabathia match up.. not only would would I go hoarse yelling after Sabathia took him deep but watching him thow up and in to Zambrano would be awesome..

I agree.. it is not just the 40% which they could maybe do for a year or two it is the 40% for 6 years on two pitchers that is not likely.

Yes if subtract: Sheets: $10 million Cameron: $6 million Counsel: $3 million Gagne: $10 million Mota: $4 million Turnbowl: $4 million Capuano: $4 million You have $40 million even before a possible Bill Hall trade. Now yes some of that is going to be eaten up by arby / raises but that is quite a bit to make a run at either, especially if you can dump Suppan and/or Hall on someone at 70% of thier salary ($10 million more).
