  1. When a player gets claimed on waivers this time of year, the team that put the player on waivers can either pull him back, work out a trade with the team that claimed him, or let the claiming team take on his contract for nothing in return. The Reds claimed him, and if the reports of Ryan Braun telling Dickerson there was a chance he'd be coming to Milwaukee a couple days ago, they probably claimed him a couple of days ago as well.
  2. Well, this is interesting, to say the least. Escobar RF Counsell SS Weeks 2B Fielder 1B McGehee 3B Cain CF Inglett LF Lucroy C Narveson P Not a typo. Edit: Haudricourt says that Hart gets the night off with a stiff back (after he was pulled early yesterday), and Braun gets the day off with a sore wrist. Looks like Dickerson isn't getting into town until 5 PM.
  3. Mainly, I just want to be entertained every night. Finish the season playing hard, and if you can screw up a few playoff chases in the process, all the better. On an individual basis, I'd like to see Lucroy show some patience at the plate. His walk numbers in the majors so far haven't lived up to what we saw in the minors, so maybe he's still just adjusting to major league pitching. I'd also like to see Escobar keep hitting the way he has lately, although I have no idea if this hot streak is sustainable or not. On the pitching end, I'm probably one of the very few that still believes Manny Parra has something if he can find a way to tap into it, so I'd like to see him give the Brewers a reason to keep him.
  4. Wow, I'm surprised that they were able to get such a good return for Edmonds, considering it is a waiver deal and he's 40 years old with two bad achilles tendons. Still, I'm sure he'll be a big help for the Reds, who haven't been getting much from their outfielders. Goodbye and good luck, Diego. It's been a fun few months, even if I couldn't but think of you as a real-life Jack Parkman to start the year.
  5. I can understand wanting to get Axford some work, since he hadn't pitched since Tuesday and has been used very sparingly over the past couple weeks. I do agree that it would've made more sense to let Capuano carry the 7th and 8th, though. The only thing I can think of is that Macha wants to make sure Cappy is able to go multiple innings on days Parra or Narveson starts, just in case, but that's just speculation.
  6. Congrats to Lo on his first big league RBI that inning. Interesting first frame all around, to say the least. Here's to hoping Yo can settle down now.
  7. Yo's first inning: http://www.brooksbaseball.net/pfxVB/cache/location.php-pitchSel=451596&game=gid_2010_08_08_houmlb_milmlb_1&batterX=&innings=yyyyyyyyy&sp_type=1&s_type=.gif Yikes. Almost everything up.
  8. If Macha's going to start giving Hoffman save chances again, I'm not opposed to opportunities like tonight. Three run lead against one of the league's weakest offenses? Sure, why not. It's about as much of a low-leverage save situation as you can get.
  9. They had major technical issues during the pregame...I'm guessing something's wrong with the HD feed, because we could only listen to most of Brewers Live. Sort of a bummer of an inning for Woof. He deserved 7 shutout innings, but Edmonds just couldn't get to that ball in no man's land on time with the bum achilles.
  10. With Yo going tomorrow, it'd be pretty big to get another W tonight. Hopefully we see more good AB's like we saw last night during the 9th.
  11. Callis with another tweet, this time saying Pierce has signed. Guess the Brewers made it worth his while to skip college for now: This leaves Covey as the only one of the Brewers' top 12 picks to not sign yet.
  12. I'll go ahead and say that funky carom off the side wall makes up for Jason Michaels' pop fly grand slam into the Crawford Boxes last weekend. Great approaches at the plate by everyone in the 9th. Would've been easy for Rickie to swing for the fences after seeing Inglett get it within one, but instead he takes the hanging breaking pitch and dumps it into left to get on base. Hart doesn't try for another walkoff homer and draws a walk, and Prince just focused on making good contact. Awesome all around.
  13. A lot of people seem to think this isn't getting as much media play because of his steroid admission, but honestly, he's getting more publicity than Ken Griffey, Jr. did when he was going for 600, and no one's ever accused him of anything.
  14. Just so we're clear. Hitting Carlos Gomez in consecutive at-bats, the second time in the head: A-ok, no ejections. Grazing a jersey when you don't have good command: Hit the showers. Yeah, that makes sense.
  15. Right, he still needed to execute, but he shouldn't have had to pitch in that situation in the first place.
  16. Well, thanks to Coffey, Parra's line ends up looking a lot worse than it really was. It's a shame, because his stuff looked really good today. The splitter was virtually unhittable.
  17. Ugh, tough break for Parra. Didn't make very good pitches to DeWitt or Baker, but if the ump doesn't blow the call at second base, Parra's out of this inning with a 3-2 lead.
  18. It was the 4th inning, so I don't exactly know why Cubs fans were getting worked up over the Braun bunt single. I wish the game was on WGN, though, so I could've heard Bob Brenly's comments.
  19. An argument could be made that there were varying degrees of intent, but here are some instances of when the Brewers hit an opposing batter after a Brewer was hit, going back to the Atlanta series: July 16th - Fielder hit by Tommy Hanson, Kameron Loe later hits Alex Gonzalez July 17th - Venters incident July 18th - Manny Parra hits Jason Heyward, David Riske hits Troy Glaus July 22nd - Weeks hit by Ross Ohlendorf, Yovani Gallardo hits Delwyn Young the next half inning, Todd Coffey throws behind Jose Tabata on a 3-0 count July 27th - McGehee hit by Edinson Volquez, Todd Coffey hits Jonny Gomes. Granted, sometimes the situation leads us to believe that they weren't intentional (Riske's, IIRC, loaded the bases), but Coffey throwing behind Tabata was pretty blatantly intentional.
  20. I know you were asking someone else, but yes, I think they would. Baseball memory is incredibly short. Just take a look at this debate -- the Brewers have retaliated in recent weeks, and it's already been forgotten.
  21. Loe didn't throw Soriano a single strike in that AB, and still struck him out after falling behind 2-0. Awesome AB, Soriano.
  22. Prince has been on fire this series, with 7 hits already. Really nice AB with the RISP there. Let's keep it going, guys.
  23. Weird...when I type it into Firefox it tries to get me to change it to "unexpectedly" or "expectantly," so it might just be a Firefox thing. I still think it's a poorly-written sentence.
  24. Here's to hoping they didn't use their offense for the series in one night. Nice to see Thomas Diamond finally make it to the majors, though, even if it was eventually with the Cubs.
  25. Another instance of Witrado's writing being less-than-fluid: "A game after being hit in the head with a fastball and having to get a CT scan, CF Carlos Gomez is expectedly missing from tonight's lineup." I don't know how he typed "expectedly" without having his spell check yell at him.
