Car Repair shop --Stallis/Tosa area

Hey all, looks like I need to have my car checked out. Usually I go to a guy I know in Madison, but since it's my brakes, I really don't want to drive all the way to Madison to have it looked at.

Wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a place to get my car checked out in the Stallis/Tosa area.... it's a '96 Corolla if that makes any difference.

Thanks for any help!

Baldkin - I recently had to have my brakes replaced. To make a long story short, I took my vehicle to a dealership and 2 different shops and they all said different parts (rotors, pads, drums) needed to be replaced. Because two of the places were obviously lying I decided to fix the brakes myself even though I know very little about cars. After doing a little bit of poking around online I found step by step instructions for replacing my brakes. It was really easy, and I ended up saving $700 and own a few tools now.

I'd also recommend doing whatever you can yourself. If you don't find what you're looking for online, you probably know people who can help you.

On my vehicle, I recently replaced the struts, the alternator, the belt tensioner, brakes, and muffler. I only had to pay for the parts, and my in-laws were more than willing to help me out/teach me what I needed to know. Now, if something breaks, I have more confidence to be able to do the work myself. And, you'll save a crapload of cash.

Thanks for the advice guys. If it's something major, I plan to get it done myself, I'm hoping it's just a hose/connection issue. The place near me gives free estimates and got good reviews on google, so I figured I'd take it in there and have them check it out.

When I lived in Tosa I used to go to Felsing's on 92nd and Burleigh by Mount Mary College. Fair, honest, and they do good work.

I had great work done at Allis car care on about 60th and Lincoln. I had to get something in my starter fixed, and they didn't even charge me. The guy that fixed it was a buddy of the owner who helps out from time to time to get out of the house. I have used them a few times and it has always been a good experience. If you check it out be careful because there is a Midas or Car X that also uses a name very close to this one a block down the road. The one that I am referring to had a handyman on the sign.

Buy a Haynes/Chilton manual for your car. They'll help you with plenty of repairs. DO NOT take your car to Midas, or most places that run specials on pads and rotor turning, as they're scammers who'll tell you that you need a ton of unnecessary repairs.
