Guess that's not a terrible surprise...As sad as it is to say, Vargas will be a welcome addition to the rotation at this point. I can't believe I just said that, I feel so dirty.

I think I'd make a wager that he'll see some time in the rotation. Who knows at this point, though.

Initially I read somewhere (probably here) that Iribarren was the other call up.

That made it 25, Vargas to the major leagues for a minor leaguer means somebody had to go.

I thought Dillard would have done a better job, but he was bad for the most part in a small sample. Vargas should be an upgrade, but I'm not sure that is saying a lot.

OK, so here's what I don't understand (maybe I'm missing something). Villanueva starts tommorow, and likely will go only 4-5 innings at best, and then who picks up the rest of the innings? Our already used up bullpen? I thought that was part of the appeal of Dillard, that he was stretched out and could go multiple innings when (not if, when) needed... Personally I would have sent Swindle back.

 

We currently have nobody on the MLB roster who can go long relief, do we?

Im guessing that Smith and Vargas are going to throw no matter what.
