  1. Nice homer by Alexei Ramirez to tie it up. As long as they don't start calling him sexy Alexei.
  2. Well first I would like to say thanks for stealing Brian Matusz right before my pick. Here I am getting all excited about him being on the board for me to pick and then he's taken the pick before me. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I guess I'll have to "settle" for Jeremy Hellickson.
  3. It's just really annoying to me. Once you get the angle you want to see pitches at you can't touch a thing on there or it will move and you have to reset it to the way you had it before and if you switch to another game you have to completely reset it. I always liked switching in between innings to different games but I'm not doing that anymore. It was just a completely unnecessary switch that overall made the product as a whole worse.
  4. I'm looking at Mauer's hot zones and cold zones right now. It's broken up into 9 sections. low and away he's hitting .286, low and down the middle he's hitting .182, low and inside he's hitting .429, middle inside he's hitting .588, right down the middle he's hitting .536, middle away he's hitting .250, up and inside he's hitting .462, up and down the middle he's hitting .143 and up and outside he's hitting .364. So while they were technically pitching Mauer in a "cold zone", making the same pitch four straight times in the exact same spot isn't a good idea. Especially for a hitter as good as Mauer. It's not like that's his only cold zone either. He doesn't hit great on the middle to low outside stuff or on the low pitch down the middle. And honestly, in a tie game in the 8th inning I'd much rather they pitch him low and away than up and down the middle. Worst that happens if you pitch low and away is likely a bloop double right down the line. Worst that happens if you pitch him up and down the middle, well, you saw it.
  5. That's my point. Better offenses with more patient hitters are going to hit him hard if he keeps doing that.
  6. Our best season in Melvin's tenure has been 83 wins. With that we had two 1.000 OPS players, one player who had nearly a .900 OPS, above average offensive middle infielders, an effective platoon in left field and an okay CF. We also had a slug at catcher but when you have two 1.000 OPS players with a .900 OPS player you have the makings of a great offense. Add the other players around them and the offense was well above average. We then had over 250 innings of ace quality pitching between Sheets and Gallardo. The rest of the staff was poorly assembled (Vargas) or was bitten by our bad defense (which also falls on Melvin as well as the scouts and minor league instructors for thinking players could play the positions they were drafted as, like Braun at third base.) He and Yost also decided to go with a Counsell/Graffanino platoon which severely weakened the offense for nearly two months. We had Gabe Gross on the bench while either Graffanino or Counsell were playing everyday. Hall could've played third in that time and Braun could've been learning the outfield down in the minors. The bullpen was terrible. Greg Aquino, Jose Capellan, Chris Spurling and Elmer Dessens all spent far too much time on the major league roster. Many times in critical situations by Yost, who Melvin also hired but that's for another thread. In order to get bullpen help he decided to trade one of our best prospects, plus two more prospects for a free agent to be reliever who was on the decline.
  7. Sorry, I'm just not going to give credit to someone because they didn't fire someone who was doing a good job. Isn't that a no brainer decision? Why should he get credit for that? If I get a new job running a business and I'm told from others around the town and from that persons' co-workers that so and so is doing a good job and then I look and see what a good job they're doing I'm obviously not going to fire him/her.
  8. Here's what McClung did tonight. 1st inning: Ahead of Gomez 0-2, groundout Behind Casilla 3-1, homerun Walks Mauer on 5 pitches Ahead of Morneau 0-2, struck him out on 6 pitches 4 pitch walk to Cuddyer Got behind Kubel 3-1, got it to a full count, Kubel grounded out 2nd inning: Got behind 1-0 to Young, came back and struck him out on 3 straight pitches Got ahead of Buscher 0-2, groundout Got ahead of Harris 0-1, groundout 3rd inning: Gomez first pitch bunt single Casilla first pitch bunt single Mauer first pitch flyout to deep center Got behind Morneau 3-1, groundout Got ahead of Cuddyer 1-2, flyout 4th inning: Got behind Kubel 1-0, homerun Got behind Young 3-1, single Got behind Buscher 2-1, got a double play First pitch single for Harris Got ahead of Gomez 0-2, groundout 5th inning: Got ahead of Casilla 0-2, groundout Got ahead of Mauer 0-2, double Got ahead of Morneau 0-1, single Cuddyer got hit by the first pitch Got behind Kubel 2-1, sac fly Got behind Young 2-1, single So that's six batters who got ahead of him by either 3-0 or 3-1 counts and a few more got ahead of him 2-1. He's just not going to have success if he keeps doing that.
  9. I've been turning on Melvin lately. How much credit can we give him for the draft? I honestly have no idea but I can't imagine Melvin does much with the draft. He just lets Jack Z. and his scouts do their thing and pick the players. I don't see how he can get much credit for that. So with all the talented, cheap young players that have been given to Melvin to work with the best his team has achieved is an 83 win season. I really fail to see how that's "good."
  10. I wasn't so concerned about some of the hits tonight but he had horrible control. He fell behind a ton of batters consistently going into 2-1 and 3-1 counts. He's going to get hammered if he keeps doing that.
  11. I was in the kitchen when the homer was hit so I didn't see the pitch call but I did turn around just as Cameron was slowing down and watching it fly out. Ugh. Frustrating. Especially after taking a 6-3 lead.
  12. I could be wrong but I don't think BABIP has anything to do with homeruns. Edit: I should add that I don't think Edmonds is going to keep up this pace but he's still a good hitter, even at this point in his career. It was a good low risk signing by the Cubs that is paying off very well right now.
  13. Ugh Fielder has just been brutal lately. How can you swing at that pitch? Work the count a little.
  14. I'll take a tie right here. Just extend the game, that's what I'm wanting right now.
  15. Yeah Dillon is pretty lost and has been pretty terrible so far this year. I wouldn't mind a Nelson callup. What's overlooked is Dillon's Tony Gwynn Jr.'esque .281 SLG%.
  16. Gardenhire is smart enough to break the lefties in the lineup up to prevent the use of LOOGY's without facing a right handed hitter. Ned decided for a while it was a good idea to hit Branyan right behind Fielder.
  17. He was pretty terrible. Two homeruns given up, a hard hit double to Mauer, falling behind batters constantly. Just an awful game for McClung.
  18. And here comes McClung to blow the lead. Dandy.
  19. Even more pathetic is this is the second time Gomez and Casilla have done it to us. You think we would be aware of it after the first time.
  20. Dillon you idiot! Weeks was there covering, throw to him.
  21. Thanks for the insight Bill. When the Brewers hit homeruns, they're going to score a lot of runs.
