  2. I agree that manager eruptions don't seem to work all that often. Sure, they look nice and will placate the fans for a few games, but you're just as likely to get an adverse reaction as you are the desired effect. I guess I don't understand what guys like Macha and Castro are supposed to say other than "throw strikes!" -- isn't that what Kendall likely tells Parra & Co. already when he comes out to the mound in the middle of an AB? The Brewers have played a tough schedule so far and as Ennder said, they're far from the only team struggling with walks right now. This team was in the game until Julio imploded. This team is still better than most in the National League...things will get better.
  3. Didn't they change the rules so now there aren't any more rain-shortened games? If Philly were to suddenly get dumped on, they'd just continue this game tomorrow before starting the next one. There's no escaping this one...let's just let McClung finish the game. If he gives up 7 runs, so be it.
  4. This inning is just hilarious, aside from the fact that I'm so frustrated. Get what you can tonight and go get them tomorrow, I guess. At least this isn't how they got eliminated from the NLDS.
  5. The Jorge Julio era has to be over once Hoffman's ready, right? Please?
  6. All the Brewers really need are a few more home runs by Braun and they'll be in the lead. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  7. RIGHT BACK IN IT! Braun's seemingly the only one that's locked in on Moyer. Maybe he can give Hart & Co. some lessons.
  8. Parra out already and we're going to see multiple innings of Jorge Julio. Awesome.
  9. Thankfully it looks like the forecast cleared up over the afternoon. We should be able to get a whole game in, which is great.
  10. Here's to hoping they can tee off on Moyer. Looks like he's struggled early this year -- 4 ER in each of his first two starts, giving up at least 1 HR, and only going 5-6 innings. He's got a WHIP over 1.8. Hopefully if the Brewers can be patient, they can get to him early. I'm just worried about Manny's nibbling coming back to bite him with some 3-run homers.
  11. Listening to Mike Francesa's show out here today, he spent a lot of time talking about the Yankees being unable to sell those seats behind home plate, and how it looks bad for the club. He said he spoke with a Yankees rep and they said that they have 104 of those $2500 seats, and they've sold a little more than 80 for the year. The Yankees are kind of in a bind when it comes to this -- they really (REALLY) want to fill up those seats so it looks better on TV, but they really can't lower those prices in the middle of the season without either severely ticking off the people who did pay those prices for their seats or refunding the difference to all those people (which is a lot of dough, even for the Yanks). About the only thing they can do right now is give those seats to their corporate sponsors and let them use them as they will, but even then you're hoping people show up to those random games against the Royals and Twins in July. Francesa defended the Yankees a bit, saying that they set these prices before the economy totally tanked last September/October, but even then they were marked up quite a bit from where they were at the old park. I'll try to dig up an archive if I can.
  12. That's interesting to hear, but I have a hard time believing that the Reds would be against him throwing a sinking fastball, especially with how Great American Ballpark plays as a bandbox for anything hit in the air. Maybe they had a good reason for it (maybe it just wasn't effective enough at that point to use, or he had spotty success with it like a Ben Sheets change-up), but I'd be all for a guy keeping the ball on the ground if I was working with the Reds. Here is the article in question, for anyone who wants to read it. For as much (deserved) crap TH gets for his blog stuff, he still does a good job with profiles like these.
  13. Does anyone else think this is the funniest thing ever? I love it. Me and the GF had a good laugh at the game about it last night.Prince seems to like sound effects more than actual songs. I thought I remembered him using the siren they use for tornado warnings last year and thinking it was the coolest thing ever.
  14. The weather everywhere in the East has sucked for a couple days now, and is expected to keep sucking. I wouldn't be surprised to see this one delayed, but hopefully they can squeeze it in. Weather.com says that it should be cloudy for most of the afternoon in Philly, but there's a 40% chance of rain starting at about 5 PM ET and they're expecting it to be pretty steady until after midnight on the east coast. Doesn't look very promising. Example #24,567 that every ballpark these days should be built with a retractable roof.
  15. They get mad on OOTP for hitting down in the order now? What version is this? It used to only be if I used a SP out of the bullpen or didnt negotiate a contract extension mid-season. Goes back to OOTP8 or 2007, IIRC. The players have expectations listed under their "Contract and Status" page on their profile, varying from "expects to be on the bench" to "expects to be in top half of lineup". Kind of a cool feature, but annoying when they can't realize that you have a deep lineup and that they're the 5th or 6th best hitter there. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Back to the topic at hand, it's great to see that Gamel is off to such a good start...definitely cools some of the worries I had about his explosion last year being lucky. I can't wait to see him whenever the front office decides he'll be safe from Super 2 status.
  16. Citi Field looks big enough that I'm not too worried about Suppan keeping the ball in the park. Like the game in San Francisco, though, I'm worried about gappers with runners on. Hopefully they've finally figured out Figueroa (heh) and can get to him early. Heading into Philly on a high note would do a lot of good.
  17. 6-12 is coming up, but I'm still having a hard time getting too worked up, and the pitching match-ups may not be as bad as expected. Suppan vs. Figueroa is a winnable game. In the Philly series, the Brewers have Parra vs Blanton (9.00 ERA), Bush against Hamels (11.17 ERA, 2.17 WHIP to start the year), and Gallardo vs. Myers. It looks like Houston's going to be throwing Felipe Paulino, Mike Hampton, and Russ Ortiz. If things go well starting on Sunday, the Brewers could be close to .500 by the time they get home again against Pittsburgh. But maybe I'm just overly optimistic.
  18. Looks like I'm going to have to miss this one, which really, really bites. Depending on the outcome, I'll have to check out the archived game on MLB.com. Hopefully the Brewers can hit him as well as they did last April, when he gave up 3 home runs and 5 runs.
  19. The weather is absolutely beautiful today and tomorrow...hopefully the Brewers can get the balls flying out of the park (while keeping a pretty powerful Mets lineup in the park). Interestingly enough, all the initial reviews from fans for Citi Field have been horrible -- they think the walls are too deep and high (there's a "mini monster" in left field), the sight lines are supposedly horrible (lots of obstructed view seats), and general moaning about long lines. It's only been a few games, but most people seem to think that it'll take great defense and speed to win at Citi Field.
  20. After seeing the blow-up on highlights, it didn't seem like he did anything to really deserve a suspension. He blew up, sure, but he said his piece and went back to the dugout after a few seconds. If he gets a suspension, it'll be on reputation alone, IMO.
  21. "Fundamentals are just a crutch for the talentless." I've only seen parts of a few episodes, but it looks pretty good as far as mindless comedies with lots of cursing goes. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  22. I don't think you'd get much opposition on that one. I personally think drunk driving should result in an attempted murder charge, but that's probably going a little too far. The only way to get people to change on this, though, is to do something drastic like that.
  23. Haha...we're getting crowd reactions on the mic tonight. I just heard "Come on, make a pitch...it's da pitcher up there!" Nice job by Manny working back to get that strikeout and strand the runner, though. Now let's wake up the bats.
  24. Hopefully Rickie being out of the lineup is just a cautionary thing, but wouldn't be surprised if he missed more than tonight. I was hoping to see some reporting by Haudricourt on it today, but all we get is "well he must be hurting" in his lineup post on JSOnline today. Counsell at the top of the lineup makes me gag a little, but I guess it's better than Kendall leading off. Hopefully Arroyo misplaces a few pitches early and Parra can avoid nibbling too much again tonight.
