  1. Wang could have a 10.00 era and pitch 50 innings and it wouldn't matter as to decision to select him in the Rule 5 draft. He wasn't selected to shine in 2014 at the big league level. He was selected because his upside is better than what they have currently at the same age in the minor league levels. Whether he ever spends a day on the 40man or 25man or gets back to the big leagues after 2014 still isn't a reason to not select him in the Rule 5 draft. Somebody "who's earned it" (the 25th man) isn't going to help the Brewers MORE in 2014 than Wang. Quite frankly, there isn't anybody in AAA that's earned it, in my opinion beyond the word longevity. The gamble of giving away the 25th spot on the active roster to a left hander with tremendous upside, isn't that great of a gamble in my opinion. Unfortunately, since you decided to reshow in this thread after a bad outing looking to call it his career, I think it's going to take 4-5 years before one can truly determine the merit of his selection.
  2. The rule/article clearly states, "plays made around/near the bag".....the Outfielder example doesn't apply. Their requirements to making a catch are the same. If they bobble on transfer throwing it back to the infield, it's still an out.
  3. Didn't we used to have a thread that listed ligitimate message boards of all the other 29 teams? If somebody could find that again, I would be appreciative. I too like spying on the conversations of other fans.
  4. While I don't doubt what you are saying, I kind of find it hard to believe that EVERY FRIDAY, the starting pitcher decides to wear the retros. Clearly there are times when the club does decide?
  5. Yes. A scenario where he accepts market value. Whatever that may be.
  6. Our game staff played Sweet Caroline in the 8th inning?
  7. Seems like obstruction should have been called on the pitcher?
  8. Overbay, on base twice again today. RRR making all the right moves.
  9. I can't see complaining about Segura's bat slump when he plays D like that.
  10. At SOME point should we look at extending Lucroy? Yes
  11. IIRC, Wainwright pitched for several years after a partial UCL tear. Quite successfully, with only rehab and not surgery.
  12. The Brewers cannot simply keep Wang (through an immediate trade with the Pirates) and send him to Brevard/Huntsville. The Brewers have not given any names to the Pirates and shown their hand as to who they'd be willing to part with. In order for Wang to spend any part of 2014 in Huntsville or Brevard would take WAIVING Wang, not being claimed by the other 28 teams AND Pittsburg declining to put him back in their own minor league system for 25K. I don't think the Brewers INTEND to keep Wang on the roster all season, but that's because I think they will DL him after the 90 days of service time is complete. No trade is imminent and CANNOT be completed until after he clears WAIVERS and Pittsburg says, "No, we don't want him back for 25K, we'd rather take one of your A-ballers who isn't even on your own 40-man roster"
  13. Doth protest too much? I'm not accusing you of acting like the morality police, I'm firmly stating it. You, through your words, have a desire to be okay with punishing him for his dishonesty. He has violated what you think is moral behavior and you are going to police it through your actions, whether it be at the ballgame through booing or here in this message board. That's not an accusation, that's factual. I am not acting like the morality police because I haven't cared about his morals from the start. I have no desire no rein in Ryan Braun for anything he does. I don't have ANY contempt for you. I haven't expressed any contempt for you. You can do as you please. I don't believe that I or anybody on this message board is morally superior to you. In fact, that's kind of the point. The only morals I need to be concerned with are my own and my children until they can make their own choices. Ryan Braun's morals don't concern me. Expressing one's contempt, through booing, for his morals is what I find to be laughable. I haven't gone through a process of forgiving Ryan Braun, because I haven't cared about his "transgressions" in the first place. To bring the conversation back to the topic, I REALLY don't think fans of other teams give a hoot either, in all honesty. It's just the popular thing right now to show discord for his morality by booing. At the end of the day, those fans go home, don't think about Braun again, and likely violate similiar morals (lying) within their own lives sometime thereafter.
  14. Ref Cubs/Cards/whoever - Nope. I never boo ANY player. I don't shout obscenities from the bleachers at players. They are simply men who put their britches on the same way I do and play a game for a different company than the one I want to succeed. I followed McGwire and Sosa and cheered their powerful homeruns. I could really care less about PED's. I could really care less that he lied. He didn't lie to me directly. I could care less that he looked like a tool in a press conference. Bill Belichick lies weekly in his press conferences and looks like a tool. It doesn't affect one bit my desire for my team and it's employees to perform well. I HAVE ZERO DESIRE TO BE THE MORALITY POLICE. I think that those that are booing, making signs in public that say "Expletive cheater", like I witnessed in Boston, feel some inate desire to be the morality police. And for what? Like somebody said earlier as I witnessed in Boston, the people booed for 4 seconds, then sat down and watched the rest of the at bat. They went home that night not giving two turds about Ryan Braun. Some of them booed out of the peer pressure of their neighbor who booed. It was quite laughable. "Look at me...I'm ANNNNGRRRRRY!!!" Someday, they'll go back to booing something of substance, like checking the runner at first twice in a row"
  15. His pregame quote. Apparently just blowout LOSSES then. Shameful.
  16. Braun secretly called Rodgers right after he called Kemp, Tulo and Joey Votto, and told him, too that Dino Laurenzi Jr was an anti-semitic Cubs fan who kicked dogs, and stole lollipops from babies. Haven't you heard? Yeah. I've never understood this view that Braun ruined Laurenzi's life..blah blah blah. The dude didn't follow procedure and it probably wasn't the first time (people presume Braun didn't just use once, so we can likely say the same for Laurenzi). Laurenzi gets zero sympathy from me. To say that Laurenzi was slandered by Braun is laughable, imho.
  17. I completely agree. I was at both the Friday game and Sunday game at Fenway. The boos were kinda mild to be quite honest. 4 seconds of booing and then everybody got back in their seat. While I've never quite understood the "I'm going to boo because I'm showing my displeasure" thing, it's their right, so have at. I did have one lady behind me who turned to her friend and said, "I don't understand how that cheater can run out to the outfield with his head up". I promptly turned and asked, "I reckon the same way Manny Ramirez trotted out to this same outfield with his head up?". She looked at me like I had 3 heads but couldn't formulate an intelligent sentence yet alone open her mouth. She said nothing about Braun the entire game and in fact, didn't even boo the rest of his plate appearances. Somebody in her row (a Red Sox fan) tried explaining to her that Garciaparra and Ortiz were also users, from his personal knowledge that he had somehow, but she was having none of it. In general, like somebody else said, most fans of other teams only know so much about the Brewers that they hear from the national media.
  18. Color me convinced. All this time I thought TJ surgery was simply making the player whole, when in reality it was making them better than whole. Not better than whole for the purpose of lifting a grandson atop one's shoulders or putting milk away in the fridge, but better than whole for garnering future higher contracts, outperforming your opponent and producing better than average results in professional sports. Pretty much PED's, except one is "accepted/legal" and one isn't. #enlightened
  19. Anybody watching the tv feed today that thinks Dominic Brown is a loafer? He doesn't hustle to ANYTHING before lobbing it back to the infield. I would be annoyed with him if I were a Phillies fan.
  20. No, it is correct. You can't circumvent the rules of the Rule 5 draft. The player must be waived and NOT claimed by the other 28 teams BEFORE a trade can be completed. The Mariners and Twins did it with Dickey. Here's your source: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080329&content_id=2464940&vkey=news_mlb&c_id=mlb&fext=.jsp The Brewers CANNOT simply just work out a trade with Pittsburg that involves Wang and send Wang to AA, it doesn't work that way. These posts that have been implying such are not true. Wang must be released, clear Waivers, be pased on by 28 other teams, AND Pittsburg not want to spend 25k to put him back in their own AA ball system. It just simply isnt going to happen.
  21. I keep hearing this spread around, but it can't happen. The Brewers cannot just work out a trade with the Pirates to circumvent the process of the Rule 5 Draft. If the Brewers want to move Wang off the 25-man roster, they MUST waive him. He then MUST clear waivers in order to be offered back to the Pirates for 25k. At that point, the Pirates are at the same place with him, that they were at before the Rule 5 draft and can keep him in the minor leagues, with no incentive to trade him to Milwaukee. The Brewers and Pirates CANNOT just simply work out a trade to cancel the Rule 5 provisions. While Wang can be traded to Pitttsburg and then BACK to Milwaukee, the rest of the league would call collusion and IT STILL wouldn't cancel the terms of the Rule 5 draftee needing to be on the 25 man roster. The ONLY way this can happen is if the player is WAIVED and NOT CLAIMED by the other 28 teams AND if Pittsburg fails to take him back for 25K, which ISN'T going to happen.
