Interesting 'sabermetric' article about the NBA's Shane Battier

Michael Lewis (author of Moneyball) wrote a piece in the New York Times about the Houston Rockets' Shane Battier and what makes him so valuable despite the fact he doesn't get the 'glamour' stats of other NBA stars. Interesting read for stat heads:

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

I don't have much to comment other than this is a very interesting article. It kind of makes me want to watch some NBA, which is very odd.

Very interesting. Seems that application of some sort of saber-metrics to basketball is/will be much more of a challenge then baseball.

A very entertaining read by Michael Lewis. Maybe as more teams use some of these newly developed statistics, the number of fouls commited will be reduced, making the game more fluid.
