Minor League Transaction Thread

MiLB.com's Southern League Transactions Page indicates INF Matt Cline has been suspended; he had been ejected (along with RHP Tyler Thornburg and UT Juan Sanchez) from the brawl game in Mobile earlier this week.

No word on the length of suspension. While it seems Juan Sanchez might have avoided suspension for now, it's possible his may kick in after Cline's expires. But for now, we'll assume it's Cline only.

It's been a miserable 2012 for the 26-year-old Cline (.410 OPS).

From Brevard:

OF Miguel Velazquez has been activated from the disabled list. He will be active tonight against Daytona.

Manatees' roster back to the 25-man active limit.

(Jimmy Nelson's actual move off the Brevard roster isn't official until Wednesday, so expect more activity then.)

2011 36th round RHP Mitch Conner out of Elon (NC) University just tweeted that he's scheduled for Tommy John surgery next week, he had yet to pitch with any of the full-season teams this season.

Here's wishing him well...

At Wisconsin, catcher Tyler Roberts was acticated off the seven-day DL, while IF (occasional utility OF) Adrian Williams was assigned to Helena.

Wonder if Williams is still physically with the Rattlers; he's been on the team all season, bummer for him if he had to depart prior to any division-clinching celebration.

To make room for Jimmy Nelson in Huntsville, the Stars placed RHP Evan Anundsen on the 7-day DL, retroactive to 6/11. Hopefully everything's going to be fine with Evan, who was hit hard (a rare event this year) in his most recent outing.

The Manatees are playing one man down, at 24, until a subsequent move is made to backfill Nelson's spot.

The Brewers finalized plans for three injured players ready to start rehabilitation assignments with Triple-A Nashville. Shortstop Cesar Izturis (left hamstring) will begin playing for the Sounds on Friday and first baseman Travis Ishikawa (left rib cage) will follow on Saturday.

Right-hander Marco Estrada (right quadriceps) will start Saturday for the Sounds, the first of two outings before the Brewers decide whether to reinstate him to the starting rotation.

Jake Odorizzi is scheduled to face the Sounds Sunday. If Brian Baker backs up Estrada's start, then we're likely looking at Wily Peralta vs. Odorizzi.

Via Mark McCarter of the Huntsville Times:

The Stars are playing a bit shorthanded and dealing with injuries. Matt Cline has completed the last of a three-game league-mandated suspension. Thornburg and infielder Juan Sanchez begin three-game suspensions today; Thornburg will miss a start and not pitch until next Tuesday's Southern League All-Star Game.

"Other teams have injuries," Manager Darnell Coles said of his team's current eight-game losing streak. "Other teams are shorthanded. The nine guys we have on the field have to find a way to play together and execute the gameplan."

who would have thought that Izturis/Ishikawa's return would be a welcoming sight for the brewers bench???

From the Rattlers:

LHP Will West has been transferred to Helena. IF Carlos George has been activated off the DL

West, still a teenager, acquitted himself well. We'll probably see him in Wisconsin again later this summer.

The Brewers have signed 22-year-old (3/21/1990) RHP Rodolfo Fernandez, a pitcher from San Cristobal, Cuba, who last pitched for the Industriales squad within the Cuban national baseball system.

Fernandez is currently in workouts in Montana with the Helena club from where he is expected to be on the Opening Day H-Crew roster.

He's listed at 6'2", 220 (nice).

Other than that, little seems available.

In addition to what the J-S guys and MLB.com might learn eventually, we'll send Amber Kuehn a note at the Helena Independent Record. She does a fantastic job with their beat coverage and should be able to feature Fernandez and provide us details on his refuge story and eventual signing.

Brewers released list of additional draft pick signings, and included team assignments (supplemental first round OF Mitch Haniger is debuting at Wisconsin).

A few players aren't listed at the link above because physicals are still pending -- in our formal Draft Pick Signing Thread / Post, we have also included 11th round RHP Preston Gainey out of Navy, 14th round RHP Ryan Gibbard, 22nd round LHP Taylor Wall, and 32nd round RHP Nick Anderson, based on recent player tweets or newspaper accounts.

Haniger heading to WI would seem to suggest that Reed is either ticketed to remain at BC or head to Helena.

Even if McMahan would get promoted you still have Dishon, Stang, Walla, and Haniger in WI and personally I'm not ready to give up on any of those guys yet, how would they find ABs for a 5th OF?

Edit. Though I guess if Rogers and Hopkins get promoted that opens up the DH slot and Walla did play a little 1B a couple of games ago so it could be done. This Reed situation is intriguing.

The Brewers supplemented their Dominican Summer League squad with two players who had been released by other organizations prior to this season -- 3B Jose Dicent (Diamondbacks system, 2009-2010, idle in 2011) and catcher Yunior De La Cruz (Indians 2011).

The Brewers have another Dicent from Santo Domingo in their system (RHP Joel, who we'll probably see on next week's Maryvale roster). Jose is 11 months older, so they could very well be brothers, as that is not a common last name in the annals of Domincan baseball, via Baseball Reference.

As per MiLB.com, 23rd round catcher Paul Eshleman out of Cal State San Bernardino has signed and been assigned to Helena. He was not included in the list of players in the club's press release Friday.

According to MiLB.com, 31st round LHP Brent Suter out of Harvard is an addition to the Helena staff, not the Maryvale staff.

Also, 28th round RHP Martin Viramontes out of USC has signed, and has been assigned to Helena as well.

Let the 2nd half promotions and moves begin -- as per a tweet from Timber Rattlers hurler Mark Williams, two of his teammates, closer Seth Harvey and 1B/LF/DH Jason Rogers, have earned their promotions to Brevard County. Congrats.

The Manatees roster was already one under the limit, so look for one Brevard move to make room on Thursday.
