  1. All the Braves guys seem really excited. Sure, McCann had the big hit, but it seems like they believe this game is for THEIR home field advantage.
  2. The reason their schedule, and the Cards schedule, is so easy isn't just the Brewers. In the scheme of the NL Central the Brewers are one of the tougher nuts. Third place with 40 wins at the break, and with three teams wishing they were as good as you. Nice. Agree that a playoff run is highly unlikely, but 20 of the next 27 games are against team with worse records than the Brewers. Three of the other 7 are against the Reds. Find a way to pick up a game a week (maybe cut the deficit in half) in that stretch and suddenly you give yourself at least the illusion of a fighting chance. @ATL (4) @PIT (4) WAS (3) CIN (3) @HOU (3) @CHI (3) HOU (3) ARI (4)
  3. The Pirates should use their gift for cheering up the despondent for a greater purpose, like visiting children's hospitals, or just playing Cleveland every day.
  4. Bushie pitched pretty well on Monday, too. Hope it carries over to teh second half. He has had some decent spurts in seasons past. Just don't think he can sustain that kind of performance over the long haul given his complete reliance on having to spot his stuff.
  5. Don't want to cheer for the leader in Milwaukee's division, but I find it impossible to cheer for the Phils.
  6. FYI, Travis Wood of the Reds perfect through 7 against the Phils. Halladay on the other side. 0-0. Funny thing is that dynamic ESPN Gameday odd-machine had the Phils favored to win despite being whitewashed coming into the 8th. Reds now have runner on 3rd with 1 out. Have PIP working with Crew and this game on MLBN.
  7. I agree that fans understand the big numbers being thrown around. I don't know if they fully appreciate exactly what they can/should expect in return for Prince, and particularly the idea that once you've decided to move him that he's ony worth what somebody will give you. If the trade isn't "good enough", people will be upset and that could have repercussions at the gate. The same sort of thing happens all the time at estate auctions or in divorce settlements. Very many people are very sadly disappointed to find out that an item they hold dear isn't going to bring back the value that they place upon it. Worse, this happens even when the value they place on it is largely "correct", but unattainable, due to the circumstances of the sale.
  8. As far as Prince goes all this talk makes a whole lotta sense to many here at bf.net. But we have to remember that the vast, vast majority of the 2.5-3M who have filled the seats in the past seasons are NOT here at bf.net and very, very many of them just don't see things from the perspective that many here do. Unless you make a really big deal for Prince I think you're cutting your own throat at the gate. That is a huge consideration for Mark A, because it has to be. I don't envy the brass this decision.
  9. "The Brewers are just happy they're booing someone else." Tagline potential.
  10. You wouldn't expect too much extra ball here given the pens involved. That said, I'm not doing anything and 15 innings might be one of the few memorable moments from this season. Let's do it!
  11. In addition to the unusual start time on Saturday, the game has also been moved to Halfaer Field.
  12. Barring Casey hitting one out, it's hard to much like the Brewers chances in the 9th, isn't it? I'm tired of being pessimistic, but actually getting a runner on base and then scoring that runner has proved to be an incredibly elusive feat for the Brewers for about a week now.
  13. I know people want to see Macha argue and get all fired up, but even if that play wasn't as close as it was, it's a pretty meaningless play to get all riled up about, isn't it?
  14. Whew. Wathcing the Brewers with the lead was getting disorienting.
  15. I don't knowmuch about what the Rangers have to offer for Prince, so I'll ask what might be a dumb question: Texas may now want Prince, but didn't Seattle just get two of the guys the Brewers would have wanted in trade for Prince? If so, why would they make a good trading partner now? Assuming pitching in return is a must, who else do they have to offer?
  16. It really doesn't matter if Estrada is dogging it or not. The way the episode was handled, regardless of injury, is what rubs the team the wrong way. It seems fairly clear that there was not a full disclosure between player and team. If a guy gets hurt he gets hurt, and teams can usually accept that, but the way the whole thing played out with Estrada stunk from the beginning. I don't think Gerut is dogging it, but he's probably in a funk. Heel injuries can suck. Taking into accoutn the team situation, Gerut's less than optimal situation with a pretty depressing team and a slow rehab and I wouldn't doubt that he's apt to not always be especially chipper. Frustration is probably running rampant in that clubhouse right now and it is probably affecting the way a lot of issues are being handled with the team. I can only imagine how bad this would be if there was a character like Zambrano on this roster.
  17. After the break, Brewers Live is talking Bucks free agents. Not named LeBron James. In July. Nice.
  18. No way the Brewers make that play. Then they give up a two-run homer.
  19. This is the kind of series that would make you wonder who would want to take these players in trade.
  20. Now I know what it would have felt like if I was at home watching the game on Monday.
  21. I think that sums things up pretty well, giffted. There really isn't a very clear path forward. I just don't see the value being there for Prince in terms of an in-season deal. There might be a decent deal out there for Hart in terms of baseball value, but nothing that will really make the general mass of fans say "Wow". I tend to think 1) is the way to go, but only if it is accompanied by a serious internal reappraisal of what that path means beyond the next 2-3 years. This will mean continued unrest in terms of public perception, but that really shouldn't be a huge concern unless it significantly disrupts the revenue stream. I don't think it will in the immediate/short term, but the players will have to come through and generate some excitement out of the gate next season to keep it from becoming a serious issue.
  22. Not really big news on Estrada. That guy has been in the doghouse since he pulled the stunt initially. Gerut probably just tired of being here and I'd be surprised if his is the only attitude that is flagging at the moment.
  23. Thank you sir, may I have another?
  24. And that is 42-43 playing in and against the best division in baseball.
  25. Woo. For the second night in a row this team has scored a baserunner with a batted ball. Maybe tomorrow they'll do it twice. Every journey begins with a single step.
