It sounds like GB played a perfect game for them. I am really impressed (or disappointed I guess) that UW could give up over 80 points to GB, yet hold Duke under 70. Basketball can be a strange game......

It was a good win for UW. Marquette has injuries and a serious lack of an inside presence, but they seem to be like that every year. Despite that, Marquette will get some big wins this year on the nights that the shots fall.

I may be the only person in Wisconsin who attended both the Wisconsin-Marquette women's game Friday night and the men's game Saturday.

 

Earily similar, both Marquette teams have no inside presence, relying on the high screen to drive the lane.

I thought Bucky looked pretty weak inside, personally. It was discouraging, because I hadn't felt that way about their performance down low so far this season (though I do think it's pretty obvious that Ryan doesn't have much quality depth there).

 

MU should easily be in the middle of the Big East pack this year, and with such a good recruiting class for next year, will probably be the best team in WI then.

 

Leuer, Hughes, Taylor all look great!

 

I love Leuer's offensive game, but his D is frustrating. Imo he's still pretty much a tweener in terms of body type (but let me emphasize that I *love* what he can do in terms of scoring). I think he needs to work on getting either quicker or stronger. Given his style of play, I think getting quicker would be a better move (since it'd help on D as well), but getting stronger is probably more realistic. Taylor had a good game, and I still think Hughes is one of the best all-around Gs/PGs in the country. This UW team is capable of making a really deep run this March, as long as they don't face a team with a legit post threat (or threats) early on.

Marquette's height disadvantage compared to the Badgers was noticeable visually tonight.

While Leuer had a great game, I think Lazar Hayward might have been the best player on the floor. Some of the plays he made both offensively and defensively, while consistently guarding and being guarded by bigger players, were pretty impressive. He's more of a SF but is forced to play PF because of Marquette's lack of height; as a SF he might have a shot at making the NBA. He certainly can hold his own against bigger players.

 

Marquette has some talent coming in, but they will be really lean on experience next year and will have no proven scorers. Not to mention as of now no height coming in either.

For those complaining about he refs....UW almost ALWAYS has a better free throw differential than their opponents since Bo got to Madison. It's not luck - it's by design.

 

I will say that Maymon looks like he could be Dejuan Blair in a few years.

Absolutely. It's a shame that his last year is probably going to be lost to some degree in a rebuilding year for the program.

That is of course he is still in school then. Going off what I know about him, he would have fit in perfectly to FSU(see the Outside the Lines this weekend).
