Paging the Elias Sports Bureau: Prince Fielder

Posted

I was curious if anyone would have access to answer this question.

If Prince got to 40 home runs this year, he would have had HR totals in the 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s in his first 4 full season. Has this ever been done before?

Depends on your definition of a full season. Hank Greenberg hit 26 in '34, 36 in '35, 40 in '37, and 58 in '38. But he played in 117 games as a rookie in '33 and only hit 12.

Also, Willie Mays hit 20 in '51, 41 in '54, 51 in '55 and 36 in '56.

But again, not in consecutive seasons.
