  1. I'm not for "established roles" in the pen, but Kintzler late in a 1 run game is just assinine.
  2. Why is Kintzler in the 8th again? Thornburg, Smith, K-Rod in close games late. What is the deal here?
  3. Let's bust this thing open and get Wang some work. Thought he could have gotten work last night (5 run lead).
  4. Watched Cardinals/Cubs on ESPN last night...Cardinals/Braves on ESPN tonight...with a graphic between outs reminding me it'll be Cardinals at Pirates on Sunday night. Sigh.
  5. "But by far as DHonks points out the managerial mistake that cost them the game was taking Smith out". Agreed. It was a setup situation. It needed to be Smith or Thornburg pitching the 8th and Rodriguez for the 9th.
  6. Happens all the time at the youth level. Obviously this is the MLB, but I've seen it there as well. For whatever reason, when a hitter shows bunt, the pitcher loses their mind at times and start throwing the ball all over like Derrick Turnbow.
  7. Other things also go RIGHT for the offense when they try to sac bunt. Pitcher gets worried trying to prevent the bunt that they throw a wild pitch. Or try not to be fine and avoid the strike zone leading to a walk or hit batter. Or the defense fields and tries to get greedy and get the out at 3rd and throws the ball into left field. A successful sac bunt wouldn't have mattered in this case as Segura couldn't lift a ball far enough anyhow. I do agree that the alternative to the bunt I would have preferred was a left handed hitter. Somebody would could have made contact and moved the runner to 3rd on a fly ball or ground ball WHILE still having the potential for a base hit.
  8. Why does that bother you? You realize V = 5, right? I don't know. I can only debate our XXV man roster so many ways. This MMXIIII season is so exciting, that I can't contain myself to not use roman numerals where they aren't normally.
  9. "Rule V" :bangs head on the wall:
  10. He DOES NOT need to PITCH WELL to CONTRIBUTE. He DOES NOT need to PITCH OFTEN to GROW. He DOES NOT need to pitch 4 days a week to keep the bullpen from TIRING. His presence as the 25th man is not losing ballgames or keeping the team fom CONTENDING. The RISK of drafting him HAS NOT GROWN since the day he was selectedd, but the REWARD continues to creep closer. He may NEVER throw an inning in MLB beyond 2014, it doesn't make his roster placement any less valid.
  11. That is one of the myths... except that facts show they HAVEN'T been overworked and are well under average compared to other MLB bullpens.
  12. Except that going into today, the Brewers relievers were 26th of 30 in innings pitched and appearances. There has been no wear and tear or extra appearances out of them. The 7th reliever on 22 of the 30 teams have less appearances/innings than Wang. Wang being the 7th reliever has zero effect on the team or its capability to win. He ate innings today just the same as anybody else's 7th reliever. Releasing Wang to put Figaro in the same role adds zero wins. Since it's not affecting our ability to contend, why not keep the "piece"?
  13. If you work out a trade, he can be sent down without waivers, because this would be his first option year (as his first year on any team's 40-man roster). Without a trade, he would have to clear waivers before Pittsburgh could re-claim him (without adding him to their 40-man roster?). No, No, No. Wang CANNOT be traded to circumvent the Rule 5 draft. HE MUST BE WAIVED in order to go to the minors. If he is traded, the team he is traded to MUST keep him on their 25-man roster the same as the Brewers do. Some people have been falsely alluding that a trade can be worked out with Pittsburg to circumvent the Rule 5 draft and then send him down and that is simply not true either. The ONLY way the Brewers can send Wang to the minors is if all 3 things happen, #1- He is waived... #2 - He is not claimed by ANY of the other 29 teams who would be willing to house him on their own 25-man roster #3 - Pittsburg refuses to take him back for $25,000. Pittsburg has no incentive to trade us ANYTHING of value for somebody they can just stick back in their own 40-man for 25k. The initial comment quoted is correct, the reply is not. The same thing happened when the Twins traded R.A. Dickey to the Mariners. Dickey had to clear waivers before the teams worked out a trade.
  14. For the past week, pages in the forum take approx 45 seconds to load. What gives? Server issues? Every other page on my browser and phone browser load without issue.
  15. He doesn't need to be. He just needs to be on the roster for 90 days, then can go on the 60-day DL and be returned to the minors next year all without hurting the Brewers playoff chances 1 iota. As somebody else said, would the Brewers be 19-4 with Figaro instead of Wang? Can we please, please, please stop saying we can simply work out a trade with Pittsburg to circumvent the Rule 5 process, That is making me crazy. It's simply untruthful and causing lots of problems about the process of what CAN be done with one's Wang. If Wang is to be off our 25man roster, he HAS to be waived or DL'd. Being DL'd would require 90 days of service time on the 25man (over 2 years) to fulfill the obligations of the Rule 5 draft.
  16. IIRC, players cannot be added to the 25 man during any suspension for on field conduct. Trying to replace Madly or Gomez would require somebody else being moved. Better off playing short.
  17. When Weeks plays defense like that, you'd almost rather Scooter make some outs vs lefties.
  18. I also don't feel I have much to add to the original question, but I will say that this "team with too many gigantic holes to compete" has the most wins baseball. Does that sustain over 162 games? Probably not, but it's like anything else with a team, at some point in the season those holes will be carrying the team for a few days/weeks when the hot starters regress to their norms. I think the time to make the moves regarding position players is July or when somebody is OBVIOUSLY breaking down doors in AAA to deserve a callup. I haven't seen that yet. The only three position players doing anything productive seem to be career AAA guys over the age of 32 or named Taylor Green. Fiers is pitching well, but where do you put him? The status quo (with the most wins in baseball) seems to be sufficient for now. The Tampa Bay Rays (in a historically tougher division) EVERY year have 4 holes just like ours on the offensive side but dominate with their pitching to give themselves a chance in October. I find nothing wrong with that mold. What Tampa usually fails to do though is fill ANY of the holes at the July deadline. I believe in Melvin to do better than that.
  19. Pitch selection looking horrible again today as it has really all season. Gomez watches two that he could have drove go by his thighs to get to 0-2, then swings at one that lands in the opposite batter's box.
