Brewers Working on a Deal for Shannon Stewart?

On Tuesday, Melvin shot down an Internet rumor that the Brewers were negotiating with free-agent outfielder Shannon Stewart.

That was by far my favorite part of the article about Counsell.

Brewers GM Doug Melvin said there's no truth to the rumor than he was negotiating with free agent Shannon Stewart.

Stewart hasn't received much interest so far, as there are serious questions about his ability to play the field after his trouble last year with plantas fasciitis. He'd make sense in Baltimore, as he and Jay Gibbons could possibly split time between left field and DH. The Mariners and Rangers could also consider him.

Whew.

The Brewers need to weed out their own outfielders before they start bringing in injured guys that aren't a bit better than what they already have, just different.

Other than Kenny Lofton, I haven't been much interested in any outfielder rumored to be associated with the Brewers. I seriously think a Braun/Hall/Hart outfield might make more sense than some of these proposals.

He'd make sense in Baltimore,

They're thinking of Scott Stewart the relief pitcher, aren't they? Though I guess 'make sense' means something different in Baltimore than it does in most of the rest of MLB.
