  1. Is there any risk if they give him what he wants ultimately. Tigers have essentially negotiated to the final moment to get the price down and then agreed to outrageously lavish contracts with guys like Porcello. They will give him and Boras what they want at 11PM on Aug 14th.
  2. I have stopped fixating on LaPorta. My concern is using a 4th round pick on a guy with the ceiling to be someday a utility infeilder (the consensus on him). He doesn't have any real plus skill. He is 21 and it looks like we used a 4th to hopefully (and at this point all of this is based on hope) find a replacement for Counsell or Graffy. Scrappy infeilders are nice but you 3rd pick of the day.
  3. I agree. However I wished the Brewers would have taken a shot at him. It seems that there are 25 or so teams abiding by these slot rules and there are 4 or 5 that are not. THe 4 or 5 that are not essentially make the slot rules meaningless and the teams that abide continue to get hurt by the rule while the Detroits, New Yorks and Bostons fatten up. I don't think that is the purpose of a draft.
  4. I agree. I was feeling the same way. It seems that all the rules to assure competetive balance is doing the opposite. Also, the slotting seems to be hurting teams like the Brewers while a hand full of team with owners with deep pockets simply ignore it and load up on guys like Miller and Porcello. My problem with LaPorta isn't that I don't think he can hit. It is with the 7th pick in the draft I expect to see a guy with more of a future upsode. I think LaPorta is about as good as he will ever get right now. Also, I apolgize to him and Jack Z but this just feels like a reach at 7.
  5. I like the Lucroy pick, but OK where is the beef. For the folks who don't like having to wait on HS players we will see now. 3 college picks and all 4 position players. No pesky arms to worry about. These three guys have to move fast (the first 3 picks). If they aren't in AAA after a couple seasons I would be very worried. THis is how I used to feel after the first day of a Sal Bando draft. JAck Z your my man but I am having a hard time feeling you after the first 4 picks. I like Lucroy a lot and Gindl some.
  6. The Problem is that he hasn't really progressed as a hitter since his sophmore season.
  7. I just got from the dentist and saw this pick. I absolutely hate it. This guy can barely play 1B. He is natural DH.
  8. Ditto. I really like Portcello, but it isn't all my money (just a small percentage). Ditto, and I think despite all the chatter I think Moustakas will be sitting there for the Brewers. However I have zero confidence that he will be a catcher. Corner OF or 3B, yes but not a catcher. Aren't the tools of ignorance a product of breeding and geneshttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  9. I just refuse to believe that Porcello will fall this fair. Again not just any prospects. This kid is off the charts. I mean for the draftniks out there, am I misreading the comments about him. Isn't he considered a rare talent. I mena the Dodger, Cardinals are frightened off a talent like this picking where they are?
  10. He has a formula and I don't see him varying from it. It will either toolsie athlete, big HS arm with a plus-plus-plus fastball if he there that has a high ceiling or a impact bat. THat has been the formula. Like you don't like HS pitchers he believes college pitchers are overvalued because of the lack of projectability for many of them and their work loads in college. You might disagree but I think Jack does go through this like an old school scout. I think the Brewers will either take 1. Moustakas 2. the HS arm with the highest ceiling availible if Moustakas is gone (Porcello or Parker; I really think the Brewers because they do not pick until 71 or whatever again will be "willing" to shell out money for a guy like Porcello. He is not just another HS arm, he is one of the best pitching prospect in the draft and would be the #1 pick if he were from FLA, TEX or CA). He simply shouldn't be sitting there when the Brewers picks. 3. If options 1 and 2 wash out they take Heyward who is the best tools guy at the top of the draft. I just don't see Jack Z taking a college pitcher or reaching down for guys who are top 15 but not really a talent who should be taken at #7 to save money. They have passed on guys but the prospect they took fits the Jack Z profile and in each case I believe the folks who he has passed on have been College Pitchers with very steep financial cost associated with each. Jack Z has a pattern and it is pretty consistent.
  11. 1. Hart 2. Weeks 3. Hardy 4. Feilder 5. Braun 6. Hall/Jenkins 7. Jenkins/Hall 8.Estrasda/Miller 9.Pitcher Spot
  12. Today Goldstein at BP has Porcello dropping all the way down to Detroit at #27. If true the Tigers could be adding another power arm to their system which is littered with them. THis waht I have been suspecting all along. The real loop hole MLB needs to close is the ability of guys like Porcello and previous Borass clients to go off and wait a year and re-enter the draft the next year and get what they want. If you get drafted (since they have dumped DFE), make them have to wait two years before they can re-enter the draft just like guys who got to college. Ditto for guys who go to JC. Make them lose two years of income and top level competetion to wait around and turn it into a real risk. Some how some real risk has to be attached to Borass' strong arming.
  13. I was shocked in every game of this series that the Cubs pitched to Feilder. I wouldn't give him a thing to hit and take my chances with Estrada, Jenkins and Hall. Why pitch to Feilder?
  14. I know that but without a second ronder to get a first-second round talent maybe take a risk with him some where between 3-6. I know I am being a bit over the top.
  15. First 5 picks in no particular order.... Jason Heyward -- GA (Corner OF) Chad Jones -- LA (Corner OF) Scott Alexander -- CA (LHP) Denny Almonte -- FL & DR (CF) Austin Romine -- CA (Catcher)
  16. The Brewers really need to restock with bats and I would love to see them take Heywerd if all the other bats are gone and then take a flyer on a guy with Chad Jones from Baton Rouge.
  17. I hate that they might do it but I am starting to think that Gallardo is going to be here before the All Star break. I just hope he is inserted in the rotation and one of the vets is put in the bullpen. Hopefully Parra gets promoted to AAA when Gallardo is called up and is the next major promotion to give us another LHP out of the pen.
  18. I hope this doesn't fall under ressurecting the Gywnn threads. I feel the same way about Gross that I feel about Gywnn. They are spare OFs. If you play them everyday the things you like about both gets minimized fairly quickly. If they pinch hit and start a couple times every couple weeks they are fine, but if the Brewers are forced to use either one for much more we are in trouble. I knew you would find a way to get Hall in the infeild. What happens to Weeks when he returns? I know he is what he is.
  19. f is for folding-money or frosting-cake. What could you possibly think I meant.
  20. Sure if there is no track record with Bush. Bush has a track record of coming apart quickly. Ned has had him for how many seasons? How many times have we seen this movie before. Bush walks the lead off hitter or plunks him with a pitch or gives up a screwming double into the right feild corner. What does that signal in the 6th or 7th inning of a close game, it is time to get Bush. Any idiot can go get a pitcher once he is a full blown mess. Part of Ned's job is to know his pitcher, not to project his iwish and dreams on them. Bush is a six inning pitcher. He is not the little bulldog who battles himself out of jams. Late in the game he doesn't do anything but get torched. At this point a good manager would know how to use Bush to give him the best chance to win. Bush isn't a tough luck pitcher he is poorly managed one. I have been careful not to rip Ned but tonight's loss frustrates me more than any loss all season. Another reason is Estrada hitting 5th. It has bothered me for weeks and no one can give me rationale reason why Ned sticks him in the 5 hole every f---ing night. His inability to be patient to get qa pitch to drive in RBI situations is obvious even to a dolt like me. I mean the guy has killed so many innings with hsi crappy at bats early in games that it is becoming an embarassment.
  21. There are several vets on this team and they make more money than the kids ; Mench, Estrada, Cousell and Graffanino need to start pulling their weight.
  22. I've been asking the same question for a about 3 weeks. Since the last road trip at least.
  23. I hope Jenkins isn't hurt bad enough to miss in sginifcant games because Ned will have Gwynn hitting behind Prince.
  24. Another quality at bat by one of the vets on the team. Does anyone on this team know how to read a scoreboard?
  25. I don't know I guess Ned thinks we have a 8th inning rally in him. The kids are going ton have win this one. Hart, JJ, Prince and Braun.
