Seems to me like sheer idiocy to pull such a thing with all those people lining the road.

 

SELMER, Tennessee (AP) -- Three more people have died after a drag-racing car went out of control and careened into a crowd of spectators, raising the death toll to seven, state officials said Sunday.

 

The crash occurred Saturday night during an "exhibition burnout" -- when a driver spins his tires to make them heat up and smoke -- at the Cars for Kids charity event in Selmer, located about 80 miles east of Memphis...

That's a real shame. I wonder what that charity does? Whatever it is, that will put a damper on their reputation.

i dont understand this at all.under no circumstances would any auto racing santioning body (outside of the world rally championship) allow this to happen...so why the heck did these people think this was a good idea?

My defining image of drag-racing is when they lose control of the car during a race. I can't image what the organizers were thinking...and just as bad, I can't image how the spectators could have not detected that "this was a bad idea." How horrifying.
